Construction is taking place at the former Flying Fish Brewing Co. Somerdale facility, where workers are preparing it for new owner F.W. Webb Plumbing, Heating, HVAC Distributors.
F.W. Webb will use the warehouse building located at 900 Kennedy Blvd as an area distribution location for their product line.
The 150-year old F.W. Webb is the largest wholesale supplier of plumbing, heating, cooling, PVF and Industrial Products in the Northeast… with over 3,000 employees working at 150 different locations.
In New Jersey they have seven locations including Trenton and Egg Harbor Township. Egg Harbor Township also has a retail showroom.
Honestly, new tenants for warehouses is not something I would normally cover, but since Flying Fish Brewing had a retail component with its tasting room at the Somerdale property, as well as at one time being the largest brewery in New Jersey…. I thought I would give an update on what is happening at the Somerdale, NJ warehouse building.
Plus loyal 42Freeway readers have been reaching out.. “hey did you see construction over at…”
And even with the change in building use, you can still buy Flying Fish Beer today!
F.W. Webb Somerdale
A July press release from Commercial Real Estate Company Nai Mertz announced the news that the 44,055 square foot Somerdale building was sold for $6.4 million dollars.
The press release touts the property’s location in Camden County as being ideal for F.W. Webb, providing convenient access to the area’s major highways.
F.W. Webb is working to fully renovate facility, which will provide the necessary warehouse space needed for the area as well as an large fenced outdoor storage area. During my visit this week workers were installing a new roof system.
The press releases goes on to say the building is divided into different sections including a front warehouse space of approximately 10,000 ft. The larger main Warehouse section offers 22 ft ceilings, five loading docks and two drive-in bays. The building also includes an approximately 2,000 square foot office area which supports a bullpen space, conference rooms, two private offices and restrooms.
At this time there is no expected opening date for the facility, and a quick Google search shows they have not posted any job opportunities as of yet.
Flying FIsh Brewing – Somerdale
Flying Fish Brewery was founded in 1996 as a Virtual Brewery which allowed founder Gene Muller to connect to customers directly and build an early fanbase. This support led to the funding which made Gene’s dream to then become a reality when he opened his first Brewery in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.
In 2012 the original brewery had gotten too large for its original spot, and he acquired the large building in Somerdale New Jersey.
About 10 years later things became a little shakier for the brewery finances and sales, and in 2023 it was announced they would be acquired by Cape May Brewing. That deal soon fell through and about 10 months later in early 2024, Flying Fish Brewery officially closed.
The brand was sold to a Maryland Brewery at auction, and all equipment within the facility was sold also to a variety of highest bidders.
The good news is today you can still buy your favorite Flying Fish beers at local liquor stores and bars, as that Baltimore company Guildford Hall Brewery has been using the exact original recipes to keep Flying Fish beers thriving!
