“I cannot say enough good things about this company and the caregivers they provided after my mom's recent accident and stay in a rehab facility. The staff were constantly in communication with us keeping us abreast of any little or big updates. Their attitudes were always helpful and they seemed to genuinely care. The caregivers they sent to sit with and take care of mom were EXCELLENT. I'm not sure how many different caregivers she had over the few weeks of her stay but there wasn't a single one that wasn't kind and extremely helpful. It took a tremendous load off of everyone in our family knowing that she was being well cared for when we couldn't be there. Thank you to Brandi, Joanne, Gina, and anyone I'm missing for everything you all did for us from the beginning of the process all the way to my mom's release today. Hopefully, we won't need your services again, but if we do, I know who I will be calling!”

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local HAWTHORNE WOOD or visit Fort Fisher State Historic Site, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in King, NC, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your NC's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in King, NC understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Home Care King, NC

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
Home Care King, NC

At Always Best Care, our representatives can match your senior's emotional, physical, and financial needs with viable assisted living communities nearby. Results are based on comparative data, so you can select the best choice for you or your loved one.

Always Best Care works closely with local senior living communities to gain valuable knowledge that we then use to help seniors and their loved ones make informed decisions. This information can include basic care and rent, resident availability, and services provided. Because Always Best Care is compensated by these communities, we provide senior living referral services at no extra cost to you.

Some of the most popular assisted living communities to consider in our area include the following:

  • Priddy Manor Assisted Living Memory Care
  • Mountain Valley Assisted Living
  • Village Care of King
  • Graceland Living Center
  • Rose Tara Senior Living
  • Summit Place of Kings Mountain
Home Care King, NC

For many seniors, moving into a senior living community revolves around how and when they want to make a transition to more involved care. Some seniors are more proactive about transitioning to independent living. Others choose to remain home until their care needs or other requirements are satisfied. Remember - our staff is here to help. Contact our office today to learn more about assisted living communities and how we can find a facility that exceeds your expectations.

N.C. Highway 12 remains closed between the Marc Basnight Bridge at Oregon Inlet and Rodanthe on Monday morning, as elevated tides and continued coastal flooding complicate repairs near the Pea Island Visitor Center, where more than 1,100 feet of pavement has been damaged.

The highway has been closed since last week, with no estimated reopening date, although the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) reported Sunday that crews had begun removing damaged pavement near the visitor center while continuing preparations to rebuild protective dunes.

Meanwhile, a new emergency ferry park-and-ride service is scheduled to begin Monday, offering Hatteras Island residents and other eligible travelers an alternative to potentially long vehicle boarding lines at the Rodanthe and Stumpy Point ferry terminals.

The National Weather Service (NWS) Newport/Morehead City office is also warning that coastal flooding and beach erosion could continue through Thursday, with king tides expected to peak Tuesday and Wednesday.

In its latest update Sunday, NCDOT reported that approximately 1,100 feet of N.C. 12 pavement had been damaged near the Pea Island Visitor Center, where repeated ocean overwash and extensive dune erosion have left the highway impassable.

Crews began removing damaged pavement Sunday morning, marking an initial step toward repairing the highway.

NCDOT is also working to restore protective dunes in the Canal Zone and stockpiling sand near the Pea Island Visitor Center, where additional dune fortification will begin as soon as tidal conditions allow.

However, continuous flooding and standing water remain significant obstacles to the work, and additional overwash could cause further damage before repairs are completed.

The department has not announced when the highway might reopen.

N.C. 12 remains open and passable south of Rodanthe through Hatteras Village and on Ocracoke Island.

A new park-and-ride service is scheduled to begin Monday, Oct. 26, providing travelers with the option to park their vehicles near the Rodanthe or Stumpy Point ferry terminals and board the emergency ferries as passengers rather than waiting in the vehicle boarding lines.

Dare County shuttle vans will transport passengers between designated parking areas and the ferry terminals Monday through Friday, from 4:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The designated parking locations are the Rodanthe Beach Access at 3731 N.C. Highway 12 in Rodanthe and Pointers Field at 98 Bayview Drive in Stumpy Point.

Vehicles may remain in these parking areas for extended periods, allowing travelers to leave a vehicle on each side of the ferry route and avoid transporting their vehicles across the sound for every trip.

The new service comes as travelers continue to experience extended waits at both emergency ferry terminals, where limited vehicle capacity has complicated travel between Hatteras Island and the mainland.

According to NCDOT’s Sunday morning update, the emergency ferry service had transported nearly 1,800 people and 1,100 vehicles since operations began Thursday morning, Oct. 22.

The ferries are also transporting groceries, mail, fuel, and other essential supplies.

Although the park-and-ride option is intended to reduce the need for vehicle boarding, ferry capacity remains limited, and travelers are encouraged to postpone nonessential trips.

Additional information about the service is available at DareNC.gov/Storm.

The National Weather Service has extended Coastal Flood Advisories through Thursday as persistent northeast winds and unusually high astronomical tides continue to threaten portions of the Outer Banks and eastern North Carolina.

The advisories cover the Outer Banks, Crystal Coast, and areas along the Neuse, Bay, Pamlico, and Pungo rivers. The advisory area was also expanded to include Beaufort County based on forecast water levels and reports of flooding.

According to the latest NWS briefing, issued Sunday afternoon, minor oceanside and soundside flooding is occurring or expected across portions of the Outer Banks, with the greatest impacts anticipated on Hatteras Island.

Forecasters expect approximately 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level in vulnerable oceanside and soundside locations along the Outer Banks, including portions of Hatteras and Ocracoke islands.

Across portions of the Crystal Coast and inland rivers, water levels could reach 1 to 3 feet above ground level.

Although northeast winds are expected to diminish by Monday evening, the highest astronomical tides are expected Tuesday and Wednesday, meaning coastal flooding could continue even after winds and seas begin to decrease.

The NWS forecasts moderate oceanside coastal impacts for Hatteras and Ocracoke islands through at least Wednesday.

Soundside flooding concerns are expected to increase Monday afternoon, with potentially high impacts across portions of the broader Outer Banks, Crystal Coast, and inland river areas Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

The NWS also warned that continued wave action could cause additional beach erosion, with greater impacts possible along Hatteras Island because of already weakened protective dunes.

The next high tides are expected around 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday, 8:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. Tuesday, 9:30 a.m. and 10 p.m. Wednesday, and 10 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

These times are based on the Duck tide station, and actual high tide times may vary elsewhere along the Outer Banks. Soundside high tides may occur several hours later.

The NWS is expected to continue issuing updated coastal flooding briefings daily through at least the current event.

Dare County’s state of emergency and mandatory evacuation for Hatteras Island visitors remain in effect, and no date has been announced for resuming visitor entry.

Entry to Hatteras Island remains limited to individuals who qualify under Dare County’s Priority One, Priority Two, or Priority Three reentry categories and present the required documentation.

Hyde County residents may also use the emergency ferry to travel through Hatteras Island to Ocracoke with documentation verifying their eligibility.

Visitors are not permitted to enter Hatteras Island while restrictions remain in place.

Priority ferry boarding requests are being considered individually for urgent or time-sensitive needs, including medical appointments, procedures, treatments, and other extenuating circumstances.

Approval is not guaranteed, and a separate request is required for each direction of travel.

No evacuation has been ordered for Hatteras Island residents or areas north of Oregon Inlet.

For current highway conditions, visit DriveNC.gov. Emergency ferry schedules are available through the NCDOT Ferry Division, and additional information about emergency ferry travel, park-and-ride service, and entry restrictions is available at DareNC.gov/Storm and DareNC.gov/Reentry.

NC State safety King Mack discusses his time in Raleigh, the start of fall camp, and much more with the media.

On having played for three different schools…

Experience. Being able to experience different programs, different coaches. So, you have the mentality to learn all over again. So, I knew once I came back, I had to learn all over again. And also taking freshmen and showing them the way.

What's it been like to be reunited with your high school teammates or high school opponents?

It's crazy because Chance (Robinson) and I went to high school together. I was a pound above him, JoJo Trader, CJ Bailey, and Davion Gause. Seeing all of them, it's crazy. Every day, every time I see them, it’s like Ravenspark all over again. It's wonderful. It's great to have; it's a family-oriented team.

A lot of people knew each other for a while. So, I feel like that's so important because once we go on the field on Saturday, you're playing for somebody. You can't tell them they're not going to give it your all.

Especially when you know their background, you know where they came from. You know their why. Once you know their why, it definitely gives you a reason to go hard.

Do you have a favorite memory of playing together in high school or playing against each other?

Winning. Winning is my favorite memory. Winning. Holding that trophy. Watching them hold the trophy when they won it. It was one year, actually. My pal won the Super Bowl, and their pal won the Super Bowl. They played right after us. No, right before us.

We played after them. We've been winners since we were young.

What's your best story of watching CJ growing up? Seeing him as a quarterback.

See, what a lot of people don't know, CJ is very, very physical. So, I literally coach. Like now, in college, there's no hidden quarterback. Always there's a quarterback. CJ, CJ was one of those quarterbacks, where he's not trying to juke you.

Yeah, he's the tallest, so he's not going to try to steal from you. He's going to run you over. That's why I tell everyone out there, don't get CJ in the state. He got in the tank. I've seen it.

Did you get run over?

No, sir.

If we asked him that, would he say the same thing?

If I got run over? Knowing CJ, he's going to say he would. Ain't nobody beat his confidence. That's why he's the best quarterback. CJ's the most confident person I’ve ever known. Bet on himself every time.

Did your eyes light up when you saw your speed rating for a video game?

It didn’t, honestly. I know what I ran in the 40s, so I wasn't shocked. I know the numbers I put on the catapult. It's not shocking.

What was your best 100-meter dash?

My best 100 in high school was a 10- no, 10-5. I was really a 400 right there in high school. I was a 400 state champ.

How much did having CJ and the other guys here help you decide to transfer here, or did that not really play into evaluating what NC State had to offer?

Honestly, once I had that conversation with Coach Doeren, because I talked to CJ after the fact. Once I had that conversation with Coach Doeren, he told me, "I'm tired of coming in second." I want to win, so I'm going to get whoever I need to get to win.

There's no arguing or going against that. At the end of the day, we all have the same goal. That's to win. I sat down and talked to him, and he told me that CJ's going to be leading us. Why not? That's no second question.

It's basically home now. I came here, and it was open arms. It wasn't- I'd say this was probably the most- No, it was the most easiest transition I've ever had. The easiest transition.

Is part of that because things are so stable here, where maybe things were not as stable the last couple of years at other schools?

Stability, definitely. Also, it's the chip on their shoulder. Coach Doeren, he makes us have a chip on our shoulder. That chip that- oh, sorry. That chip on our shoulder that he instills into us, that's what's going to make us so great.

Coach Eliot was talking about you walking into a stadium, no big deal. You played in front of 100,000 people. What is that like when you try to convey to the younger players what a game day experience is like?

I always tell them this is the same game you've been playing since you were young. The only difference is that it's a crowd. It's more audience. I always tell them, don't panic. That same player we were in high school, that same star we were in high school, it's the same sport.

Nothing changed about the sport. It's more- first, it's someone who's just as good as you. Second, it's more IQ. You gotta have a higher IQ. You can't just go out there and rely on talent. Skill, technique, understanding the game, and understanding concepts.

I tell all the freshmen all the time, listen, bro, don't come into college and don't let it overwhelm you. Attack it. Attack it. Why not? You're not.

You're obviously the oldest guy in there, but a lot of the guys who played last year- how cool has it been for you to see those guys kind of develop and just keep getting better? Whether it's Ronnie, Brody, or guys like that.

We have a very, very talented safety room. From the freshmen up, Chino Aguirre, Pluto Surratt, we got a lot of talent in that room. It's a great experience.

Just even watching the film from last year and seeing how young they were, and they were able to just go out there and make it happen. It shows you, right back to what I said before, it's the same game. It's a different crowd.

They were able to go out there last year, and they played well. They did, honestly. I'm confident in my room. I'm confident in Coach Warren's coaching. I have no doubts.

Did you have any past relationships with Coach Warren?

Yes. Coach Warren actually recruited me out of high school when he was at UNC. I would say I got two people.

On players in the secondary who stand out...

Jackson Vick and Ronnie Royal. The reason I say that is Jackson is him and me; he's a vet. He's a vet, so he understands the game.

He's got that experience. You can't tell Ronnie he can't do anything. Ronnie would look at a brick wall, and you're like, there's no way he's going to run through this brick wall.

He's going to run through the brick wall and show you how to run through the brick wall. Then he's going to go up to you out there and say I told you. Ronnie and Vick, those two right there, those two, they saw me when I got here.

Did you see that on the film when you watched how Ronnie was playing last year?

Oh yeah, Ronnie a hitter. Ronnie is a hitter; he is a playmaker.
