George William “Bill” Morgan, Jr., age 92, of Greensboro, NC, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family and entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 24, 2025.
He was born on June 22, 1933 in Newport News, Virginia at Riverside Hospital to the late George William Morgan, Sr. and Myrtle Ballew Morgan.
On April 10, 1953, at the age of 19, he enlisted and served four years in the United States Air Force. Part of that time was during the Korean War. His last assigned post was in North Africa as a member of the Aircraft Control and Warning Division. After completing four years of active service, he served four additional years of reserve duty and was honorably discharged in 1961.
After completing his military service, he was employed in management in hardware and building supply for many years. He officially retired in 2010 from Morgan Hauling, Inc., as owner-operator at the age of 77.
Bill had his Private Pilot’s License and always enjoyed flying throughout his life. He also enjoyed building and flying scale radio-controlled model airplanes. The highlight of his summer was vacationing at the family cottage at Topsail Beach.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 64 years, Emily Betts Morgan and his children, Melanie McBride and her husband, Steve, Scott Morgan and his wife, Kim and Justin Morgan and his wife, Carrie. Affectionately known as Papa, he was blessed with and leaves behind his three grandchildren, Ashley, Rebeccah and husband, James and Leo. In addition, he leaves behind his brother, Donald Morgan.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, George William Morgan, Sr. and Myrtle Ballew Morgan; his grandson, Joshua Steven McBride and his sister, Judith Morgan Butler.
A graveside service will be held at Dr. Clyde M. Gilmore Memorial Park, 6500 Liberty Road, Julian, NC at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025 officiated by Reverend Thomas Bounds. Visitation will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bill’s memory to Samaritan’s Purse, Authoracare Collective of Greensboro or charity of your choice.
