With “smashing” success in Runnemede, after less than a year open SmashBros is expanding to a new Glassboro location which opens this Saturday March 1st at 11am. To be clear, Runnemede is staying open and Glassboro is a second location.
SmashBros offers delicious smash burgers, cheesesteaks, wings and more… and with their original 500 square foot Runnemede location they may just be one of the highest-volume restaurants (per square foot) in South Jersey….
As an example of their success so far, the CEO of a large food supplier was chatting with the SmashBros owners “With you’re level of volume, how many locations do you have?”. The brothers replied “Umm.. one… and it’s 500 square feet in size”. (more below).
The brothers who created SmashBros are looking forward to bringing their fresh and delicious food to Glassboro… while also picking up something they don’t have enough of in Runnemede. Space!
Yesterday I caught up with brothers Moe and Fahmi at their ”Opening Very Soon” Glassboro location, and they shared with me the incredible success they’ve achieved in Runnemede, as well as what is new with their much larger Glassboro location.
For Glassboro they take over a space which offers a bigger kitchen, more storage space, more parking… and a dining area which comfortably seats about two dozen customers (which is something they could not offer at Runnemede).
The location is directly on Delsea Drive in a free-standing building in front of the DoubleTree Center (Aldi/Goodwill). Previously the unit was home to Oliver’s Twist restaurant. You can park in front of the restaurant or immediately next door at the TD Bank extended parking area.
Opening day festivities in Glassboro this Saturday feature free Double-Bro burgers to the first 100 customers, an exciting giveaway of a television and video game systems, and the official ribbon cutting.
Yesterday the brothers gave me a full preview of the new Glassboro restaurant which has gotten a full bold remodel featuring bright graphics and art, a wildly fun floor design, hexagon lighting and more.
As you look at the photos here keep in mind that things were only 90% done for my visit… going up this week are wallpaper, televisions and menu ordering screens.
The guys are incredibly excited to bring their fresh and delicious food to Glassboro, but honestly I think there’s as much excitement regarding the design of the new Delsea Drive location and the space that comes along with it.
They credit high quality ingredients, delicious recipes and fair prices for their success.. as well as excellent in-house marketing. Moe says he’d be willing to help other small businesses with their marketing, they just need to reach out!
SmashBros Runnemede – Unprecedented Success
If you aren’t familiar with SmashBros it seems they are doing things VERY right!
I knew the brothers were absolutely crushing it in Runnemede. In fact more than once this past year OTHER restaurant owners have mentioned to me “hey Mark, you hear what’s going on at SmashBros? Those guys are killing-it over there”
But I still wasn’t ready for the stories that Moe and Fahmi were about to tell me!
From a small 500sf building in Runnemede with a kitchen likely half that size, the brothers are hitting sales numbers that a full-service restaurant of 2,500 square feet would love to have.
As an example, Fahmi tells me this past Saturday they sold a record number of burgers… 1,246 burgers total in a single 11-hour day… 113 burgers PER HOUR. Basically a burger every 30 seconds.
I don’t think McDonald’s sells burgers that fast!
And consider at the same time SmashBros is also selling hundreds of cheesesteaks, wings and more.
The brothers also shared with me their sales numbers for the first year (which hasn’t ended yet) and when I compared it to national average store sales for restaurant chains… the sales at the little Runnemede Smash Bros starts getting close to the average store sales of Taco Bell, Wendy’s or Popeyes.
From only 500 square feet… and not even open a year.
That limited space in Runnemede has it’s challenges but there is a plus in that it means the freshest ingredients. There just isn’t room to store more than what is needed for each day!
Consider just those 1,200 burgers means 20 large trays of rolls and hundreds of pounds of beef for one day!
Their beef for example is “prepared” at their supplier the day before and delivered the next morning to SmashBros… which is then making it onto a burger or cheesesteak that same day of delivery. Now that is fresh. And many weekends they get a second delivery for the day!
Another win for that smaller Runnemede location is it really drives Delivery Service sales. Moe and Fahmi tell me that in the area their DoorDash sales are greater than Chick-fil-A and McDonald’s!
It gets better… they say if you added up the DoorDash sales for the FOUR McDonald’s locations closest to SmashBros Runnemede, SmashBros and their 500 square feet beats them all… I mean… all four McDonald’s combined!
And now that delicious food and excitement opens in Glassboro in just four days.
These guys are definitely doing something right.
