Following a comprehensive public process that included a detailed engineer’s report to align assessments with the specific property benefit, educational outreach, public meetings, and ballot distribution to all property owners, a public hearing was held on May 20. Voting closed at the conclusion of the public hearing, and tabulation was conducted publicly May 21 at the Danville Town Offices. The final results will be presented to the Council for adoption June 3, and if confirmed, the new district assessments will be submitted to the County Tax Assessor for the 2025/26 property tax roll.
The new assessment district is projected to provide an additional $1.4 million in dedicated funding for the upcoming fiscal year, with use of the funds restricted to maintain parks, street lights, landscaping, and facilities town-wide. The funds will help close a funding gap that grew to $1.7 million in fiscal year 2023/24. Danville property owners pay an annual assessment that directly and specifically is earmarked by law to fund public parks, lighting, landscaping, and public facilities through the Lighting and Landscape Assessment District (LLAD). Lighting for safety, parks for recreation, and community buildings—these essential services rely on LLAD funding.
The last LLAD increase was in 2003, and in 2025, the Town is seeking an adjustment to sustain these services. LLAD funds are restricted by state law to fund only these amenities, but the general fund has covered the gap, supplementing the LLAD fund by $1.35 million in fiscal year 2023/24.

DANVILLE, CA —Preliminary tallies indicate that 57.1% of Danville property owners approved a new town-wide Landscaping and Lighting Assessment District, according to a town news release. 42.9% of property owners were opposed. The new district will replace the old LLAD, and go into effect for fiscal year 2025-26.
A public meeting was held on May 20 following an engineer's report, educational outreach, public meetings, and ballot distribution to all property owners. Voting closed at the end of the public hearing, and tabulation was conducted publicly May 21 at the Danville Town Offices. The final results will be presented the council for adoption on June 3.
The new assessment district will use a new rate calculator equal to the Bay Area Consumer Price Index, with a cap of 3% annually. It is projected to provide an additional $1.4 million in dedicated funding for the upcoming year. The new funds will be restricted to maintain parks, street lights, landscaping, and facilities town wide.
The new district will close a funding gap that grew to $1.7 million in 2023-24, which resulted from increasing costs but flat revenue. LLAD revenue has increased by 3.1% since 2003, though expenditures have risen 78%, and many costs are covered by the town’s General Fund. Since 2003, the General Fund’s contribution to the LLAD fund has increased by 607%, the town said. The town said it took many steps to address the rising costs, but recent utility increases have outpaced these efforts.
Under the new LLAD, single-family homeowner adjustments will range from a $50 reduction to a $150 increase, depending on the parcel location. Each property owner was mailed a ballot specifying their current rate and proposed rate. The proposed adjustments are based on findings from a detailed engineer's report, which calculated Equivalent Dwelling Units to ensure proportionality. The new LLAD updates how apartments are assessed, moving from a parcel-based formula to a per-unit assessment.

DANVILLE, CA — Two Danville students received corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarship awards. Finalists are either children of employees, residents of the communities served by the companies, or plan to pursue college majors or careers the companies wish to encourage.
The students were among 830 high school seniors nationally who received scholarships funded by 124 companies. In September, more than 16,000 semifinalists were selected on the basis of their PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test scores. To advance to the finalist round, semifinalists needed to have an outstanding academic record, be endorsed or recommended by a high school official, and earn SAT or ACT scores that confirm their qualifying test performance.
The awards range from $1,000 to $10,000 per year, and most are renewable for up to four years at an accredited college or university.

Ferman and Fernandez are two of five total SRVUSD students given awards. Josiah Chen and Michael Pham of Dougherty Valley High, and William Piggott IV of California High School were also honored.

Winners of the National Merit $2500 Scholarships will be announced May 7, and the winners of college-sponsored Merit Scholarships will be announced June 4 and July 14. By the end of the 2025, more than 6,930 students nationwide will have earned National Merit Scholarships totaling approximately $26 million, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
