Home Care In Lexington, KY

Home Care Lexington, KY

They say that your golden years are the best years of your life. For most older Americans, that's how it should be - a time to relax, reflect, and live life in a familiar place. After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

However, as seniors grow older, completing daily tasks like showering and enjoying activities such as visiting the historic Waveland State Historic Site gets harder without someone by their side. Unfortunately, many older Americans aren't able to rely on their adult children for help. The reality in today's world is that family members do not have the skills or time to dedicate to caring for their parents. That's where Always Best Care Senior Services comes in.

Our in-home care services are for people who prefer to stay at home as they grow older but need ongoing care that family or friends cannot provide. More and more older adults prefer to live far away from long-term, institutionalized facilities and closer to the place where they feel most comfortable - their home. Home care in Lexington, KY is a safe, effective way to give your loved ones the care they need when they need it the most.

The Always Best Care Difference

Since 1996, Always Best Care has provided non-medical in-home care for seniors to help them maintain a healthy lifestyle as they get older. We are proud to have helped more than 25,000 seniors maintain higher levels of dignity and respect. We focus on providing seniors with the highest level of in-home care available so that they may live happily and independently.

Unlike some senior care companies, we genuinely want to be included in our clients' lives. We believe that personalized care is always the better option over a "one size fits all" approach. To make sure our senior clients receive the best care possible, we pair them with compassionate caregivers who understand their unique needs. That way, they may provide care accordingly without compromising their wellbeing.

The Always Best Care difference lies in life's little moments - where compassionate care and trustworthy experience come together to help seniors live a fruitful, healthy life. Whether you are an aging adult that can't quite keep up with life's daily tasks or the child of a senior who needs regular in-home services, Always Best Care is here to help.

TESTIMONIALS

“Always Best Care is truly a wonderful agency. My brother and I did research on an in-home caregiver and ABC was one of three that we chose to interview. Always Best Care surpassed by far any of the other agencies. They maintain consistent contact with me (her daughter), post after each visit so that I can see what was done, either answer or return calls promptly. Caregiver Amanda is an angel. She goes far beyond simple care. As my mother says, "She babies me," which is exactly what my mother needs. I cannot say enough good things about this agency and Amanda. Everything has exceeded my expectations and I am grateful that we chose them.”

“Always Best Care has been wonderful to work with during my parents' health issues. Their senior management works very hard to match their care givers with their clients and spends time to make sure things get off to a great start. The first impressions are outstanding and the care my parents have received is First Class.”

“I cannot say enough good things about Always Best Care and the service they provide to my disabled father. They have worked hand-in-glove with the VA for my father’s care. Everyone - and I do mean everyone - from ownership down to the daily aides who provide direct care to my father, have shown him the kindness and dignity you would hope to receive from a family member. Any issues we have ever had have been addressed promptly, even during weekends. Sarah and her team are hands on - I doubt many owners of similar companies make house visits like Sarah has. Any new aide who has been provided for my father has had personal introduction by a member of management, and we have had management team members step up to the plate when there have been scheduling issues to ensure my father received the daily assistance he needs. I recommend ABC highly and can’t thank them enough for all that they do. 5 Stars across the board!”

What is Non-Medical Senior Care in Lexington, KY?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse - Lexington or visit The Loudoun House, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Lexington, KY, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your KY's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

A multistate roofing company with headquarters in Lexington that’s under investigation by the Kentucky Attorney General’s office, abruptly went out of business over the weekend, leaving customers high but not necessarily dry.

Lexington Blue, with offices in Lexington, Louisville and Cincinnati, sent customers an email saying it was closing its doors as of April 26 and has handed over all existing contracts to another company, Skyline GC.

“We have formally transferred our backlog of outstanding projects and warranties to Skyline GC LLC, a local roofing company that shares Lexington Blue’s values of excellence, integrity, and community care,” according to the email to customers. “If you have a pending project or warranty, you can expect direct communication from Skyline GC within the next 30 days.”

Lexington Blue said it has defaulted “on all credit lines and loans.”

The news is not settling well with some homeowners.

Tim Buckingham, contacted the Herald-Leader to say he had filed an insurance claim in February 2024 with Lexington Blue and paid “a significant amount of money ... and still no roof,” the Lexington homeowner emailed.

He hadn’t heard from the company since September until the going-out-of-business email arrived.

An office manager in Louisville told WDRB-TV, which has reported on issues involving Lexington Blue in Jefferson County, she estimates more than 80 customers in Louisville are waiting on roofing work there.

No phone number or contact information was immediately available for Skyline GC. The Kentucky Secretary of State’s office lists the organizer as Cesar Gutierrez Arreaga and says the office is on Chantilly Street in Lexington.

Lexington Blue was founded in 2015 by Bradly Pagel Jr. of Lexington. A Herald-Leader call on April 28 to Lexington Blue’s office ended in a voicemail box that is full.

Lexington Blue is under investigation by the Kentucky Attorney General’s office and is facing multiple lawsuits in Fayette Circuit Court.

Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman’s office served Lexington Blue with a subpoena and Civil Investigative Demand in March. He demanded business records for Lexington Blue Lexington, Lexington Blue Cincinnati and Lexington Blue University from Jan. 1, 2023, to March 1, 2025.

The Attorney General’s office asked for all contracts, payments, communications, work documents, building permits, licenses and list of sub-contractors as well as bank account information, refund information and marketing.

Coleman’s office requested the documents be turned over within 20 days, by March 25. The business attempted to fend off this request by asking Franklin Circuit Court Judge Philip Shepherd to dismiss the demand, which it called overly broad in the court filing. Or, failing that, to ask Coleman’s office to establish reasonable justification for the demand, modify it and/or extend the return date.

No ruling has been made in that case.

Coleman’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday.

But Coleman’s demand letter requests names of customers Lexington Blue or affiliated entities entered into an agreement with for home construction, repair or reconstruction services over the past two years.

Coleman’s office asked the company to identified any contracts where Lexington Blue “failed to perform its obligations within the initial time period called for the Agreement; and/or Lexington Blue ... failed to completely perform its obligations” and why.

The letter also asks if Lexington Blue “obtained building permits and/or licenses from local municipalities and counties before commencing work.”

According to the Better Business Bureau in Lexington, the company had a pattern of complaints involving communication issues, services delays and refund issues.

Lexington Blue was not accredited by the BBB and various review websites offer harsh critiques.

There are several cases pending in Fayette Circuit Court, including two that appear to involve roofing repairs that were not made or completed and three involving suppliers.

One homeowner, James Greathouse on Gulfstream Drive, sued in February 2024, alleging that Lexington Blue agreed to fix the roof of his home and shed, damaged in a March 2023 wind and hailstorm. Despite paying more than half of the nearly $7,500 cost up front, Lexington Blue never started the work, according to the lawsuit.

Another couple, Stuart and Brenda Goldsborough on Old Richmond Road, hired Lexington Blue in October 2024 to replace their roof, which had a leak and was under temporary tarps at the time, and paid a deposit of more than $5,500.

After Lexington Blue failed to do any work, the homeowners had to cancel and find another contractor before winter, according to a lawsuit filed in March 2025.

Meanwhile, Lexington Blue had contacted their insurance company and not only asked for the full cost of the new roof up front but had told the insurer the work had been completed by Lexington Blue, when it had not, according to the complaint.

One supplier from Florida, Gulfside Supply, claims Lexington Blue owes more than $70,000 on a line of credit for roofing and lumber provided. Another supplier, Corken Steel Products of Florence, alleges Lexington Blue and Pagel owe more than $49,000 as of January 2025 for goods.

Another Fayette Circuit Court lawsuit filed against Lexington Blue in October 2024 alleges they had not paid their computer and IT services provided and owed almost $7,000.

Another case involves a van that Lexington Blue sold that apparently did not have a clear title because there was a lien on it.

Fresh off of winning four of its last five games (three against ranked opponents), Kentucky will look to keep its late-season surge going this weekend when it hosts South Carolina at Kentucky Proud Park.

This series would mean a lot to both teams, as Kentucky has now turned its eyes towards potentially hosting a third consecutive Regional while South Carolina is not even on the bubble of the NCAA Tournament as of right now. Last season, the College World Series bound Wildcats lost two of three to Carolina in Columbia.

First pitch for Friday night’s series opener is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. EST.

South Carolina Gamecocks (24-18, 4-14)

Former LSU head coach and 2009 College World Series Champion Paul Mainieri was hired as South Carolina’s new head coach after Mark Kingston was fired in the offseason. Mainieri’s 1,505 coaching wins ranked as the 11th most in NCAA history. Under Kingston (2018-2024), the Gamecocks made four NCAA Tournament appearances but never reached the College World Series.

Mainieri hasn’t quite gotten off to the start in Columbia that he may have expected, as the Gamecocks are just 24-18 overall with a less-than-stellar 4-14 conference record. Currently, South Carolina is not projected to make the NCAA Tournament.

As a team, South Carolina is hitting for a dreadful .269 team batting average (191th in NCAA) with a 5.35 team earned run average (97th in NCAA). In short, there isn’t one area that this team is excelling at right now.

With notable Kentucky killers Cade Messina and Gavin Casas no longer apart of the program, junior outfielders Nathan Hall and Ethan Petry are leading the Gamecocks with a .353 batting average. Hall and Petry are tied for the team-lead in batting average, doubles (10) and RBI (34). Petry, who was named a D1Baseball Preseason Second Team All-American, leads the team with 10 home runs.

There is a vast drop-off following Hall and Petry among Carolina’s offensive players, as the rest of the bunch (16 players) are hitting for just a combined .247 batting average.

Carolina’s pitching staff had not been great this season either until last weekend at No. 11 Ole Miss, where sophomore right-hander Brandon Stone enjoyed the best start of his young career. In Thursday’s series opener, Stone pitched a complete game in which he held Ole Miss to just two runs on six hits with only 86 pitches thrown.

Their three starting pitchers that Kentucky will face this weekend (Stone, LHP Jake McCoy and LHP Jarvis Evans Jr.) boast a combined 5.86 ERA in 124 1/3 innings pitched this season. Pitching however was a catalyst for the Gamecocks’ upset series victory over the Rebels last weekend, which was their first of the season.

Kentucky Wildcats (23-15, 8-10)

Kentucky had been *so close* to a marquee SEC series victory through its first five weeks of the conference slate. The series win over Texas A&M in College Station was impressive, but A&M wasn’t quite the team they are right now. The ‘Cats however took care of business and took two of three from No. 4 Tennessee in Knoxville last weekend, drummed No. 19 Louisville 17-5 on Tuesday and look to be one of the hottest teams in College Baseball at the moment.

“The Cats are hot,” outfielder Carson Hansen proclaimed following their run-rule victory over Louisville on Tuesday. This could not be more true, as national media outlets are starting to pay more and more attention to this scrappy Kentucky team, which is now projected as a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Keep on winning and a potential third consecutive Regional is on the table.

Following his stellar 3-3 game with a home run, a triple and a single against Louisville, senior third baseman Patrick Herrera improved his batting average to a team-leading .328. The ‘Cats now have three batters over .300, with freshman shortstop Tyler Bell (.318) and senior outfielder Cole Hage (.310) rounding out the trio. Hage however has been less than stellar against SEC competition, as his average is a lowly .203.

We’ll get another look at Kentucky’s starting rotation this weekend, which has been one of the best in the entirety of the SEC. Right-hander Nic McCay, who is the reigning SEC Pitcher of the Week, boasts an SEC-best .177 opponent batting average while sophomore left-hander Ben Cleaver boasts a 3.31 ERA (fourth in conference) against SEC teams.

A series win for the ‘Cats this weekend would get them one step closer to clinching a trip to the Big Dance, and a step closer for a potential Regional host berth.

Churchill Downs on Wednesday announced that the Kentucky racetrack, soon to host the annual Kentucky Derby, is pausing a major expansion due to President Trump’s tariffs and overall economic uncertainty.

The Louisville-based gambling and racing company made the announcement as it released first-quarter earnings, which were overall positive with record net revenue.

But the company said it would pause capital projects released earlier this year “due to the current economic environment.”

In February, Churchill Downs announced plans for a nearly $1 billion expansion, its largest ever, to begin later this year and extend through 2028. The projects were to revamp the existing Skye Terrace into more premium hospitality experiences; create permanent premium seating in the infield; and add infield structures for the General Admission area as well.

Now, Churchill says, those will be delayed.

“The decision to delay these construction projects is due to the increasing uncertainty surrounding construction costs related to tariff and trade disputes as well as current macro-economic conditions,” Churchill Downs said in a news release. “In the coming months, CDI will assess the evolving economic landscape and evaluate any changes to the timing and sequencing of these multi-year projects.”

The decision to pause the Skye Terrace and infield projects “was a difficult one for us to make because we do not want to disappoint our fans,” said Bill Carstanjen, chief executive officer of Churchill Downs Inc., in the release.

“However, we have a responsibility to be disciplined given the recent changes in the economic environment. We remain committed to growing our iconic flagship asset over the long term with projects that will provide new once-in-a lifetime experiences for our guests and deliver best-in-class shareholder returns.”

Churchill also announced two new projects with smaller price tags, geared toward deep-pocketed fans and bettors, that will continue: renovations of the existing Finish Line Suites and The Mansion. The total cost of those two new projects is a more modest $25 million to $30 million, according to the announcement.

“We are pleased to announce these new projects designed to significantly improve the Finish Line Suites and The Mansion, which are two of our most exclusive areas of the racetrack,” Carstanjen said.

Churchill Downs executives will hold a conference call with investors at 9 a.m. ET Thursday to discuss the quarter’s results, which do not include the upcoming Kentucky Derby on May 3.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A fourth restaurant in Lexington is accused of wage and tip theft in a potential class action lawsuit filed by a former employee, according to the Herald-Leader.

The lawsuit alleges that Carson’s Food & Drink violated wage laws, tip pooling regulations and required employees to work in two roles without paying them minimum wage at both of its Lexington locations.

The Herald-Leader says the lawsuit was filed by Laken Pinkerman, an employee at the restaurant’s Main Street location from May 2017 to September 2024.

Pinkerman says that while working as a server and bartender, she made less than minimum wage but received tips from customers. She was required to pay part of her tip money to her coworkers at the end of each shift, a practice known in the industry as “tipping out.”

The Herald-Leader says Pinkerman also alleges that she was required to work before and after her shift for a rate below the minimum wage. Pinkerman accuses Carson’s of incorrectly utilizing tip credit provisions required by law and was paid less than the minimum wage and overtime wage.

Co-owner Jayme Jackson emailed a statement to the paper.

“We are actively working with our legal counsel and our leadership team to ensure that Carson’s, and its parent company Palate Restaurant Group are always compliant with the latest laws and statutes. We are grateful for all of our team members and our guests that allow our small, family-owned business to continue to serve the Lexington area every day.”

Jayme Jackson, Carson's Food and Drink co-owner

Pinkerman’s attorney, David Garrison, also emailed a statement to the paper saying the goal of the lawsuit is to recover wages and tips that employees rightfully earned.

“Along with Garmer & Prather in Lexington, we are proud to represent current and former Carson’s servers and bartenders in this class and collective action that seeks to recover the wages and tips owed to them under the law... At this early stage of the case, other current and former Carson’s servers and bartenders may join the case, and they should contact our law firm to do so.”

David Garrison, in an emailed statement to the Herald-Leader

The lawsuit comes shortly after Tony’s Steak and Seafood, Drake’s, Malone’s and Harry’s recently settled similar disputes in court.

The Herald-Leader reports that Pinkerman is seeking recovery of unpaid minimum and overtime wages, liquidated damages and legal fees.
