EAST GREENSBORO, N.C. (March 17, 2025) – North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and Wake Forest University School of Law have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) establishing a pathway for highly accomplished N.C. A&T students to matriculate into the Wake Forest University School of Law full-time residential J.D. program.
The inaugural cohort of two A&T students – a current senior and an alumnus – have been selected and will enroll at Wake Forest Law in fall 2025.
A&T will identify two promising candidates by Feb. 1 each year for subsequent fall admission to the J.D. program at Wake Forest Law. Candidates can be current A&T seniors or alumni, but they must have at least a 156 score on the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) and a minimum cumulative 3.50 undergraduate G.P.A. as calculated by the Law School Admission Council. They also must have good character and fitness to study and practice law, as determined by Wake Forest Law.
Candidates admitted through the partnership are awarded a minimum $35,000 per year scholarship. This program does not preclude other A&T students from applying and being accepted to Wake Forest Law.
“We are proud to partner with Wake Law to establish a direct pathway for select A&T students to matriculate at its prestigious law school,” said C. Dinitra White, Ph.D., Pre-Professional Scholars Program director and associate professor of biology. “We want to increase awareness of the law profession, help remove barriers for students interested in pursuing a law career and help produce a more robust pathway into the profession. Further, strengthening our relationships with our partner institutions brings together exceptional expertise that benefits everyone.”
The A&T/Wake Forest Law partnership aims to prepare high-achieving scholars and legal professionals who are engaged in innovative solutions and committed to the cause of justice. The universities intend to create a richly diverse, equitable and inclusive community where students further develop respect for the law, a devotion to service and a commitment to professional values. Graduates will be equipped to manage and create change in increasingly complex environments, communicate across differences, and bring about lasting, meaningful solutions supported by the rule of law. The ultimate goal is to have a positive impact at local, state, national and global levels.

The A&T/Wake Forest Law pathway program is among those offered by A&T’s Pre-Professional Scholars Program (PPSP), a comprehensive, institutionally supported program established in 2009 that supports educational and professional development of undergraduate and graduate students interested in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, law and research. Increasing students’ exposure to these professions is a PPSP priority focused on strengthening existing relationships with professional and graduate degree-granting institutions, supporting professional student organizations, identifying local professionals to serve as mentors and resources, and forming novel relationships with various universities and community partners.
In addition to providing select, high-achieving students a direct pathway into graduate and professional schools, these partnerships provide opportunities for cross-campus collaborations, potential partnerships for research funding, wider exposure for students and faculty to other campuses and their offerings, and opportunities to collaborate on advancing student success. Since its inception, approximately 50 students from the Early Assurance Scholars premedical program and Accelerated Pathway to Law School prelaw programs have been admitted to graduate and professional schools through the PPSP.
The MOU with Wake Forest Law is the third such partnership between A&T and other J.D. programs across the state. The university has accelerated pathway partnerships with Greensboro-based Elon Law and Durham-based North Carolina Central University School of Law.

The final week of the regular season is upon us in college basketball.
This week will be the last week to try and get the best position for the conference tournaments starting next week. The ACC has perhaps the best team in the nation, but they don't appear to be getting many teams in the NCAA Tournament unless something changes over the next couple of weeks.
For Georgia Tech, they have continued to play well over the last month and dominated NC State yesterday in a 25-point win. Heading into this last week, Georgia Tech is the No. 8 seed in the ACC Tournament, but they still have a narrow path to the No. 7 spot. For that, Georgia Tech will have to beat both Miami and Wake Forest this week while having Stanford lose to both Notre Dame and Louisville. The Cardinal got a big win over SMU last night and dealt a blow to Georgia Tech's hopes of moving up.
Duke remains at No. 1 for now as they continue to blow out teams. They face Wake Forest and North Carolina to finish the season and can finish with the top spot if they win out.
If Duke were to stumble, Louisville and Clemson are waiting. The Tigers and Cardinals both avoided upsets yesterday and appear like locks to be in the NCAA Tournament.
There is currently a three-way tie for the No. 4 spot and the last double-bye into the quarterfinals. Wake Forest, SMU, and North Carolina are all tied for the spot and Stanford is at 11-7 and a potential spoiler.
Virginia Tech currently holds the last bye in the Tournament, but they finish with North Carolina and Clemson. It seems unlikely that Virginia Tech will remain there, but Mike Young's team has been resilient this year.
Florida State, Virginia, and Pitt are all 7-11 and fighting to move up in the standings this last week. Syracuse, Cal and Notre Dame are all 6-12 and appear to be safe while NC State, Boston College, and Miami would be left out if the Tournament started today

According to ESPN Bracketologist Joe Lunardi's latest projections, the ACC has three teams in the NCAA Tournament. North Carolina, SMU and Wake Forest are not among that group, although a strong finish to the regular season and some wins in the ACC Tournament could move them into the field of 68.
North Carolina is currently one of Lunardi's First Four Out while SMU and Wake Forest are in the Next Four Out. In a conference that has three bids as of now from Duke, Clemson and Louisville, plus a lack of depth from top to bottom, that makes it even tougher to convince the selection committee.
The Tar Heels have strung together a four-game winning streak to build some much-needed momentum. Unfortunately, those four wins have come against teams in the bottom half of the league standings (Syracuse, NC State, Virginia, Florida State).
North Carolina (18-11, 11-6 ACC) only has one Quad 1 win all season and has a NET ranking of 45. For a storied program that finished runner-up to Kansas in the 2021-22 season, this would mark the second time in the last three seasons the Tar Heels failed to reach the NCAA Tournament unless something changes down the stretch.
It has been a solid debut season in the ACC for the SMU Mustangs (21-7, 12-5 ACC). If you just look at the record, you would think SMU is tournament-bound and solidly in the field, but that isn't the case. Although the Mustangs have a NET ranking of 42, their weak schedule does them no favor whatsoever. SMU has only played five Quad 1 opponents and lost each game. With 15 games against Quad 3 and 4 competition and no signature wins on the resume, SMU may need to run the table in the ACC Tournament to hear its name called on Selection Sunday.
Wake Forest (19-9, 11-6 ACC) has two Quad 1 wins and five more against Quad 2 teams, but a poor NET ranking (71) has the Demon Deacons the lowest among the three ACC schools. A massive road test at No. 2 Duke awaits on March 3 for the Demon Deacons. If they can pull the upset against the Blue Devils and add another quality win to the resume, they would have as strong a case as any program on the bubble.
While SMU will likely have to rely on its performance in the ACC Tournament regardless due to a lack of quality opponents remaining on its schedule, North Carolina and Wake Forest each face Duke before the regular season concludes. That puts even more pressure on the teams to win those other games and avoid adding another bad loss to the resume.
Compared to fellow bubble teams like SEC programs Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Georgia, the road looks even more difficult if you consider the overall depth of the SEC. Due to the strength of the SEC, that means a higher likelihood of a loss, but ample opportunities to pick up another signature win, either in the regular season or SEC Tournament.
What each of the ACC bubble teams need is to take care of business by either defeating quality opponents or avoiding any bad losses and hope their are not many bid stealers during the conference tournaments. If any spots get taken ahead of them and the SEC bubble teams finish strong, it would be difficult to put either of the ACC schools in on resume alone.
With so much taking shape this time of year as teams prepare for tournament play, nothing is guaranteed. As North Carolina, SMU and Wake Forest live on the bubble for the next couple weeks, the opportunity is there for each of them to be dancing or on the outside looking in when all is said and done. Their performances to close out the regular season and in the ACC Tournament will go a long way in deciding their fate, however probable or unlikely their tournament hopes may seem at this point.

The portal season’s opening arrived a week later this season, moving from just after the NCAA Tournament selection day until the day following the tournament’s second round.
Only four teams remain in the national title picture after Sunday, and the number of announcements is likely to pick up as more teams enter the offseason.
The portal closes on April 22, that marks the end of the time when undergrads to enter their names in the portal. Players don’t have to chose their new schools by that date.
With Duke still alive in the NCAA Tournament, players from N.C. State, Wake Forest and North Carolina are able to make moves before the any Blue Devils who wish to depart.
N.C. State’s new coach, Will Wade, is already working to rebuild the Wolfpack roster, as are UNC coach Hubert Davis and Wake Forest coach Steve Forbes.
UNC had one of the first major defections when point guard Elliot Cadeau entered the portal and soon announced he was committed to Michigan. The Tar Heels have picked up a commitment from forward Jonathan Powell, who left West Virginia after his freshman year, On3 sports reported.

Ben Middlebrooks: The former transfer from Clemson spent two years with the Pack and helped NCSU win the 2024 ACC championship and reach the 2024 NCAA Final Four. The 6-10 forward averaged 7.5 points and 4.2 rebounds this past season.
Dennis Parker Jr.: The sophomore forward averaged 2.9 points and 2.3 rebounds in 29 games for the Pack this season. The former 4-star recruit from Richmond, Va.., started 12 games during the 2023-24 season but none this season.
Marcus Hill: The Pack’s leading scorer, who averaged 11.5 points a game in his first season at NCSU, is back in the portal. The 6-4 senior guard came to State from Bowling Green., where he was a first-team All-MAC selection.
Mike James: The 6-5 junior guard transferred to NCSU from Louisville after last season but never was able to be cleared medically to play and was redshirted this season. Averaged 12.6 points for the Cardinals in 2023-24.
Bryce Heard: The 6-5 freshman guard from Chicago didn’t play any more than nine minutes in any ACC game in his lone season with the Wolfpack. He played in 24 games, averaging just 1.2 points.
Ismael Diouf: The junior forward from Canada saw little playing time, averaging 2.2 points and 1.4 rebounds in 18 games.

Davin Cosby: Having started his career at Alabama before transferring to Wake this season, the 6-5 sophomore guard appeared in 17 games for the Deacs, averaging 5.6 points while making just 35% of his shots from the field. He started nine games early but only appeared as a reserve in three of Wake’s final 18 games.
Parker Friedrichsen: A 6-4 sophomore, he played in all but one game Wake Forest this season but posted pedestrian statistics, averaging 3.2 points while making only 25% of his 3-pointers. After scoring 18 points in a 77-66 win at SMU on Feb. 15, Friedrichsen scored only nine points the rest of the season.
UPDATE: Friedrichsen has announced he will play next season at Davidson.
Ty-Laur Johnson: A primary ballhandler for Wake this season, the Brooklyn native moved into the starting lineup for ACC play. He started Wake’s final 19 games, finishing with season averages of 6.1 points and 2.7 assists per game.
Mason Hagedorn: He redshirted this past season as a freshman and has yet to see any playing time.

Elliot Cadeau: The point guard has had inconsistent play in his two seasons at UNC with his shooting, ballhandling and inability to stay out of foul trouble. He arrived a year earlier than planned in 2023 and has two years of eligibility remaining..

Jalen Washington: The forward has had some big moments for the Heels this season, including game-sealing block against NC State, but saw his role decline as Ven-Allen Lubin and Jae’Lyn Withers were starters down the stretch and in NCAAs.

Jonathan Powell: The 6-6 forward is transferring to UNC from West Virginia, where he averaged 8.3 points and 3.1 rebounds as as freshman this season, according to On3 sports. Powell was the Big 12 leader among freshmen with 64 made 3-pointers.
