Elysian Fields got a three point win over Hawkins, while Beckville knocked off Harleton 28-12.Elysian Fields head coach Justin Crow is in his third season with the Jackets. The first two years, Elysian Fields won four games combined. This season they’ve already matched their win total from the past two seasons....
BECKVILLE, Texas (KLTV) - The Beckville Bearcats and the Elysian Fields Yellowjackets both bring 4-0 records into Friday night’s Game of the Week.
District 10-2A Division 1 began district play a week ago. Elysian Fields got a three point win over Hawkins, while Beckville knocked off Harleton 28-12.
Elysian Fields head coach Justin Crow is in his third season with the Jackets. The first two years, Elysian Fields won four games combined. This season they’ve already matched their win total from the past two seasons.
“We had big expectations,” Crow said. “The kids have done a great job of really just fulfilling those expectations.”
Elysian Fields has had back-to-back weeks of three point victories and Crow believes that’s part of taking the program to the next level.
“Those tight games and battling through and winning those,” said Crow. “Really showed us that we can do those things and really is helping take our program to the next level.”
Crow has seen the success Beckville has had recently and just wants to get his program to that same level.
“Their kids are well coached and their kids have that expectation to win,” Crow said. “So, everything we’re trying to do with our program is trying to get to where they are.”
For the Beckville and head coach Cody Ross, the Bearcats are looking for their fifth straight double-digit win season. Ross knows his team has a target on their back.
“It’s been a battle. It’s been a grind,” Ross said. “We’re going to get everybody’s best and we’re going to have to grind through it.”
Ross has been most impressed with his team’s grit this year and how they just won’t quit.
“Each and every week we’ve been undersized and that hasn’t stopped us any,” said Ross. “Impressed with the fact that our team doesn’t have any quit in them.”
Ross has been impressed with the job that Crow is doing at Elysian Fields.
“He’s seeing some fruits of his labor and he should be,” Ross said. “Those kids are playing extremely well right now and playing extremely hard.”
Since 2004, these two teams have met six times. Elysian Fields has won four of those six meetings, but Beckville has won the last two in 2023 and 2022.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Friday at R.C. Beauchamp Stadium in Beckville.
