Louisville voters could see seven local ballot measures this November, including a potential extension of a historic preservation tax and several amendments to the city’s charter. City Council members are scheduled to decide later this month whether to send the items to voters.
In mid-June, the Louisville City Council directed city staff to draft ballot language for the proposed tax extension and six charter amendments. (A city’s charter is essentially a constitution at the local level.)
The council also opted not to move forward with a ballot item that would have asked voters to increase the city’s lodging tax on hotel stays.
Louisville voters could be asked for a third time to approve the city’s 0.125% historic preservation sales and use tax, which funds preservation incentives for landmarked properties and the city’s historical museum.
Louisville has implemented part of the tax policy in recent years by providing incentives to enter into the city’s landmarking program “because that most clearly meets what we think was the intent was, that we want to use this money to preserve the property,” Rob Zuccaro, Louisville’s community development director, said in a June council meeting.
Voters first approved the tax in 2008, according to city information. In 2017, they extended the tax and expanded its uses to dedicate 20% of its revenue to the Louisville Historical Museum campus. The current tax expires Dec. 31, 2028.
A task force formed in May recommended that the council put forth a ballot measure to extend the tax for another 10 years, while increasing the museum’s share of the revenue to at least 30%.
That task force includes Mayor Chris Leh, Councilmember Deborah Fahey, representatives from the Historic Preservation Commission and Louisville Historical Museum Advisory Board, a local architect, a Chamber of Commerce representative and three community members, according to a June council meeting presentation.
Zuccaro said the tax currently generates about $1 million annually, with roughly $800,000 going toward the historic preservation incentive fund and about $200,000 supporting the museum.
If the museum’s allocation increases to 30%, roughly $700,000 would continue flowing to the historic preservation fund while about $300,000 would go to the museum, Zuccaro said. The task force was divided between recommending a 30% or 40% allocation, a number that would be finalized if the council agrees on ballot language to send to voters.
The council also directed city staff to bring forward ballot language for six proposed charter amendments.
A staff document says amendments to the city’s charter should be presented as ballot questions that “address single subjects, even if the ballot question would affect multiple sections of the Charter.”
One proposed measure could increase the number of signatures required for citizen initiatives and raise the threshold for referendums.
Another amendment could move the swearing-in of newly elected council members to after election results are certified, replacing the current city policy that officials take office at the first regular council meeting after the election.
Staff was also expected to draft ballot measure language to create a formal review-and-comment process that would allow initiative sponsors to meet with the city attorney and staff before submitting petitions, with the goal of reducing drafting errors that can delay approval of ballot measures.
Additional proposals would allow council meetings to be held in other accessible locations, align executive session authorized topics with the state and change charter language by replacing terms such as “citizen” with “resident” and “he/she” with “they.”

"There is a certain factor that comes into the game when you're playing top-notch players," Ivey said. "They're not just talent; they're very production-based. I mean those guys put up points, they put up numbers, they put up yards, and they're going to be difficult to slow down and definitely difficult to stop. If you can do that, it'll certainly say something for what the young men that have been working very hard here are capable of doing, and then what our staff has worked very hard to try to put them in position to be able to make those plays.

Executing that game plan against such a potent offense requires seamless communication throughout the entire defensive staff. When it comes time to deploy those strategies on game day, Ivey prefers a boots-on-the-ground approach to manage the unit.
"I'm planning on being on the football field," Ivey confirmed on Monday. "That's just kind of my second nature, my mentality. I like being around everybody and that's where we've worked at. I've taken some reps in the box to look at it - it could be something down the road, you never know.
"Our staff is incredible. I just walked out of the room five minutes ago and it is all input based and everybody's doing it together. Everybody puts in ideas and at the end of the day we still run it by coach and then we go out there and do what we do. It is 100% about giving the players their best opportunity."
That opportunity begins on Sunday night against No. 9 Ole Miss. Kickoff against the Rebels at Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee is set for 7:30 p.m.

LOUISVILLE, Colo., August 18, 2026 — Infleqtion (NYSE: INFQ), a global leader in quantum computing and quantum sensing powered by neutral-atom technology, is celebrating the grand opening of the Colorado Quantum Innovation Center (CQIC), its new facility in Louisville, Colorado at 1315 W. Century Drive. The grand opening coincides with growing recognition of the Boulder–Louisville–Broomfield corridor as “America’s Quantum Peak,” recognizing the region’s concentration of quantum research, talent, and industry.

The Colorado Quantum Innovation Center will serve as Infleqtion’s global headquarters and anchor facility in the region, supporting the company’s work across quantum computing and quantum sensing, including deployments with the U.S. Department of War, NASA, and the UK Royal Navy. The opening reflects the broader shift underway in the quantum industry, from scientific discovery toward industrial deployment at scale.
