VA Disability Programs
Veterans may be eligible for critical support through one of two distinct VA disability programs. These programs are designed to provide financial assistance and care support, recognizing the individual needs and circumstances of our veterans. Understanding these programs is the first step in accessing the benefits veterans have earned through their service.
- Service-Connected Compensation:
This program is specifically designed to provide compensation for veterans who have sustained injuries or developed disabilities directly related to their active duty service.
The extent of compensation is determined by a disability rating, which ranges from 0-100%. This rating reflects the degree to which the disability impacts the veteran’s ability to work and earn a living. Notably, this program does not have financial eligibility requirements, ensuring that all veterans who have suffered service-connected disabilities have access to the support they need.
- Non–Service Connected Pension:
This program addresses the needs of veterans who are dealing with disabilities that are not related to their military service. To be eligible, veterans must have served during a recognized period of war or conflict. This pension is particularly important as it considers the financial needs of veterans, offering support to those who may not have the means to cover their medical and care expenses. Significantly, this program allows for the deduction of regular, unreimbursed medical expenses – including costs for in-home care and residential care facilities – from the veteran’s income. This deduction is crucial in determining financial need and ensuring that veterans receive the assistance they require.
Both programs are vital in supporting the needs of our veterans, whether their disabilities are directly connected to their service or not. At Always Best Care, we are committed to helping veterans navigate these programs, getting them the benefits and care they deserve. Our team provides guidance and support throughout the application process, helping veterans and their families access these essential services.
