CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WWBT) - Why did the turkey cross the road?
Well, that’s what some Chesterfield County residents, like Marc Fitzgerald and his family, are trying to figure out.
“We were coming down the Charter Colony Parkway and the turkey was coming right off the sidewalk and he was coming right up to the car to say hi to us,” Fitzgerald said.
And as it would turn out, the Fitzgeralds weren’t the only ones who noticed a peculiar pedestrian.
“My step-daughter brought it to my attention and said ‘what is that over there?’ one day and I said, ‘that’s a turkey. That’s a real turkey on the side of the highway,’” said Jon Houck, a Chesterfield County resident.
That turkey proved to be one punctual poultry, showing up at the same time and place, right at the connection of Powhite Parkway and Old Hundred Road.
“Every morning since I’ve left at around 9 a.m, 9:15 a.m. he’s out there,” Houck said.
Becca Garber and her family are such fans that she created a Facebook page dedicated to turkey sightings.
“Just a fun way to get the kids excited on the way to school and get the community to laugh about something right now,” Garber said.
It’s given the community something to gobble about, some even coming up with names like Gary, Apple Butter, and even Mr. Thanksgiving Turkey.
But some residents also believe he could have a Mrs.
“We think that it’s a female and then the pictures of the male turkey with the big feathers, we were like, okay, they’re definitely two different turkeys,” Garber said.
Residents are urging drivers to keep their eyes peeled for the turkeys if they’re driving near Charter Colony and Powhite Parkway.
As for these turkeys and their Thanksgiving plans...
“I hope he finds a really good hiding spot,” Fitzgerald’s wife, Meg, said.
