VA FUNDED In-HOME CARE
The VACCN Homemaker/Home Health Aide & Respite Care is a benefit offered to Veterans who require assistance with activities associated with daily living. Homemakers and Home Health Aides, while not nurses themselves, are trained professionals who can provide support and care to Veterans in their own homes.
They are supervised by an Always Best Care registered nurse who assesses the Veteran's care needs and supervises each individual case.

VA Funded In-Home Care
Taking a holistic care needs approach, the VA can authorize Always Best Care to relieve family caregivers through three different programs:

How To Enroll In
Gaining access to VA senior care requires a three-step enrollment process. Those steps include the following:
First, request an Assessment for Community Care Network (CCN) services from your VA Physician. From there, the VA Physician will conduct an assessment and write an order accordingly (based on eligibility and needs). After that step, request that your VA Physician specifies which VA home care provider you would like to use, such as Always Best Care.
During this step, a Community Care Coordinator from the VA will contact you after the VA Physician writes your order. After making contact, the Community Care Coordinator will inform you of the type of care and quantity of hours per week authorized by the VA.
If you have not selected a specific provider, the Community Care Coordinator will provide options in your area. Once a Community Provider like Always Best Care is selected, the Community Care Coordinator will send the authorization to the selected Community Provider that you request.
Should you choose Always Best Care as your Community Care Provider, a home care claims manager will call you to arrange a care consultation, complete the intake paperwork, and schedule in-home care services. After the care consultation, the Community Care Provider performs a final assessment of your needs.
After the final assessment is complete, a Care Plan is created for you by the Community Provider. The Community Care Provider will arrange for a caregiver to come to your home for the number of authorized hours allowed each week.

The New York Yankees took three of four games against the Boston Red Sox over the weekend. While the Yankees extended their lead for the top wild card spot over the Red Sox, they also saw George Lombard Jr. leave the second game of the Saturday doubleheader with right knee discomfort.
Now, the Yankees are getting an update on the status of Lombard, per Talkin' Yanks.
"Aaron Boone tells us George Lombard Jr. will not be in the lineup tonight, but he ran and took ground balls yesterday. Boone does not anticipate an IL stint, but wouldn't rule it out," the update read.

Lombard has played 23 games so far with the Yankees, hitting .253 with two home runs and six RBIs. Still, he had been struggling as of late. He was hitting just .171 over the last ten days of August, with just one RBI and one extra base hit. He had also been struggling in the field, and now has seven errors on the year already.
Jose Caballero got the start at short on Monday in place of Lombard, going 0-3 with two strikeouts. He is likely to be at short again on Tuesday night with Amed Rosario at third base.
The Yankees are 78-60 on the year, placing them in second place in the AL East. They are 4.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the division. The Yanks still have control of the top wild-card spot in the American League and have an 8.5-game cushion for a playoff spot. They continue their series with the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night.

NEW YORK — New York Yankees shortstop George Lombard Jr. seems likely to avoid going on the injured list despite twisting his right knee and leaving before the fourth inning of Saturday night’s 9-2 win over the Boston Red Sox.
Lombard said an MRI showed there was no structural damage to his knee, though he felt some soreness on Sunday morning.
“It’s good that it’s nothing too serious,” Lombard said.
The Yankees consider Lombard’s availability to be day to day, though he seemed unlikely to play in Sunday’s series finale, manager Aaron Boone said. José Caballero was in the starting lineup at shortstop.
“They don’t seem too concerned about it,” Boone said. “But we’ve got to get the discomfort out of there and the swelling out of there. We’ll see what we have today.”
“It was just kind of one of those weird freak things,” Lombard said.

Lombard said he felt fine walking around Sunday morning.
“It’s definitely better than (Saturday),” he said. “It felt a little stiff, and there’s still a little soreness and a little inflammation in there. But not terrible.”
It was unclear if Lombard would be ready to play Monday when the Yankees face the Los Angeles Angels on the road.
Lombard suffered the injury while trying to check his swing and avoid getting hit by a 97 mph sinker from Red Sox right-hander Bryan Bello in a 2-2 count with one out and a runner on first base in the second inning.
Lombard singled in the at-bat, played defense in the top of the third inning and batted again in the bottom of that inning. Boone took Lombard out of the game before the start of the fourth, and Lombard went for tests at a nearby hospital, complaining of stiffness.
The 21-year-old had played every inning of every game since he was called up Aug. 4. He’s had ups and downs, hitting .253 with two home runs, six RBIs and a .677 OPS in 23 games. Despite making some highlight-reel defensive plays, he also committed an error in six straight games, a streak that ended Friday.
Lombard is the Yankees’ No. 1 prospect; The Athletic’s Keith Law ranked him as the sixth-best prospect in the game in May.
If Lombard isn’t available Sunday, the Yankees will be without a backup infielder. Third baseman Ryan McMahon (thumb sprain) likely won’t return from the injured list before rosters expand Sept. 1. DH Luis García Jr., regularly a first baseman, played second base for the Washington Nationals in 2025, but is considered a poor defender at the position.
When Lombard debuted, he replaced former Yankees top prospect Anthony Volpe, who hasn’t been called up since. Volpe has mostly played second base at Triple A, but he played third base on Saturday night for the first time.
“The last couple of days,” Boone said, “we started to do some pregame at third just to kind of expand his profile a little bit, expand his versatility a little bit.”

Geoffrey the Giraffe apparently decided that forced retirement just wasn't for him, because Toys R Us is making a comeback and opening new stores across the country, including a new location right here in Illinois.
If you're old enough to remember the excitement of walking into a Toys R Us store as a kid, this news might bring back a few memories. And if you have children or grandchildren who have never experienced the place, well, they're about to find out what all the fuss was about.
That would bring their total number of standalone American locations to 160 in time for the 2026 holiday shopping season. The expansion is happening through a partnership with Go! Retail Group. According to Patch.com, the move comes eight years after the retailer closed its Illinois stores during its nationwide liquidation in 2018.
And yes, Illinois is getting in on the action.
According to the Chicago Tribune, a new Toys R Us store is scheduled to open in early October at Yorktown Center in Lombard. The approximately 7,500-square-foot store will occupy space on the lower level of the mall's JCPenney wing.
The new locations are expected to feature a selection of seasonal toys, collectibles and gifts, including merchandise from familiar brands and entertainment franchises. Some locations will also include candy shops, cafés and special Creator Studios, where toy brands and content creators can film videos, unveil products and host events.
Illinois is also getting Creator Studios at Gurnee Mills, Chicago Premium Outlets in Aurora and White Oaks Mall in Springfield, with those spaces scheduled to open October 1st, according to Patch.
Of course, this isn't quite the same Toys R Us that many of us remember. The company has been rebuilding its American presence through smaller stores, Macy's partnerships and other retail locations since its bankruptcy and liquidation.
Still, there's something undeniably nostalgic about seeing that familiar name return to shopping malls. It might give some shoppers the idea of returning to a mall again after a long time of staying away.

“Good enough to stay in right now,” Boone, the Yankees’ manager, told Ken Rosenthal on Fox as the top of the third inning began, but he didn’t sound hopeful. The next pitch sailed over the right field fence for a Boston Red Sox homer. The day was becoming a disaster.
But while Lombard was visiting New York-Presbyterian Hospital in the middle innings, the Yankees (77-59) recovered to wallop the Red Sox, 9-2, and earn a split. They now lead Boston (74-62) by three games for the top American League wild-card spot.
Lombard might not play on Sunday, when the winner will clinch the season series and a potential tiebreaker between the teams. But the Yankees believe Lombard will avoid the injured list, even without definitive word on his test results.
“They’re still waiting to make sure and clarify, but it looks like a day-to-day situation,” Boone said postgame.
Lombard was batting against Brayan Bello in the second when he twisted his knee while rotating his hips on a fastball that veered inside. The ball did not hit Lombard, but he asked for time after the awkward movement.
He grimaced and hopped out of the box on his left foot, then grabbed at his knee and flexed it with a trainer before staying in and singling to left on the next pitch.
“A little weird discomfort,” Boone described it after the game. “He was going to swing and then kind of really shut down. I think he caught his spike a little bit as he was kind of putting the brakes on. Just kind of tweaked it.”

Lombard played defense in the top of the third and batted again in the bottom of the inning, flying out to left. But Boone removed him before the top of the fourth, shifting José Caballero to shortstop and bringing in Amed Rosario to play third base.
“I heard that it’s not too bad,” Caballero said. “It’s great news because he’s been playing really well. So we need the whole group together and healthy.”
Lombard, 21, has become integral to the group since arriving on Aug. 4, after the Yankees refused to trade him at the deadline. He is hitting .253/.310/.367 with two home runs in 23 games, though he has committed seven errors.
His single was part of an unusual attack by the Yankees, who had 13 singles without an extra-base hit in Saturday’s second game. The last time they did that in a nine-inning game (per a Stathead search) was May 1, 1999, in Kansas City. Chuck Knoblauch had three hits that night; Luis García Jr. did it this time.
García, acquired from the Washington Nationals in a trade on Aug. 3, has 15 hits (including four homers) in his last 10 games. He is hitting .309 for the Yankees and will not be a free agent until after the 2027 season.
“You’re seeing a guy (at) 26 years old really come of age this year, and he hasn’t really missed the beat since coming over to us,” Boone said. “We’re thrilled to have him because he’s a dangerous, dangerous hitter.”
The Yankees haven’t had enough of those in their summer without Aaron Judge, who has not played since May 31 because of a stress fracture of his right rib. In 75 games without Judge before Saturday, the Yankees had a .220 average and a .290 on-base percentage, both MLB lows, and had outscored only the Seattle Mariners during that time.
The first game brought more futility, with the Yankees looking all but helpless in a 6-0 loss to Jake Bennett and three relievers. Their Game 2 outburst came mostly with an eighth-inning singles parade off Raymond Burgos, Boston’s extra man for the doubleheader.
The Yankees’ best news was probably the return of Max Fried, who missed two weeks with a recurrence of a left elbow bone bruise. Fried was on a pitch count and still hasn’t earned a victory since April, but he said he felt strong for 3 ? innings, striking out four and allowing one run.
“I would say I was feeling really strong before this IL stint, and I was feeling good in the (Aug. 14) game, it was just one little pitch that irritated it,” Fried said. “So to be able to get through, feel really good and come out healthy, that’s all I can ask for.”
Lombard will be back at Yankee Stadium on Sunday with an update on his status. If he can say something similar after Saturday’s scare, that is all the Yankees can ask for, too.
