Royal currently attends Brother Martin High School in New Orleans. He finished the 2025 regular season with 1,151 yards and 17 touchdowns on 53 receptions.

Brother Martin's season ended with a 38-27 loss to Alexandria Senior High on Nov. 21 in the regional round. Royal did everything in his power to help the Crusaders by scoring three touchdowns in defeat.

The only receivers ranked ahead of Royal in the 2027 class are Jamier Brown, who is committed to Ohio State, and Monshun Sales.

It's still very early in the 2027 recruiting cycle, making Royal the first commitment head coach Steve Sarkisian and his staff have secured.

The Longhorns have a good incoming class in 2026, led by 5-star athlete Jermaine Bishop and quarterback Dia Bell.

Texas rebounded after a slow start this season to finish the regular season 9-3, capped off with a victory over Texas A&M on Friday that ended the Aggies' undefeated hopes.

There is still a chance the Longhorns make the College Football Playoff, but it would likely require a lot of things going right since they were ranked No. 16 in the most recent top 25 released on Tuesday.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound wide receiver is from Brother Martin High School in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Royal is the No. 7 overall prospect and No. 1 wide receiver in the class of 2027, according to the Rivals industry ranking. He also ranks as the No. 1 prospect in the state of Louisiana.

In his junior season, Royal recorded 53 catches for 1,151 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns. It was another spectacular season after his breakout sophomore campaign, where he totaled 1,149 all-purpose yards and 14 touchdowns in 12 games.

It was a massive recruiting win for the Longhorns, continuing their momentum from Friday night's win over No. 3 Texas A&M. Royal was the first commitment in the 2027 recruiting class for Texas. He was on an unofficial visit for Friday night's win.

In an interview with Rivals' Sam Spiegelman, Royal highlighted his relationship with wide receivers coach Chris Jackson.

"Coach Jackson has shown me how he develops his guys, and he and Coach Sark love speedy guys like me," Royal said. "All of the receivers that come through Texas are insanely fast guys."

Royal wasn't the only recruiting win for the Longhorns after Friday's win. The Longhorns also flipped four-star defensive lineman Jamarion Carlton from Baylor. His commitment moved the Longhorns' 2026 class to No. 7 nationally and No. 3 in the SEC.

In the 2026 class, the Longhorns hold commitments from five-star quarterback Dia Bell, five-star EDGE Richard Wesley, and five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson.

With the win over Texas A&M, the Longhorns finish the regular season at 9-3 overall, 6-2 in the SEC. Texas is still alive for the College Football Playoff, but may need some help during conference championship weekend.

You won’t find playmakers much more dynamic than Royal in the 2027 class. When you watch him on tape, it is very clear he is by far the best player on the field. He ran a verified 10.38 100M dash as a sophomore and that blazing speed shows up consistently when you watch him. Royal lines up both on the outside and in the slot for Brother Martin and he easily erases cushions and angles when running routes and with the ball in the open field. The second play of his junior cutups looks like something out of a backyard football game and even though it probably didn’t count due to penalties it was both hilarious and impressive that he ended up in the end zone. New Orleans (La.) Brother Martin wide receiver Easton Royal, the No. 7 overall prospect in the Rivals Industry Rankings for the 2027 class, committed to Texas on Saturday.

The five-star prospect chose the Longhorns over a national offer list that includes programs such as Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Ole Miss, Oregon and Texas A&M.

“I committed to Texas because it has everything I could need in a program,” Royal told Rivals’ Chad Simmons. “Their stability, the love, the culture and, with coach (Chris) Jackson, I know I’m going to get developed for the league; and their academics are off the charts.”

Royal visited Eugene earlier this month and attended Texas’ victory over Texas A&M on Saturday. He is the Longhorns’ first commitment in the 2027 class.

“This was my second time there and I can say there is nothing like playing in DKR in front of 105,000 on a Saturday night,” he said.

Scouting Easton Royal

The most dynamic pass-catcher early in the 2027 cycle and a threat to score every time he touches the ball. Measured at around 5-foot-11, 185 pounds prior to his junior season.
