Loveland Ward 2 City Council candidate Sarah Rothberg is leading incumbent Dana Foley in early 2025 election results.
After the second round of election results were released around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, Rothberg had received nearly 50.8% of votes and Foley had received 49.2%, according to the Larimer County Clerk’s election data. Her vote share dipped slightly to 50.7% in the third release of results at 11 p.m.
Though still unofficial, Rothberg said on Wednesday that she was excited about the results and ready to start fulfilling the pledges she made on the campaign trail.
“I’m really looking forward to getting to work on the things that people put me in office for — getting more affordable housing in our community and working to address homelessness,” she said.
In October, she told the Reporter-Herald that the city’s response to homelessness needs “direction and intentionality.” She added that she also wants to give voters control over a portion of the city’s budget through a process called “participatory budgeting,” and idea that got a lot of traction during her campaign, she said on Wednesday.
“I think there’s a lot of interest from people, from neighbors, that they want to get more involved in city government and want to learn and see how things work and get to make more decisions,” she said.
Rothberg is one of four newcomers poised to join Loveland City Council later this month, joining Goeff Frahm in Ward 1, Caitlin Wyrick and Kalina Middleton in Ward 3 and Zeke Cortez in Ward 4. She will also serve as part of the six-member female majority, a first in Loveland’s history.
“I think voters wanted to see a change,” Rothberg said. “They want to see what bringing in new perspectives can lead to, and I’m hoping we can work on rebuilding trust with the community.”
