The accident was reported around 7:30 p.m., just outside of Orinda city limits, prompting a coordinated response from Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and California Highway Patrol.
According to preliminary reports, multiple vehicles were involved in the collision, which occurred in the eastbound lanes as drivers exited the Caldecott Tunnel. First responders worked to assess a variety of injuries sustained by those involved, providing on-scene aid before transporting at least one individual to a nearby hospital for additional care. A shooting on Highway 24 east of the Caldecott Tunnel in Orinda late Wednesday morning blew out the back window of a vehicle and led to westbound lanes being temporarily shut down, authorities said.
The California Highway Patrol said the driver was unscathed in the shooting near the Wilder Road overcrossing at about 10:30 a.m.
The CHP closed all westbound lanes of state Highway 24 between Camino Pablo and the Caldecott Tunnel for about 50 minutes following the shooting. All westbound lanes were reopened to traffic shortly after 11:45 a.m.
Based on the preliminary investigation, the victim appeared to have been an uninvolved passing motorist at the time of the shooting and was not an intended target, the CHP said.
No other injuries were reported and no suspect vehicle information was available.

The incident marked the third freeway shooting in the East Bay in just over a week. The first shooting happened on Highway 24 in Oakland on Feb. 25 and left one person hospitalized last week. The second shooting happened on Tuesday, also in Oakland on southbound I-880. There were no injuries in that incident.

ORINDA, Calif.(TNND) — NFL player Odell Beckham Jr. said Monday there is “no truth” in allegations detailed in a lawsuit against him and other people in California.
His comment, which was in the form of a post on social media platform X, came less than a day after reports emerged on his alleged involvement in a rape of Ashley Parham, who has accused Sean Combs, or Diddy, of assaulting her.
“I have been informed of the allegations about me in a suit in CA. I really can’t even believe that my name is mentioned in that matter,” Beckham Jr. wrote. “There is absolutely no truth to those allegations. I do not know and have never met the person that filed the suit.”
Variety reported that the lawsuit’s mention of the player was an amendment to the original filing that contained rape accusations against Combs. Parham claimed she was raped in 2018 in an apartment in Orinda, California, a city Beckham Jr. said he has never visited.
“I was not anywhere near Orinda, CA at that time. In fact, I don’t think I have ever even been to Orinda, CA,” the player explained. “I have never done anything like that, and I would never do anything like that to anyone. I’m confident that these ridiculous claims against me will be dismissed.”
Comedian Drew Desbordes, who refers to himself as Druski on social media, was also named in the amended lawsuit, according to Variety. He claimed the allegation is a “fabricated lie.”
“I wasn’t a public figure in 2018 – I was broke living with my mom without any connections to the entertainment industry at the time of this allegation, so the inclusion of my name is truly outlandish,” Desbordes said. “My heart breaks for actual victims of abuse, but I’m fully confident that the evidence will expose this falsehood and the individuals who are maliciously trying to game the legal system to peddle false narratives.”
