It earned the Halloween Capital designation earlier this summer in recognition of the month-long spooky season celebration held last year that kicked off a new tradition: Denton Halloween. According to the city, the 2024 celebration drew more than 660,000 visitors from around the world. Decorations took over the iconic Denton Square, and a plethora of seasonal events were thrown all over the city.
This year, a spokesperson for the City of Denton told MySA in an email that the city is gearing up for more than 200 Halloween-themed events throughout October, including some returning favorites from last year, like coffin races, scary stories and decor pop-ups. New to the second annual Denton Halloween is a haunted maze, a big top tent with a variety of shows, a pedal pub and other immersive experiences. Also available is a seasonal food and drink tour of DFW, with stops to be announced Monday, September 1. While in town, visitors can also take a self-guided ghost tour of Denton's many haunted spots.

DENTON, Texas — A North Texas city will soon have two H-E-B stores.
The popular Texas-based grocery store chain says it plans to start construction on a store in Denton – this one at the northeast corner of University Drive and N. Bonnie Brae Street in the area of the University Village shopping center near the University of North Texas – in the spring of 2026.
Mabrie Jackson, managing director of public affairs for H-E-B and Central Market, said the new location will span 119,000 square feet.
The news comes after H-E-B announced plans in March to open the first Denton store on a more than 20-acre property near the intersection of Interstate 35W and Robson Ranch Road.
“This is a rapidly growing area, and we are excited to introduce this new H-E-B store to Denton and surrounding towns. We look forward to meeting our new neighbors and sharing more details soon," Jackson said in March.
Jackson said the popular Texas-based grocery chain first bought the property at the corner of University Drive and N. Bonnie Brae Street in 2015 and has started the permitting process for the store planned there.
The Denton stores are part of H-E-B's rapid expansion in North Texas. The grocer confirmed this week it bought land near the northwest quadrant of the intersection of FM 1417 and U.S. 75 in Sherman.
H-E-B also announced earlier this month that it closed on 22.8 acres of land on the northeast corner of U.S. 377 and Cross Timbers Road in Flower Mound and plans to start construction this fall on a new store near the Walsh Ranch development in West Fort Worth. No construction date is set for a store in Flower Mound either, according to an H-E-B spokesperson.
H-E-B, which was founded in Kerrville but is now based in San Antonio and celebrated its 120th anniversary this year, has more than 455 stores in Texas and Mexico.

In the High School on SI Texas poll, they are No. 1 and also No. 1 in the Power 25 Rankings. In the Associated Press/Dave Campbell’s Texas Football poll, the Panthers are No. 3 and Guyer is No. 23.
In the computer rankings, Guyer is No. 22 in the state — regardless of class.
This is the fourth meeting between the two teams, dating back to 2004.
The Wildcats won in 2018 and 2019. Last year, the Fort Worth school posted a 49-28 win. North Crowley has won its last 18 games heading into this tilt after winning the Class 6A Division I title last December.
This game will have several Division I commits and some underclassmen who are uncommitted, but are ranked among the best in the state by various websites.
