CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. —
The United States Postal Service facility at Pennwood Place is gearing up for the holiday season, with workers prepared to manage hundreds of thousands of packages daily.
"This is our prime time. This is our Super Bowl," said Mark Wahl, a strategic communications specialist with the Postal Service.
While you are waiting and tracking one specific package you need for the holidays, there are hundreds of Postal Service workers in the area making sure it gets to its destination on time and in one piece.
"We have the equipment, the machinery and, and most importantly, we have the people. People at Pennwood Place care about their mail. They care about the customers," Stephen Tarpey, executive plan manager at Pennwood Place, said.
This year, the plant is seeing the holiday rush early. Tarpey said they will go through hundreds of thousands of packages daily.
"On a typical day, we've been averaging around 350,000 to 400,000 packages per day. And when Christmas really hits, we're going to go upwards of 650,000."
Even though the operation runs like a well-oiled machine, there are mail-by dates to ensure a successful gift delivery before Christmas Day.

Wahl said the most important things to know when shipping a package are where it is going and how much it weighs.
"It's very simple, affordable, reliable. It's not confusing. What I love about it is that if you go to a local post office or online, just show them what you're shipping. 'Hey, I want to get this here.' We're going to provide your options, and again and inform customer."
