NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Nolensville baseball is once again eyeing the world stage.
The Nolensville Little League 12U all-star team is set to represent the state of Tennessee in the Southeast Region Tournament, set to be played in Warner Robins, Georgia from July 31 through August 5.
Nolensville won its district and state tournaments to earn a spot in the regional bracket. If the team wins the Southeast Region Tournament this week, it will punch its ticket to the big one, the Little League World Series in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
The mid-state program has made it to the Little League World Series in three of the last four years.
Head coach Tim Peck wants to take Nolensville there for the first time under his watch.
“Getting to be a part of it is just really special to us,” Peck said. “I’m actually from Nolensville, my son is a fourth-generation Nolensville ball player, so we put a lot of pride into just what’s across all of our chests and our hats, and it means the world to us.”
Peck’s players echoed that sentiment, preparing to play teams from all across the southeastern region of the United States in a double-elimination, high-stakes tournament this week.
“Not a lot of kids have gotten to do this,” Gavin Meinema, Nolensville infielder and pitcher, said. “It’s a lot of our dreams from a young age, so being able to play in this is really special.”
And for some players, the opportunity is about carrying on familial and hometown pride.
“It’s really cool and it means a lot because my brother did the exact same thing we’re doing, like he won districts, he won state, then they won region, and hopefully we can do the same,” Colin Gomillion, Nolensville outfielder and pitcher, said.
Nolensville is set to face Florida in the opening game of the regional tournament Thursday morning in Warner Robins, Georgia, at 8 a.m. CT.
