CLERMONT, Fla. — Madison at Clermont recently threw a huge party to celebrate a Lake County's man 100th birthday.
Being able to live an entire century is an accomplishment in itself, but if you ask Jerry Rosenberg about it, it just happened.
"I never really gave it a thought," Rosenberg said. "It just crept up, and one day it was there."
On the way to that milestone, he racked up many accomplishments.
Born in Boston in 1925, he served in World War II and the Korean War.
After his military service, he owned a burglar alarm company, which he later sold to Honeywell.
That's just scratching the service.
"I never thought of being proud of what I accomplished," Rosenberg said. "I was personally pleased that I was able to do what I was able to do, maybe a little upset that I didn't accomplish more."
But he did.
After he retired, Rosenberg and his wife Selma, in 1975, went back to college and graduated.
Selma studied English and Jerry took paths in finance and music.
Overall, you can say he's still living his best life.
"I struggle a little bit because my sight is deteriorating and I miss that a lot, but other than that, physically, most of the time I can walk around just fine," Rosenberg said.
Clermont Mayor Tim Murry delivered a proclamation from the city for Rosenberg.
"I'm just looking out here and I see that he must've had a great life because of all of the representation I see here," Murry said.
He even received a letter from Florida Rep. Daniel Webster.
But what's most important to him is his family. He has three children and a dozen grandkids.
"You talk about my family and the thing that pleases me most is I am so proud of my family," Rosenberg said. "They're wonderful people."
This is a banner year for his family.
In July, Jerry and Selma will celebrate 78 years of marriage.
