The VACCN Homemaker/Home Health Aide & Respite Care is a benefit offered to Veterans who require assistance with activities associated with daily living. Homemakers and Home Health Aides, while not nurses themselves, are trained professionals who can provide support and care to Veterans in their own homes.

How To Enroll In
Gaining access to VA senior care requires a three-step enrollment process. Those steps include the following:
First, request an Assessment for Community Care Network (CCN) services from your VA Physician. From there, the VA Physician will conduct an assessment and write an order accordingly (based on eligibility and needs). After that step, request that your VA Physician specifies which VA home care provider you would like to use, such as Always Best Care.
During this step, a Community Care Coordinator from the VA will contact you after the VA Physician writes your order. After making contact, the Community Care Coordinator will inform you of the type of care and quantity of hours per week authorized by the VA.
If you have not selected a specific provider, the Community Care Coordinator will provide options in your area. Once a Community Provider like Always Best Care is selected, the Community Care Coordinator will send the authorization to the selected Community Provider that you request.
Should you choose Always Best Care as your Community Care Provider, a home care claims manager will call you to arrange a care consultation, complete the intake paperwork, and schedule in-home care services. After the care consultation, the Community Care Provider performs a final assessment of your needs.
After the final assessment is complete, a Care Plan is created for you by the Community Provider. The Community Care Provider will arrange for a caregiver to come to your home for the number of authorized hours allowed each week.

The Tigers of McKeesport hosted the Fightin’ Planets of Mars in a matchup that determined first place in the WPIAL Class 4A Greater Allegheny Conference standings.
McKeesport quarterback Matthew Miller didn’t need to air it out much, completing all four of his pass attempts as the Tigers relied heavily on a dominant ground attack that produced 351 rushing yards on 33 carries.
Running back Kemon Spell led the charge, posting a monster performance with 236 rushing yards on 18 carries, finding the end zone four times on the ground. Spell also caught two passes, including a 66-yard touchdown, and added an 86-yard punt return touchdown to cap off his standout night.
Akeem Cochran made the most of his limited touches, turning one of his two carries into a 33-yard touchdown, finishing with 70 total yards. Javier Everett added a one-yard touchdown, rounding out McKeesport’s dominant offensive effort.
For Mars, quarterback Colin Yurisinec completed 15 of 25 passes for 184 yards, with Gabe Hein serving as his top target, hauling in nine receptions for 118 yards. On the ground, Ayden Yokum had a strong performance with 234 rushing yards on 24 carries and two touchdowns, while Jameson Garvin added a pair of short touchdown runs from three and one yard out.
With the win, McKeesport improves to 5-3 (3-0) and remains atop the conference standings. The Tigers will travel to Indiana next week to face the Little Indians, while Mars falls to 6-2 (2-1) and will look to bounce back when they host Hampton next Friday.

BUTLER COUNTY, Pa. — Parents in the Mars Area School District received a shocking email Thursday about a black bear being spotted near their kids’ playground
“I wake up this morning, my wife tells me there is a bear at the school,” said parent Mike Kohler.
The school district’s email told parents a bear was seen walking across the grounds of the Primary Center, and the incident had been reported to the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
On Friday, parents told Channel 11 they prepared their kids.
Kohler showed Channel 11 what he told his 6-year-old to do if she saw a bear:
“Does the bear scare you? What do we do when we see a bear? You put your hands up and you scream, right? You say, ‘Nooo!’”
The Game Commission tells Channel 11 that, generally, black bears don’t interact with humans, and during this time of year, they’re looking for food ahead of their hibernation.
In the past few months, several black bears have been spotted in the area.
“We are in their territory in the upper north, the winter is getting ready to come, they have to put on that fat, and then they’ll go away for a little bit.”
Kohler told us he’s seen a bear in his yard, but says it’s not something he’ll ever get used to.
“We are from South Carolina, so we aren’t used to bears,” Kohler said.
The district is monitoring the area and says they will report any additional sightings to the Game Commission.
