 In-Home Care Clifton, NJ

How does In-home Senior Care in Clifton, NJ work?

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it's especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age. When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one ages, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

 Senior Care Clifton, NJ

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a unfamiliar assisted living community, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

Comfort
Comfort

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them? A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old. With the help of elderly care in Clifton, NJ, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Healthy Living
Healthy Living

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors. Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

Independence
Independence

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like an assisted living community. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

Cost and Convenience
Cost and Convenience

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, can be less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care in Clifton, NJ gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Empowers Seniors

Affordable Care Plans

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

Veteran's Benefits
Veteran's Benefits

Aid and Attendance benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.

Long-Term Care Insurance
Long-Term Care Insurance

Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.

Private Insurance
Private Insurance

Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.

Life Insurance

Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Clifton,NJ understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

A Clifton man has been charged in connection with a $13 million scam that went after the elderly and small business owners, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced.

Manoj Yadav, 40, who also resided in Jersey City, was arrested on Thursday and charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud for his alleged part in a technical support scam that targeted more than 7,000 victims nationwide, according to Sellinger.

“The defendant and his conspirators are alleged to have misled their numerous victims into thinking that they were a legitimate technology support company affiliated with a major software company,” Sellinger stated in a release. “After claiming to provide technical support for issues involving the software company’s popular accounting software, they allegedly charged the victims exorbitant fees for purported support services that were not authorized by the software company.”

Authorities claim that, from 2017 to 2023, Yadav and his conspirators, many located in India, pretended to be a technology support company affiliated with a major U.S. business and accounting software company. The company would contact victims on the phone to fix technical issues with the accounting software and then charge exorbitant fees or additional subscription fees. One elderly victim was scammed out of $9,010, according to court documents.

The U.S Attorney accuses Yadav of sending the co-conspirators over $13 million and keeping 17% of the funds. Authorities say Yadav acquired the funds through his company, Phebs Software Services, LLC.

The company went by many names, including Phebs Software Services, PN Bookkeeping Services, Phebbs Consulting, Quickbooks Tech Assist, Quickbook US, Quickbooks Accounting, and Quickbooks Support Team.

“We allege Yadav lied to software users and forced them to pay for services that would usually come free with their initial purchase,” FBI Special Agent in Charge James E. Dennehy said. “The amount he's accused of stealing from his victims and the number of victims seem shocking; however, we are seeing an incredible increase in all types of tech support scams.

"The fraudsters are pretty savvy in how they con money out of people, even those of us who think we’re smart enough to not fall for it," Dennehy said. "If you think you’re a victim, please reach out to the FBI.”

If convicted, Yadav is facing a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and fines.

RIDGEWOOD − Clifton coach Ralph Cinque wore his “Rocky III” T-shirt for Friday night’s Super Football Conference game at Ridgewood.

“It’s symbolic,” Cinque said. “Ridgewood is always on top. And through the years, we’ve played some stinkers against them, and we’ve played some real good ones. Tonight was a good one.”

That was the consensus on the Clifton sideline after a 28-21 victory that featured a big play to punctuate each half.

Mustangs quarterback Romelo Tables snapped a 14-all tie with a 37-yard, tackle-breaking touchdown as the second quarter expired. Senior cornerback Alexander Franco then intercepted the Maroons’ deep pass with 43.7 seconds remaining in the fourth.

“It came down to intestinal fortitude,” Cinque said. “That was the word of the day before the game – fortitude… we were in adverse situations, and we just kept swinging. We were never down, we were never out.”

Check out the photo gallery, then continue reading.

What it means

Each team has won a Group 5 sectional title within the past five seasons, and this win gives Clifton (2-1) a big boost going forward, both mentally and in power points. The Mustangs have won two straight since an opening loss to Montclair and host Eastside next Friday.

Ridgewood (1-1), meanwhile, has a short week to prepare for a Thursday game against 2022 Group 4 finalist Northern Highlands.

“We don’t have time to feel sorry for ourselves,” Maroons coach Torre Watson said. “We’ve got no time to do anything but improve.”

Key plays

The Mustangs had an answer for every Ridgewood touchdown. Trailing 7-0 after the opening drive, they got a 43-yard TD run from Devon Stroble late in the first quarter.

After Ridgewood scored with 48.2 seconds to go in the half, Nate Ceneri returned the ensuing kickoff 68 yards to help set up Tables’ tiebreaking run.

“I looked downfield and saw green grass, so I just took off,” the junior QB said. “My teammates pushed me in. If it weren’t for the team, I would’ve been stopped at the 5-yard line.”

Tables also threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Ceneri with 14.4 seconds left in the third quarter to provide the final margin.

Game balls

? Stroble carried 20 times for 128 yards and a pair of scores, while Tables ran 11 times for 77 yards and completed 6-of-8 passes for 64 yards.

? Franco finished with five tackles and the sealing INT, while David Chavez led the Clifton defense with 10 tackles.

? Ridgewood’s Colin Lake was Mr. Versatile: 7 carries for 46 yards and a TD, 2 kick returns for 41 yards, plus a blocked punt that he recovered to set up the first of two TD runs by Bobby Kuenzler (12 carries, 80 yards).

They said it

“I saw the receiver run full speed [and] try to come over the top. I read him good, I read the ball, and it just came and fell in my hands – got the game-winning pick.” − Franco

Helicopter crew that carried out rescue on Passaic River in New Jersey speaks out

CLIFTON, New Jersey (WABC) -- The New Jersey State Trooper helicopter crew that hoisted first responders from the Passaic River Wednesday in dramatic fashion spoke out Thursday.

Trooper Shamik Songui said it was his first ever rapid water rescue but he was fearless hanging down from the chopper trying to pull two Clifton firefighters out of their partially sunken rescue boat.

"The first one definitely felt a little bit easier. The second one was more challenging, but once the pilot figured out the situation, it was pretty easy," Songui said.

It all began when a boat with a small team of contractors working on a construction project upstream along the Dundee Dam Falls got disconnected from another boat and drifted, getting stuck teetering on the edge of the falls.

That's when the Clifton Fire Department was called in, but the swift current of the Passaic River proved treacherous even for the rescue team.

"We went out there with our boat and attempted to rescue them," Clifton Mayor Raymond Grabowski said. "Our rescue boat went over the falls with our men in it and was submerged."

The two firefighters in it had successfully rescued the workers, but now they themselves needed to be rescued from their partially submerged boat.

Songui said rescuing the first firefighter went smoothly, but the second was more difficult because he was swinging like a pendulum back and forth waiting for the right approach.

He was being aided by Sgt. Jason Jorgensen who controlled the hoist and made sure the pilot put Songui in the right place.

"I'm trying to guide or tell the pilot what to do, to get the rescuer into the boat on the ground. So it's a pretty hair-raising event," Jorgensen said.

They are an elite unit that practices these operations monthly and there were a lot of obstacles to consider when making a rescue like the one that played out live on Eyewitness News.

The pilot, Lt. Enrique Villa, said the second hoist operation took two attempts.

"Our second hoist, it didn't go to plan like the first one. We were able to fix it with our training and on the third loop come in. So we were just happy to that we were able to reach them and it didn't turn into anything worse," Villa said.

Everyone involved escaped uninjured.

WESTWOOD — Coaches always talk about jumping out on top early. Montclair did just that on the second offensive play of the season with a highlight-reel catch-and-run, and the Mounties were off and running at the Jim Grasso Kickoff Classic.

Jahaad Battle was targeted by Maalchi Lewis on a deep ball down the left sideline. Battle tipped the ball up and ran back under it for a catch and a 55-yard touchdown. That was all the momentum Montclair needed as it claimed a 30-15 football win over Clifton on Saturday.

The Mounties kept up the pressure, recovering a muffed snap on the Mustangs’ first play after the score, setting up a Lewis to David Thomas-Rogers 4-yard touchdown pass and a 14-0 lead 4:51 into the game.

Misfortune continued to haunt the ‘Stangs, as a bad punt snap resulted in a safety in the opening minute of the second quarter. Montclair then took over at the Clifton 45 after an out-of-bounds kickoff and scored again, this time on a Lewis pass to Richard Williams for 9 yards. That made it 23-0 with 9:33 left in the first half.

The Mustangs did manage a touchdown before halftime courtesy of a Derek Stroble 23-yard run, and they had a chance to get the deficit down to one score on a third-quarter drive only to see Mountie Sam Sullivan record a sack on second down. Two incompletions ended that opportunity.

The game slowed down on the unexpectedly hot afternoon, thanks to cramps on both sides, but the Mounties got a gift score to finally ice the game with 9:17 to go. On a third-and-26, Lewis evaded a shoulder tackle behind the line and rumbled for 31 yards and a first down.

On fourth down from the Clifton 20-yard line, they lined up for a field goal. The snap was high and ended up in the hands of kicker Benjamin Price, who went right and found a seam, breaking a tackle near the 10 and going in for the touchdown.

Stroble had a second TD on a 2-yard run with 2:53 left and added a two-point conversion catch. Clifton recovered an onside kick, but Thomas-Rogers intercepted a deep pass and Montclair ran out the final two minutes.

What it means

For Montclair, it’s a victory for a young team that is still trying figure out how to use all of the weapons they have on offense. The Mounties can build off of this one, both athletically and with confidence.

For Clifton, it’s about going back to the drawing board and the fundamentals. The Mustangs struggled for any offensive consistency, and Stroble was the only bright spot on offense. Defensively, they had a better second half, but Montclair was able to exploit the outside with its speed.

Key moments

Besides the opening touchdown and the final score, you’d have to look at the sack by Sullivan. Montclair was starting to wilt in the heat and could not afford to see the lead shrink to a single score.

The other moment came right after the safety, when Lewis went deep to Thomas-Rogers for a 36-yard completion to the Mustang 9. Thomas-Rogers was five yards behind the secondary, but had to wait for the ball that was a bit underthrown. Still, the big play set up the lead-lengthening touchdown.

By the numbers

Lewis had a solid game, completing 6 of 14 passes (0 for 2 in the second half) for 133 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. He also ran 13 times for 84 yards. The Mounties got solid production out of three backs, Ja-Khi Chance (13 carries, 70 yards), Jayden Lee (6-44) and Yasin Latham (15-43).

Stroble ran hard all afternoon for the Mustangs, compiling 134 rushing yards on 17 carries. The passing game struggled, as Romelo Tables was 4 of 17 passing for 44 yards with a pair of interceptions.

Montclair was its own worst enemy, as they were flagged 14 times for 154 penalty yards.

They said it

“Even the pros have those moments where you’re tired and you just make mistakes. We had plenty of them today with the penalties, but that’s something we can work on. It’s so much easier to teach off a win, and we have some youthful energy that needs to be used the right way.” – Montclair coach Jermain Johnson

“He has been catching the ball like a defensive back all preseason, but today he really showed himself.” – Johnson on Thomas-Rogers, who had 2 catches for 57 yards (and two other long gainers called back by penalty) and the INT.

NEW JERSEY — Construction is underway for a new ambulatory care center at the ON3 complex in Nutley and Clifton, a firm announced Tuesday.

According to Prism Capital Partners, Hackensack Meridian Health’s 80,000-square-foot facility will be set on the southeast corner of Metro Boulevard and Route 3 in Clifton. It will be part of the ON3 complex, which is also located in Nutley.

Prism Construction Management is developing the four-story building. The Gensler-designed facility, which features a glass curtain wall façade, will include an ambulatory surgical center as well as additional multi-specialty practice areas. An attached parking structure will provide 400 spaces for occupants and visitors.

Hackensack Meridian Health already occupies academic, and research and development space at ON3, which is home to the organization’s School of Medicine and Center for Discovery and Innovation (an NIH-designated Clinical Research Center).

“Hackensack Meridian Health has been committed to ON3 from the start,” said Eugene Diaz, principal partner at Prism Capital.

“We take great pride in our expanding relationship and our ability to accommodate this healthcare leader’s diverse needs in a single location,” Diaz added.

According to Prism Capital, ON3’s existing 1.45 million square feet of office and R&D/lab space is 100 percent occupied, and more than two million square feet of new space is planned for the site.

Other occupants at the site include Eisai Inc., Quest Diagnostics, the Ralph Lauren Corporation, Seton Hall University’s Graduate College of Nursing and School of Health and Medical Sciences, Modern Meadow, and Y-mAbs Therapeutics.
