CROSS PLAINS, Wis. -- June is Dairy Month, and this year, one local family farm is celebrating a milestone that’s been more than a century in the making.
Just north of Cross Plains, nestled across 300 acres of land, the Nonn Family Farm is turning 125 years old. What started generations ago has become a family affair, one rooted in hard work, tradition, and a shared dream.
Wes Nonn represents the fifth generation on the farm. He lives on the property with his wife, Tara, and their three children: Kypton, Beau, and Haisley.
"It’s a lot of work, but it’s a lot of fun, too. I mean, I’m living my dream," said Wes.
Not only are they preserving the land, they’re building lifelong memories. Wes and Tara got married on the farm seven years ago this week.
"It’s all of our dream. I couldn’t be happier being out here with him," Tara said.
From milking around 60 cows to raising beef cattle and managing the daily grind of farm life, the Nonns are keeping a piece of Wisconsin’s agricultural heritage alive.
There's just something about keeping the farm in the family.
"Everybody’s like, oh the farm is worth so much, but it’s only worth so much if you sell it. If you can pass it on, it’s priceless," added Bob Nonn, Wes' dad.
Even 9-year-old Kypton is dreaming big.
"I’m hoping to be the 6th generation," Kypton said. "I play a lot of sports, but I really enjoy helping my dad in the summer."
Wes was beaming following that answer, but he also wants what's best for his kids in both the short term and the long run.
"I’m hoping. I’m not going to push them. I want them to figure it out themselves, just like my dad did for me," Wes added.
The Nonn Family Farm’s 125th Anniversary Celebration is Saturday, June 14th from 1 to 7 p.m. Mass is set for 2 p.m. and dinner will be served at 4 p.m. They are located at 7915 County Road K is Cross Plains.
