VA FUNDED In-HOME CARE
The VACCN Homemaker/Home Health Aide & Respite Care is a benefit offered to Veterans who require assistance with activities associated with daily living. Homemakers and Home Health Aides, while not nurses themselves, are trained professionals who can provide support and care to Veterans in their own homes.
They are supervised by an Always Best Care registered nurse who assesses the Veteran's care needs and supervises each individual case.

How To Enroll In
Gaining access to VA senior care requires a three-step enrollment process. Those steps include the following:
First, request an Assessment for Community Care Network (CCN) services from your VA Physician. From there, the VA Physician will conduct an assessment and write an order accordingly (based on eligibility and needs). After that step, request that your VA Physician specifies which VA home care provider you would like to use, such as Always Best Care.
During this step, a Community Care Coordinator from the VA will contact you after the VA Physician writes your order. After making contact, the Community Care Coordinator will inform you of the type of care and quantity of hours per week authorized by the VA.
If you have not selected a specific provider, the Community Care Coordinator will provide options in your area. Once a Community Provider like Always Best Care is selected, the Community Care Coordinator will send the authorization to the selected Community Provider that you request.
Should you choose Always Best Care as your Community Care Provider, a home care claims manager will call you to arrange a care consultation, complete the intake paperwork, and schedule in-home care services. After the care consultation, the Community Care Provider performs a final assessment of your needs.
After the final assessment is complete, a Care Plan is created for you by the Community Provider. The Community Care Provider will arrange for a caregiver to come to your home for the number of authorized hours allowed each week.

U-M Health expands reproductive health services, including infertility treatment and IVF, with addition of new clinic in Oakland County
ANN ARBOR, Mich.– Michigan Reproductive Medicine, a private reproductive health practice based in Bloomfield Hills, has joined University of Michigan Health.
The clinic, which specializes in infertility treatment, is reopening as the U-M Health Center for Reproductive Medicine at Bloomfield Hills on Oct. 6.
“This step reflects U-M Health’s continued commitment to expanding access to specialized reproductive care and reinforcing a statewide system of high-quality, patient-centered services,” said Dee Fenner, M.D., chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Michigan Medicine.
“We’re pleased to welcome this exceptional team to our U-M Health family.”
All the services previously provided by Michigan Reproductive Medicine will continue to be available, including fertility services, egg freezing, in vitro fertilization and embryo banking among other services.
Michael Mersol-Barg, M.D., will also continue in his role as medical director of the location and join the Michigan Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
“I am excited about this extraordinary opportunity for our clinic and for the additional resources that will be available to our patients and team members now that we are a part of U-M Health, long recognized for its excellence in patient care,” Mersol-Barg said.
The Center for Reproductive Medicine in Ann Arbor is celebrating 20 years of helping patients and families with their fertility journey and was recently named one of America’s Best Fertility Centers by Newsweek magazine.
Expansion of U-M Health reproductive health services in Oakland County is expected to continue with a clinic located in the future U-M Health Troy Center for Specialty Care, which is scheduled to open in 2027.
"Expanding comprehensive reproductive health services means giving more families the power to plan their futures with dignity, support and expert care,” said Erica Marsh, M.D., professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Michigan Medical School and chief of the division of reproductive endocrinology and infertility at U-M Health Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital.

Tucked atop a sloping site, Sodon Lake House takes its name from the dichothermic lake which it overlooks — one of three of this type in Michigan. From the road, the mid-century modern home appears as a modest atomic ranch.
When experienced from within, the layout is revealed as a series of intermediate floor levels creating cozy areas for living, dining, napping, and entertaining. The client, a family of four returning to Michigan after 15 years in Southern California, quickly fell in love with this quirky home despite the TLC it required.
With sustainability and a SoCal vibe as the main drivers, the architect and homeowner/interior designer focused on enduring materials across the home’s renovation. Uninsulated brick walls were clad in an exterior insulation system which bolstered thermal performance while a white finish brought the lightness and energy the family desired.
Replacing rotted wood siding with a cedar rainscreen provided passive cooling and ventilation while the unstained cedar will allow the home to blend into the wooded site. A standing seam roof was selected for its long lifespan and recyclability.
The interior was completed with a similar strategy. Prioritizing efficient circulation and access to daylight drove most changes. Bright surfaces, low-maintenance materials, and no-VOC finishes contribute to a healthy and uplifting environment.
The concrete slab was exposed and polished, ridding the house of unnecessary finishes. Completed in 2023, Sodon Lake House has been successfully restored into an artistic, chic and uniquely warm abode for a family that embraces the essentials.
