What is Non-Medical Senior Care in Stockton, CA?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local Midgley's Public House or visit Reuel Colt Gridley Monument, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Stockton, CA, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your CA's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.
 Senior Care Stockton, CA

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Stockton, CA understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Stockton, CA (April 24, 2025) – Emergency medical personnel responded to a late-night car crash that resulted in injuries Tuesday on the Interstate 5 Freeway near Tustin Ranch Rd in Stockton. The California Highway Patrol received the report at approximately 9:35 p.m., prompting a coordinated response from law enforcement and local paramedics.

Authorities confirmed that two vehicles were involved in the incident. Although the exact cause of the collision remains under investigation, initial details reveal that at least one person sustained injuries and required transportation to a nearby hospital. The extent of the individual's injuries has not yet been made public, and no further identifying information was released as of Wednesday morning.

Emergency crews worked to clear the scene while maintaining traffic control to prevent secondary accidents in the area. Investigators are actively gathering information to determine whether factors such as speed, impairment, or roadway conditions played a role in the crash.

Our thoughts go out to the person injured in this accident, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery.

Interstate Accidents in California

Interstate 5 is one of California’s busiest highways, serving as a major corridor for both local and long-distance travel through Stockton and surrounding regions. Due to its high traffic volume and rapid travel speeds, the I-5 corridor is often the site of serious accidents, particularly in areas where entrance and exit ramps create congestion and merging risks.

This recent crash near Tustin Ranch Rd highlights the persistent dangers associated with freeway travel, especially at night when visibility decreases and fatigue can impair drivers’ judgment. With multiple vehicles involved, investigators must carefully reconstruct the scene to uncover the events that led to the crash.

Collisions like this one serve as stark reminders of the importance of cautious driving on California’s interstates. Sudden lane changes, distracted driving, and speeding are common contributing factors to freeway accidents. For Stockton residents and commuters, nighttime driving requires heightened alertness and attention to changing traffic conditions.

Efforts to improve freeway safety across California include increased highway patrol visibility, the deployment of real-time traffic monitoring systems, and public awareness campaigns addressing common high-risk behaviors. Still, accidents continue to occur, often leaving victims with significant medical, emotional, and financial challenges.

If you or a loved one has been affected by a serious accident on I-5 or any other California highway, knowing where to turn for help is crucial. Immediate access to medical care, legal advice, and support services can ease the recovery journey.

Navigating the aftermath of a freeway accident can feel overwhelming—but you don’t have to do it alone. Stockton, CA (April 23, 2025) – A crash involving two semi-trucks led to injuries and significant traffic disruption late Tuesday night on northbound Interstate 5 just south of Benjamin Holt Drive in Stockton.

The collision, which occurred around 10:13 p.m., involved two large commercial vehicles, one of which caught fire following the impact. One of the trucks was reportedly hauling up to 60,000 pounds and experienced a possible air leak with a locked trailer axle, compounding the danger and complexity of the scene. Emergency services, including Stockton Fire Department and CHP, arrived promptly and began managing traffic while treating those injured.

Rather than a complete freeway shutdown, authorities temporarily closed the affected off-ramp and diverted vehicles through the #1 and #2 lanes to maintain traffic flow. A flare pattern was laid out to warn oncoming drivers, and multiple tow services were contacted to manage the extensive debris and disabled trucks. Hazmat teams were also alerted due to reports of oil spilling onto the roadway.

By approximately 10:37 p.m., the affected lanes were cleared, and traffic resumed. The severity of injuries has been categorized as minor, but the incident remains under investigation, particularly concerning vehicle mechanical failure or operator error.

We send our thoughts to those recovering from the crash and recognize the efforts of first responders who quickly secured a hazardous scene.

Commercial Vehicle Accidents in California

Collisions involving semi-trucks can be especially dangerous due to the massive size and weight of the vehicles. Even in cases where injuries are labeled "minor," the physical, logistical, and financial aftermath can be anything but.

The Stockton crash highlights several risks unique to commercial vehicle operations. The possibility of mechanical failure—such as an air leak or trailer lock-up—requires rapid action from drivers to prevent loss of control. When multiple large trucks collide, the resulting scene often includes blocked lanes, cargo spills, and fire hazards, all of which endanger nearby drivers and responders.

California's central corridors like I-5 serve as major freight arteries, with a constant flow of commercial traffic. This makes proper vehicle maintenance, driver training, and adherence to safety protocols critical. The weight and momentum of big rigs mean that even low-speed collisions can carry high risk.

Emergency response to such incidents is also uniquely challenging. Agencies must coordinate between firefighting units, hazmat teams, and multiple tow services while managing public safety and preventing secondary collisions. In this case, responders effectively handled flare pattern setups and diverted traffic under high-stress conditions—helping minimize potential for further harm.

Those injured in trucking accidents often face complicated recovery paths. From medical care to legal representation and insurance negotiations, the road to resolution can be long and difficult without proper support.

Whether you’re a driver, a passenger, or a bystander injured in a truck-related accident, it’s important to know your rights and have access to reliable resources.

If you or someone you care about was hurt in a crash involving a commercial truck, Local Accident Reports can help guide your next steps. We connect victims with trusted resources and support services designed to ease the burden during recovery. Contact us today to learn more about your options and how we can help.

What you need to know: Governor Gavin Newsom’s Administration continues to make significant investments in protecting California’s communities from the threat of climate change and extreme weather conditions with groundbreaking of a $1.95 billion flood protection project.

STOCKTON – California, along with federal and local partners, today broke ground in Stockton on a critical infrastructure project that will improve flood protection for tens of thousands of Californians and billions of dollars in property in the Central Valley.

The groundbreaking ceremony marks the start of construction for the Tenmile Slough levee project in Stockton. It is a critical component of the larger Lower San Joaquin River Project, a $1.95 billion project funded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the California Department of Water Resources, and the San Joaquin Area Flood Control Agency. Once completed, the project will provide improved flood protection for 122,000 residents and $28.7 billion in property along the San Joaquin River for the North and Central Stockton Area.

“Investing in California’s water infrastructure benefits us all. I am grateful for the partnership here from the federal government to help us prepare our communities for extreme weather caused by climate change and prevent future disasters.”

Governor Gavin Newsom

The Tenmile Slough levee segment is rated as the most critically deficient in the Central Valley levee system. Following historic flooding in 1997, DWR and the Central Valley Flood Protection Board identified significant flood risk in the San Joaquin River Basin. Federal, state and local partners worked together to evaluate and design the necessary improvements to respond to these risks.

The Lower San Joaquin River Project is a crucial part of the system-wide flood risk reduction effort outlined in the Central Valley Flood Protection Plan, which provides a comprehensive framework for improving flood protection in the Sacramento and San Joaquin River Basins. This project represents a critical milestone in efforts to protect urban communities, one of many focus areas of the Plan.

“Protecting the people and economy of San Joaquin County from the devastation of extreme flooding is enormously important. Projects like this pay for themselves many times over as shifts between extreme wet and dry conditions become more common,” said DWR Director Karla Nemeth. “California is committed to making these investments in flood infrastructure across the state to adapt to our new climate reality.”

The Lower San Joaquin River Project is just one of several major flood control projects in the state that collectively represent billions of dollars of new and improved infrastructure to protect communities, including:

The Governor, in partnership with the Legislature, has invested a total of $560 million over the past two state budgets to support flood response and projects to protect communities from future flooding.

“Levees play a vitally important role in safeguarding Delta communities, farmland, and water supplies,” said Senator Jerry McNerney (SD-5). “Yet many of the Delta’s 1,100 miles of levees need repair or reinforcement to protect against flooding due to climate change,” said Sen. Jerry McNerney, whose 5th Senate District includes the heart of the Delta region. “The Tenmile Slough levee project in Stockton is an essential step in fortifying our aging levee system, and I thank Governor Newsom, the California Department of Water Resources, the San Joaquin Area Flood Control Agency, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for their support of and contribution to this crucial project.”

“Today marks a major milestone for the City of Stockton and our entire region. The start of construction on the Tenmile Slough levee is essential to delivering the flood protection our community needs and deserves,” said Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom (AD-13). “This pivotal step reflects our long-term commitment to public safety, climate resilience, and infrastructure investment. I’m proud to represent this district and to show what’s possible through strong federal, state, and local partnerships. This is what progress looks like: smart, united, forward-thinking investments that safeguard our communities and build a stronger future. We’re one step closer to delivering the safety and security our residents depend on.”

This project is a key part of Governor Newsom’s build more, faster agenda, delivering infrastructure upgrades and thousands of jobs across the state. Find projects building your community at build.ca.gov.

Stockton, CA (April 14, 2025) – Emergency responders were quick to the scene, providing care to the injured victims following a traffic collision reported early Sunday morning on State Route 99 South just south of the Mariposa Rd onramp in Stockton. The accident occurred shortly after 5:10 a.m. and involved at least two vehicles, resulting in minor injuries and traffic disruption.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the collision involved a black Dodge Charger and a black pickup truck. Initial reports indicated that one of the vehicles may have been facing the wrong direction in the fast lane, creating a hazardous condition for other motorists. All lanes were temporarily blocked due to debris and disabled vehicles, with a vehicle also stopped on the right-hand shoulder.

Emergency medical crews responded to evaluate those involved. While the crash was initially categorized as a major injury event, it was later downgraded to a "1181" traffic collision involving minor injuries. At least one individual was transported for treatment, and tow services were called to assist with clearing the vehicles and providing fuel for a stranded party.

The exact cause of the crash is still under investigation. No further details have been released regarding citations or contributing factors such as driver distraction or mechanical failure.

Our thoughts are with those recovering from this incident, and we hope for a full recovery for all involved.

Interstate Safety on SR-99 in San Joaquin County

Crashes on State Route 99 remain a consistent issue throughout California’s Central Valley, where high-speed commuter traffic and freight transport converge daily. The stretch near the Mariposa Rd onramp in Stockton is particularly known for its frequent incidents due to its location near major interchange zones and high-volume traffic flows.

Early morning crashes, such as the one reported on April 13, often involve added risks such as reduced visibility, drowsy driving, and the potential for wrong-way travel—any of which can escalate into dangerous situations quickly. In this case, CHP logs noted a vehicle facing the wrong direction, which significantly raises the risk of secondary collisions.

The California Office of Traffic Safety continues to emphasize defensive driving and proper lane discipline as key measures to reduce collisions on highways like SR-99. Motorists are urged to slow down in areas with blocked lanes or visible hazards and to report any irregular driving behavior they observe.

For those involved in minor injury collisions, seeking immediate medical evaluation and documenting the scene are important steps toward ensuring recovery and supporting insurance or legal claims.

If you or someone you know has been injured in a crash, reach out to Local Accident Reports for assistance.

"The Stockton Cambodian Buddhist Temple features over 90 colorful and larger than life jewel encrusted statues that celebrate the life and story of the Cambodian Buddha," Visit Stockton website states. "You have to see it to believe it ... the temple boasts a 50-foot long recumbent Buddha."

Based on the Khmer calendar, this year's Cambodian New Year marks the year 2568 and is the year of the snake.

According to past Stockton Record reporting, Monk Kong Tith explained that it's important to pass along the teachings of Buddha and the five laws during the Cambodian New Year celebration. The laws include no killing, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying or drinking alcohol.

More than 10 years ago, Stockton Record reported that Wat Dhammararam was among the largest Cambodian Buddhist temples in California, with temple leaders envisioning it as a Northern California hub of Cambodian culture.

According to the U.S. Census, in 2024, San Joaquin County reported a population of 816,108 people, with 20.4 % identifying as "Asian, alone."

The temple was featured in Huell Howser’s ROAD TRIP to Stockton in 2007. In a video posted by Visit Stockton, Howser is seen walking around the temple.

According to the Visit Stockton website, there are a few rules to "respect and obey" during your visit to the Wat Dhammararam Buddhist Temple. To make your visit more fun, print the Cambodian Buddhist Temple Guide to help you learn more about the statues during your tour.
