Bunny Washburn: No Longer in the Spotlight but Enjoying Life!

Bunny Washburn has lived a life in the spotlight for a long time. She knew from childhood that she wanted to be an entertainer. The glamour of movie stars, and the thrill of applause she witnessed when watching live acts, woke within her a desire to pursue a career in the arts. She delighted in bringing smiles, laughter and joy to audiences everywhere.

With some luck, and a lot of talent, this blonde bombshell started her career as a tap dancer, complete with hat and cane, and with hard work and dedication she became the entertainer she had dreamed of being. Bunny learned to play drums, she also learned to play guitar and perform light comedy.

She met trumpeter Buddy Burden in Chattanooga at a show she was in. Buddy was so impressed with Bunny’s talents that he asked her to join him in an act to play at cocktail lounges. While playing in Nashville, Buddy and Bunny’s act became well-known, and they were signed to record albums.

Bunny was enjoying her career when romance blossomed with a dear friend, TV and Travel Editor Dennis Washburn. Dennis had been married to Bunny’s good friend, Pearl. Pearl had passed away, and in the aftermath of loss a beautiful romance unexpectedly unfolded between Bunny and Dennis. They married, and a whirlwind life of meeting celebrities and traveling to exotic locales became a way of life.

Bunny and Dennis were a happy couple for many years. Life was blessed beyond measure, and when she lost Dennis, she lost the love of her life. Bunny has a rich tapestry of memories to cherish from those wonderful years with Dennis.

As is so often the case with love, it sometimes steps back into our lives and surprises us unexpectedly. In the late 90’s, Bunny was set up by friends for a date with Hasbrouck “Happy” Haynes. It was almost a disaster due to a restaurant mix-up that resulted from a misunderstanding. They ended up having a great first date after that rocky beginning. They enjoyed each other’s company so much that they are still together!

Bunny worked at Happy’s Accounting firm, Haynes Downard LLP, for many years. They are retired now, and they are enjoying their well-deserved Golden Years. They are blissful with each other, do everything together, and still enjoy dining out. They keep each other young!

Bunny is thankful for her rich and storied life. Who knows? Maybe one day, someone will convince her to write her autobiography. It would be equal parts fascinating, funny, thrilling and captivating.
