Home Care Denton, TX

They say that your golden years are the best years of your life. For most older Americans, that's how it should be - a time to relax, reflect, and live life in a familiar place. After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

However, as seniors grow older, completing daily tasks like showering and enjoying activities such as visiting the historic BaylessSelby House Museum gets harder without someone by their side. Unfortunately, many older Americans aren't able to rely on their adult children for help. The reality in today's world is that family members do not have the skills or time to dedicate to caring for their parents. That's where Always Best Care Senior Services comes in.

Our in-home care services are for people who prefer to stay at home as they grow older but need ongoing care that family or friends cannot provide. More and more older adults prefer to live far away from long-term, institutionalized facilities and closer to the place where they feel most comfortable - their home. Home care in Denton, TX is a safe, effective way to give your loved ones the care they need when they need it the most.

What is Non-Medical Senior Care in Denton, TX?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local Hannah's or visit Historic Downtown Denton, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Denton, TX, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your TX's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Denton, TX understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care Denton, TX

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
 Caregivers Denton, TX

At Always Best Care, our representatives can match your senior's emotional, physical, and financial needs with viable assisted living communities nearby. Results are based on comparative data, so you can select the best choice for you or your loved one.

Always Best Care works closely with local senior living communities to gain valuable knowledge that we then use to help seniors and their loved ones make informed decisions. This information can include basic care and rent, resident availability, and services provided. Because Always Best Care is compensated by these communities, we provide senior living referral services at no extra cost to you.

Some of the most popular assisted living communities to consider in our area include the following:

  • Mayberry Gardens Assisted Living and Memory Care Homes
  • Fairhaven Denton Assisted Living
  • Carriage House Assisted Living of Denton
  • Sage Oak of Denton
  • Willow Bend Assisted Living Memory Care
  • Brookdale Denton North

For many seniors, moving into a senior living community revolves around how and when they want to make a transition to more involved care. The retailer's new Denton, Texas, store offers more space for merchandise and additional room for same-day fulfillment services

The Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex continues to be a hotbed of retail development, and Target is the latest chain to expand its presence in North Texas.

Recently, the Minneapolis-based mass merchant opened a 147,000-square-foot store in Denton. The location, according to Target, is one of the retailer’s largest new builds and offers a glimpse into the company’s future as it focuses on large-format stores. The added space accommodates larger-than-average sections for fresh and frozen foods and beverages, highlighted by organic product options, a bakery and deli.

Beyond consumables, the additional square footage at the Denton North store also provides room for an Apple at Target shop-in-shop, a Starbucks café, and a large assortment of school supplies and sports apparel for local students.

More space has also been allocated for backroom fulfillment, which is about five times larger than older Target locations of similar size. This will support digital orders and the retailer’s Drive Up and Order Pickup services.

The Denton North store is an example of Target’s new strategy in the Lone Star State. Two additional locations are slated to open this year, with at least five more planned for the Dallas metro area in the coming years. Companywide, Target plans to open 300 new stores similar to the new Denton store in the years ahead.

Target’s strategy to open larger stores, in the range of 150,000 square feet, was launched in late 2022. The goal is to improve support for same-day services while allowing for a larger product assortment across store departments. The newer locations also feature increased lighting, natural elements, localized design features, and built-in sustainability.

Target is not alone in its desire to expand across the Dallas metropolitan area. Earlier this year, Kroger acquired land in Little Elm, Texas, about 20 miles east of Denton. The site, located at US-380 and FM-2931, will place the grocer’s new store adjacent to the yet-to-be-constructed, 225,000-square-foot Target-anchored Bates Towne Crossing.

Additionally, San Antonio, Texas-based H-E-B also continues to expand across its home state, with the Dallas region a target for new store development.

In each community where Target opens a new store, we're adding a chapter of growth — like in Denton, Texas.

Of course, Denton already had high growth potential. The town is home to two colleges — the University of North Texas and Texas Woman’s University — and to rapid development, with new highways, businesses and homes rising alongside its ranches and cattle pastures.

“It’s a little town that doesn’t realize it’s become a big town because it’s still friendly,” says Rick S., property management lead for Denton North (T-2917), which opened this past April, making it Target’s second store in the community.

Rick started with Target as a cart attendant nearly 20 years ago, returned as a college student and eventually found a life-long career at the Bullseye. “We still have that same vibe from when I first moved up here with the ranchers coming into town and the students,” he says. “And it's still that way, but on a huge scale now.”

As Target tracks to open more than 300 new stores like Denton North over the next decade, we’re adding to a story of growth for our business and to each of our communities, providing good jobs and the opportunity to work with great people, and bringing the magic of Target to more consumers.

It’s about showing up — for our newest team members, guests and neighborhoods.

“There’s a lot of pride that I have behind this grand opening and a chance for Target to make another positive impact on this community, on a lot of people,” says Store Director LaShon H., who oversaw Denton North’s opening and has led our stores in Plano and Dallas. “It’s not just a new Target store. It’s a destination.”

LaShon helped hire Denton North’s more than 200 team members, many of them locals and college students looking for a part-time job that fits their needs or a place to build a career. As a leader, one of the biggest compliments she gets is when team members show up with pride, ready to work. And she sees her own role in making this happen.

I call myself Coach LaShon here. We are like a football team when we are going through this journey. But a coach can’t be successful if their team doesn't show up, want to play for them, see the vision and then execute.

What’s even a bigger win? When one of those team members is inspired to take the lead, too.

“When I started with Target 18 years ago, I honestly didn't see a career,” says Mitch E., an executive team lead who started his Target career at our first Denton store. “But after I spent a couple of years as a team member, I had aspirations of wanting to be a leader. I had an executive team lead that I looked up to a lot and so I saw where I wanted to go and started thinking about a career with Target, not just a job to get me by.”

From there, he rose up the ranks to logistics, senior and then executive team leads for general merchandise and food. Now Mitch’s favorite part of his job? Getting to mentor, teach, train and develop aspiring leaders, too.

At about 147,000 square feet, Denton North is one of our biggest new builds — and an example of what’s to come as we focus on large-format stores. With that extra space, it can accommodate a bigger-than-average fresh and frozen food and beverage section, including organic produce options, bakery and deli. Helping to keep the store in stock: our Dallas sortation center and Denton food and beverage supply chain facility, which serves our 158 stores in Texas.

From assortment to reliability, it’s a true differentiator.

“We can show up for guests for all their grocery needs where they don't have to look at a competitor,” says LaShon. “We can be their one and only, from fresh produce to amazingly priced meats. Everything is affordable and then joy can be given when you walk through the departments in our store. [It has guests saying] ‘This is bright, this is big. I’m glad you’re on this side of town.’”

More square footage also means room for an Apple at Target shop-in-shop, Starbucks Cafe, and large assortment of school supplies and sports apparel for local students. It also provides more room for a backroom fulfillment space that’s about five times larger than our older stores of a similar size, to support guests’ digital orders and our convenient Drive Up and Order Pickup same-day services.

In every community where we open a store, Target makes a commitment to serve and strengthen it. In 2024 in Texas, where we have nearly 160 stores, this amounted to more than $29.3 million in product and cash donations. And in the Dallas Fort Worth area, where Denton is located, Target provided:

That support doesn’t just come from the corporate level. It’s also powered by team members like LaShon, who are committed to treating everyone in the community as a Target guest. “I pride myself on doing that with everybody, whether it’s my leadership, a team member or a stranger in the parking lot,” she says.

This community support also comes through at our grand openings. At Denton North, this included appearances by the Dallas Mavericks dance team and our very own Bullseye mascot. Guests also had a chance to sign a community board and answer the question: What does Denton North mean to me and how can Target show up for this community?

I look forward to hearing and seeing those messages so I can deliver on what they want and need.

Denton North is the latest example of Target’s new store strategy in Texas, with two more locations slated to open later this year, and at least five more planned for the Dallas metro area over the next couple of years. Even better: This combination of newness and affordable choices, rewarding jobs and community commitment is rolling out to about 20 stores nationwide in 2025, with many more to come in the decade ahead.

DENTON, Texas — Every day, dozens of dogs at the City of Denton Animal Shelter wait for a new home. On Tuesday, one of them finally got his second chance — thanks to a familiar face.

Floyd, a 70-pound dog, was adopted by Ian Burke, a Denton mail carrier who had known the dog for years.

"I'm taking this guy home with me," Burke said after finalizing the adoption. "I don’t take it lightly, [this isn't] some random dog I’m adopting."

Their connection goes back three years. Burke met Floyd while delivering mail to his then-owner, an elderly wheelchair-bound Vietnam veteran, he said.

"This is a dog that was loved and cherished by a former customer of mine," Burke said, remembering the first time he met Floyd delivering mail. "He got out the door and he charged at me, right like a little puppy.”

Burke told WFAA he enjoyed stopping by their house each week.

“[Floyd's owner] checked his mail, which I liked,” Burke said with a smile, remembering the man fondly.

But about a year and a half ago, Burke's route changed, and he no longer saw Floyd or his owner. Then, last Saturday, the mail carrier who took over Burke’s route told him the man had passed away, and that Floyd was now at the city shelter.

Burke didn’t hesitate.

“I went down to the shelter at about 10 a.m. when they opened. I got there at 9:50 a.m. to make sure I was first in line,” he said.

He was.

And he left the shelter with Floyd.

"I kind of feel responsible to take care of him,” Burke said. “I think [his former owner] would be pleased to know his former mailman is taking good care of his dog."

Burke hopes Floyd’s story inspires others to consider adopting.

“Probably one of the best things the postal service inadvertently issued me,” he said with a smile.

Ranchman’s Ponder Steakhouse, a 75-year Denton County landmark and once among America’s most famous small-town cafes, has been sold to Denton County restaurateur Marty Bryan and will reopen as part of the Marty B’s empire. owner Dave Ross said.

The little back-road restaurant at 110 W. Bailey St., Ponder, has been closed nearly two years since Ross retired.

In its heyday, Ranchman’s was known for 32-ounce T-bones, chicken-fried steaks, burgers, pies and cobblers. It hosted celebrities from sports, TV and movies, including actors Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway during the making of the 1967 movie “Bonnie and Clyde.”

It was also where iconic Texas author Larry McMurtry was inspired to name his bestselling novel “Lonesome Dove.”

According ro Ross, Bryan hopes to expand and convert the West Bailey Street property to a larger complex including a bar, concert space and coffee shop.

His Marty B’s Is a larger steakhouse, Tex-Mex and barbecue restaurant and entertainment complex ay 2664 Farm Road 407 in Bartonville, with spinoff restaurants in Argyle and Flower Mound.

Bryan could not be reached.

Ranahman’s remodeled during the COVID pandemic, adding a new kitchen but keeping the same orignal oak-paneled dining room, a throwback to 1951.

Shortly before Ross retired, Ranchman’s was featured on an episode of “The Texas Bucket List” TV show for its contest-winning chicken-fried steaks.

The restaurant also has been featured on the Food Network national TV shows such as “FoodNation with Bobby Flay.”

Ross was the steakhouse’s second long-term owner. It was founded by Grace “Pete” Jackson and her husband, R.L., in the late 1940s and became a gathering place for the county and a stopover for motorists taking a shortcut to Ponder, then a dwindling Denton County farm town 30 miles north of Fort Worth.

Ranchman’s was originally known for T-bones and rib-eyes cut in-house. But ever since the Food Network came to town, Ranchman’s has been better known for chicken-fried steaks and burgers. The pies and cobblers were still made from 30-year cook Evelyn “Granny” Stack’s recipes.

Ranchman’s was never more small-town than on one busy Friday night in the 1970s, when an overwhelmed Stack strode into the middle of the dining room and waved her spatula until she commanded attention.

“Y’all!” she shouted. “Can’t y’all see I’m gonna have to have some help?”

Customers started pouring tea, clearing tables or baking rolls.

McMurtry, the quintessential Texas novelist, said that Ranchman’s was his favorite restaurant and that he would often make the 100-mile drive from his home in Archer City near Wichita Falls.

McMurtry told how he had just left the cafe in the early 1980s when he saw an old church bus marked “Lonesome Dove Baptist Church.”

“If ever I had an epiphany it was at that moment: I had, at last, found a title for the trail driving book” he was writing.

“Lonesome Dove” went on to win a Pulitzer Prize and was made into a TV classic.

That was 20 years after Beatty, Dunaway and other actors visited during the Denton-area filming of the movie “Bonnie and Clyde.”

Their photos still hang on the dining room wall, along with those of sports stars, racing drivers and other celebrities who found their way to Ponder.

Until the 1980s, Ranchman’s didn’t even have indoor restrooms — only an outhouse. But “what’s important about this place is the unique sense of community it brings,” Ross said.

“People at different tables talk to each other. People from across the country come here and say, ‘This feels like home.’ “
