It was a WILD weather day yesterday (Tuesday, December 9th) in North Dakota.
The state saw a wide array of weather conditions, including very, very strong winds that were gusting near 60 miles per hour, snow that accumulated as high as 10 inches in one city, freezing rain that turned our roads in central North Dakota into a "Holiday on Ice" show, and even good old rain, which was rather unusual for December.
Snowfall totals across North Dakota (According to the NWS Snow Desk):
Grand Forks (NWS) received 6.3 inches of snow.
East Grand Forks, MN received 8.0 inches of snow.
Walhala received 6.0 inches of snow.
Grafton received 10.0 inches of snow.
Bottineau received 1.5 inches of snow.
Lankin received 2.0 inches of snow.
Devils Lake received 2.0 inches of snow.
Jamestown received 1.0 inches of snow.
Fargo received 4.3 inches of snow.
As you can see from above, this snow system was mostly confined to northeast North Dakota. 10 inches in Grafton is pretty impressive for a clipper system.
Another round of winter for much of North Dakota is expected this evening into your Thursday.
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for most of our listening area from 6 pm tonight until 6 pm Thursday evening. Freezing rain and snow expected. Total snow accumulations from 1 to 4 inches and ice accumulations around one-tenth of an inch.
This system could definitely impact your Thursday commute with slippery road conditions, much like what happened on Tuesday.
After that, get ready for some good ol' fashioned deep freeze, as this storm system will usher in very cold temperatures and wind chills for the weekend. Parts of North Dakota will see overnight lows around 20 below zero. We are looking at lows closer to the teens below zero in Bismarck.
The Capital Region will see another round of snow Friday night into Saturday morning.
Put another log on the fire, it could be a bumpy and chilly ride the next few days.
