“Always Best is OK but doesn’t seem to make up hours very well. When the caregiver is sick, nobody comes. I would think that they need a little more back up than they have right now. They give me a schedule, and billing is paid by Medicaid.”

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Traer, IA, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your IA's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care Traer, IA

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. A trailer – created by AI – for a non-existent Heidi movie is going viral. For the love of all that’s good and pure, proceed with caution.

In need of some nightmare fuel courtesy of ever-ubiquitous (and our soon-to-be digital overlords) AI?

We here at Euronews Culture can ensure that you’ll never sleep again. Or see Switzerland in the same way.

The enterprising Swiss comedian and film producer Patrick Karpiczenko, known as Karpi (@karpi) asked an AI tool (Gen-2) to generate a trailer for a 'Heidi' movie.

Quick recap for the heathens amongst you: 'Heidi' is a beloved children’s story by Johanna Spyri about a five-year-old girl and her grandfather living in the Swiss Alps. It was first published in 1880 and has become one of the bestselling books of all time, as well as a cinematic staple – most famously with Shirley Temple starring in the 1937 movie. Roughly 25 film or television productions have been made since, and the Japanese animated series became iconic in several countries around the world.

Now, the nostalgic bucolic idyll has gone dark, looking like a Lynchian fever dream or the sequel to Chris Cunningham’s 'Come To Daddy' video for Aphex Twin. It’s as if the artificial intelligence had surreptitiously fed viewers some LSD and invited you into the godless abyss.

Take a look for yourself – but be warned: some things cannot be unseen.

Creepy distorted faces, those grotesque smiles that belong in a body horror movie, torch riots... The less said about the proportionally-challenged animals and whatever that delirious ending is, the better.

The alpine horror was posted on YouTube channel Karpi this week, alongside the word #cursed, and it has received 143k views after 4 days. As of writing, the Twitter post with the video has been viewed by 18.1 million people, who are also facing the very real risk of insomnia.

At least it should assuage some fears, as the AI-generated video is tellingly devoid of humanity, and available AI tools feel lightyears away from generating something akin to human after watching this.

They can, however, ruin your childhood and measure up to some of the best horror out there, as this cursed Heidi trailer may not be the first AI-generated spoof video, but sweet Pazuzu is it comfortably the most disturbing.

Happy weekends, one and all.

n an unexpected twist of creative brilliance, the worlds of Oppenheimer and Barbie have collided, thanks to the ingenious use of artificial intelligence.

Meet "Barbenheimer," a unique cinematic crossover brought to life by the collaborative efforts of a Redditor named Matsky1 and the Midjourney neural network. This extraordinary creation weaves the plot and characters of Oppenheimer with the style and charm of Barbie, resulting in a very interesting concept.

This ultimate mashup blends the story of Robert Oppenheimer, portrayed by the talented Cillian Murphy in the Christopher Nolan film but now portrayed by an AI generated version of Margot Robbie as Barbie, who embarks on nuclear research while donning a fashionable pink hat, embracing the iconic doll's aesthetic.

Joining Barbie in the "Barbenheimer" universe are other beloved characters, each uniquely adapted to the whimsical blend of genres. Matt Damon's character finds himself donning a pink military uniform, blending strength with elegance, while the government official, played by the dashing Robert Downey Jr., radiates impeccable fashion sense. It also features a bizarre version of Ryan Gosling as Ken that looks like another A-list actor.

Barbenheimer' and the impact of Artificial Intelligence in filmmaking

As anticipation builds for the release of Barbie and Oppenheimer, industry experts predict an unprecedented box office success for both films.

The emergence of "Barbenheimer" serves as a testament to the boundless creativity and potential of artificial intelligence. It showcases how AI can not only enrich our lives through innovative solutions but also revolutionize the entertainment industry by fostering unimagined fusions of ideas and concepts. Or at least make a really good meme.

As the release date approaches, fans eagerly await the chance to witness this captivating crossover on the big screen. Prepare to be enchanted by the enchanting world of "Barbenheimer," where the worlds of Oppenheimer and Barbie intertwine in an extraordinary cinematic feat.

Tasha Robinson leads Polygon’s movie coverage. She’s covered film, TV, books, and more for 20 years, including at The A.V. Club, The Dissolve, and The Verge.

Wes Anderson’s aesthetic seems to have fully colonized the minds of people experimenting with AI art generation. Back in December, users of the AI artbot Midjourney went viral on social media with a lengthy series of images imagining movies from Alien to The Shining to Gremlins, as directed by Wes Anderson. Now, the self-described “bunch a goofballs” at the Curious Refuge course-development website have taken that idea to the next step by creating an entire trailer for a theoretical Wes Anderson Star Wars movie, The Galactic Menagerie: A Star Wars Story.

The trailer itself is a fairly crude step up from the original images imagining Wes Anderson’s Star Wars: The movement here is minimal, and it’s mostly just a collection of the same kind of stills that took off in December. Once again, though, Anderson’s visual style proves a perfect target for this kind of pastiche, because his own movies actually often do take this kind of approach, with fixed images or lists of cast members. (Just look at how many of the shots in the trailer for his upcoming Asteroid City are almost still images — although his trailers do typically feature a lot more dialogue than the ersatz Star Wars trailer.)

But the Curious Refuge trailer does represent a step up in ambition for AI art creators, and it suggests the next steps in a rapidly changing field that seems to be generating almost daily controversies and confusion. Significant legal questions have risen around AI art, with already filing a class-action suit against AI artbot developers, and the U.S. Copyright Office declaring that AI art can’t be copyrighted — so anyone could potentially take these pastiches and claim or use them as their own. The step up from individual images to movie trailers might be a different story, since the editing and voiceover involved in a trailer suggests the “human authorship” that the Copyright Office found lacking in individual images.

Just being able to copyright a video doesn’t necessarily mean profiting from it, though. Social-media reactions to the Galactic Menagerie trailer have been decidedly mixed, with some responses praising the ideas, images, and especially the fantasy casting, while others have dismissed it as proof that AI isn’t replacing real writers and directors anytime soon.

This isn’t the first full “in the style of Wes Anderson” trailer: YouTube creators have been making similar projects for years, without the benefit of AI art. Anderson’s distinctive deadpan line delivery, pastel color palettes, specific fonts in a distinctive bright yellow, and precision-focused set decoration have made him a favorite target for “what if” movie pastiches for the last decade, from re-edit artists to original content creators to Saturday Night Live.

In recent weeks, content creators and film fans (as well as intrepid Euronews Culture journalists) have been embracing the trend of making videos that resemble Wes Anderson’s off-beat and hyper-stylized directorial style.

Now, a Star Wars trailer in the style of the director behind The French Dispatch, The Grand Budapest Hotel and Fantastic Mr. Fox has stoked debate among fans of both the indie filmmaker and the treasured space opera series.

The trailer for The Galactic Menagerie was created by the YouTube user Curious Refuge, with the help of an artificial intelligence software – reportedly AI programme Midjourney - to generate the images.

The synopsis for the trailer reads: “Welcome to the Galactic Menagerie, a whimsical and visually stunning fan-made fake trailer that reimagines the classic Star Wars universe through the eccentric lens of Wes Anderson. This enchanting mashup brings together iconic Star Wars characters with Anderson's trademark symmetrical compositions, pastel colour palettes, and quirky humour.”

Yep, sounds written by a machine trying to pass for a human alright.

The trailer does entertainingly mimic Anderson’s signature visual style, as well as offer up a cast list that includes several Anderson regulars.

And it’s here that the pitfalls of AI reveal themselves.

AI programmes are still struggling to properly render and recreate human faces, leading to that ‘uncanny valley’ sensation towards the end of the trailer.

Timothée Chalamet looks like the bastard lovechild of Jason Schwartzmann and Alden Ehrenreich battling an allergic reaction to shellfish; Scarlett Johansson appears to have been replaced by a gormless animatronic doll; Edward Norton is played by a wax figure of Edward Norton which as melted due to close proximity to an overzealously cranked up radiator; and Jeff Goldblum looks like a bequiffed Jeremy Strong who has undergone buccal fat removal.

In all fairness, the AI fairs better with Bill Murray and Willem Dafoe, who look just about human. As for casting Adrien Brody as Chewbacca and Owen Wilson doing his trademark ‘Wow’ in a Darth Vader voice, it's hard not to applaud.

Take a look at the video for yourself:

Since the mock trailer was published on Saturday 29 April, it has racked up more than 300,000 views on YouTube and upwards of one million views on Twitter.

Many have responded with enthusiasm, with the most love found on YouTube.

One fan wrote: “I want to see this so much more than any contemporary official Star Wars project.”

“Wow, I need this in my life – this would be actually fun to watch,” wrote another, while someone else added: “The detail in this is astounding. I actually thought this was a Wes Anderson short. Very, very well done!”

There are those, however, who aren’t convinced. And they seem to be in the majority.

Taking to Twitter, one critic said: “An artificial intelligence will never be able to grasp the sincerity of the emotions, expression and humanity painted onto the screen by Wes Anderson. All ai is capable of is mocking how an image is structured. It has no comprehension of Mise-En-Scène. It does not feel.”

Another claimed that “the lack of humanity, artistry, and soul is almost tangible” in the video, while another Twitter user highlighted the reductive pitfalls of this trend: “I love that the entirety of Wes Anderson’s films can apparently be boiled down to pastel colours, symmetrical framing and Futura font. Must be wonderful to have your entire career become a meme.”

Another take read: “You robbed both Star Wars and Wes Anderson films of what makes them charming and unique with this AI crap. Congratulations.”

Corroborating was the following conclusion: “Tell me you understand neither Star Wars nor Wes Anderson without telling me.”

One more added, diplomatically: “Very cool as a concept… But whoever made this has no idea what makes either Star Wars or Wes Anderson movies great.”

While debate rages on, three more (real) Star Wars movies have been confirmed, although none of them will be directed by Anderson.

However, fans of the director can console themselves, as Anderson’s new film, Asteroid City, not only has a galactic theme but gets released soon after its Cannes premiere. ETA: 23 June 2023.

So, do you love or hate the mock Star Wars trailer? Should Lucasfilm snap up Wes Anderson for a future Star Wars project?

Or should we collectively steer ourselves back to saner shores by recognizing that this is just a fan-made trailer, deep-breath, everything’s fine, and that while we should keep a watchful eye on the ever-worrying progresses of AI in art, in this case there are more pressing things to worry about. Like the upcoming Exorcist remake / reboot from the makers of the new Halloween trilogy, for example. While keeping an open mind, I for one would very much like to see that project jettisoned to a galaxy far, far away…

Poor Wes Anderson. The filmmaker must rue the day the masses were able to use artificial intelligence to create tribute content that mimicked his signature visual style.

The latest piece of Anderson-like content to go viral is a trailer for The Galactic Menagerie, a YouTube clip created by the Curious Refuge channel. The trailer wonders what a Star Wars film would look like if Anderson had directed it, and features a lot of supposed traits that the filmmaker is known for, including symmetry, pastel colors, sardonic narration, painstaking attention to detail and offbeat humor. The mock cast also includes Anderson regulars Scarlett Johansson, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Murray, Adrien Brody, Willem Defoe, Ed Norton, Timothée Chalamet and Owen Wilson as Darth Vader.

The Galactic Menagerie was posted on April 29, but reposted by various accounts on Twitter on Sunday where it has been seen and liked by millions and commented on by thousands. Some of the feedback has been positive, with Twitter users keen on Anderson directing a Star Wars film for real, with some wags suggesting that it can’t be any worse than the recent films produced by Disney/Lucasfilm.

Among the positive comments, Twitter user @JBufford3 wrote, “Completely tracks and I would watch that. So good.” “I would watch this. I’ve always wanted to see what Wes Anderson would bring to genre fare outside his usual material. Would love to see him direct an episode of Star Wars or the new Harry Potter series,” wrote @GWinssinger.

However, much of the reaction has been negative, with many suggesting the trailer misses the point of both Star Wars and Anderson’s works and still more people are highly critical of the use of A.I. to generate this type of content.

“You robbed both Star Wars and Wes Anderson films of what makes them charming and unique with this AI crap. Congratulations,” tweeted @doctorbaixue. @heathdwilliams tweeted, “Tell me you understand neither Star Wars nor Wes Anderson without telling me.”

In an impassioned tweet, @funEman_ wrote, “An artificial intelligence will never be able to grasp the sincerity of the emotions, expression and humanity painted onto the screen by Wes Anderson. All ai is capable of is mocking how an image is structured. It has no comprehension of Mise-En-Scène. It does not feel.”

“Videos like this are honestly a great showcase for why completely A.I.-generated films won’t work. It knows to replicate the center framing and pastel color scheme of Anderson’s work but it doesn’t get why those things are used when they are, leading to ugly purposeless images,” tweeted user @GreatCheshire.

And @firagawalkwthme tweeted, “You know A.I. art people dont understand Wes Anderson because if he ever made a Star Wars he’d kill Chewbacca.”

Previously, Anderson’s style has been used to create A.I.-generated images related to Harry Potter, famous athletes and world leaders.
