The Sons of Barley Beer Company in Woodbury Heights has set their initial soft opening week schedule, with the first pour coordinated with the Nov 10th Eagles Monday night game… First pour at 4:00 p.m. and staying open until the end of the game.
For the first week they will be open several days (list below) and then starting November 22nd, Sons Of Barley will celebrate the full Grand Opening and start their full 7-Day a week schedule!
42Freeway last covered the story back in August when the owners allowed us in to give readers a preview look of the inside Tasting Room area.
The team has taken the time since then to further develop their beer recipes and brew enough beer to support their full-week Tasting Room Schedule.
At full capacity the brewery has 12 different taps, and while I don’t know if they have all of those varieties available for the opening, I know it was very important for owners Scott and John, as well as Brewer Bob to really give customers an awesome first impression of Sons Of Barley Beer Co.
Their plan also includes alcohol-based seltzer, and with a variety of supplied flavors customers can create their own special recipe of flavored seltzer!
Back in August I told readers the would announce the opening on their Facebook page.. and just yesterday that exact thing happened.
For this initial week, as mentioned they will be open this Monday late afternoon through the Monday night Eagles football game.
They’ll take a day to recuperate from the opening day experience, and reopen on Wednesday from 4:00 to 9:00…. and then reopen for the Fri-Sunday weekend. On November 22nd the full schedule starts.
The location is awesome with great visibility to the busy Route 45 roadway where thousands of commuters drive by. The positioning fills a gap in the center of the Gloucester County Brewery map, which should find a lot of local “regulars” in nearby communities such as West Deptford, Oak Valley Deptford, Wenona, Mantua, Woodbury, Woodbury Heights and more.
The Tasting Room area features 2,000 square feet of space with a large bar seating 14+ people .
Its an open floorplan design that allows them to accommodate about 60 customers in The Tasting Room at one time, and still have plenty of space to feature smaller acoustic music acts, or even just comfortably watching the big game.
The building was originally developed with large windows surrounding the three front main walls, and the design of the new Sons of Barley Beer Company takes advantage of those windows… letting the outside in.
A really cool aspect of the bar is that it is made from thin strips of wood that seemed very familiar to me… it turns out that co-owner Scott is a top-level bowler and has actually thrown FOUR perfect 300 games!
So it was a genius yet perfect idea to use the wood from an actually bowling alley lane to create the bar top at Sons Of Barley. The story gets even better as the bar top wood is lane 11 from the Turnersville Bowlero, a lane where Scott bowled one of his perfect 300 games!
Scott, John and Bob are eager and happy to invite the entire regions beer loving community in to try out Sons of Barley.
But in talking with the guys what I kept hearing over and over again is they really want Sons of Barley to become home to the local community, where everybody feels comfortable in the space with a tasty refreshing beer, making new friends.. and returning again and again.
To that point there is a reason its the “BEER Company” and no Brewery in the name.
Scott likes to say they brew beer, not craft beer. They’re going to have a full variety of beers such as pale ale, ipa, stout… but he really wants to make it so that everything that comes out of the taps is a very drinkable beer, not chasing the latest fad, and have customers return again and again.
