“Dear Mr. Gardner, I am writing to express my gratitude for the commitment and service of your employee, Shameka Kelly. Through your agency, Ms. Kelly was connected to our family to serve as a caregiver for my sister Victoria who was in the late states of ALS/Lou Gehrig’s disease and required 24-hr. care at home. Shameka served as full-time caregiver under the direction of Victoria’s husband Ron, who was able to keep my sister at home until her passing this past March. This catastrophic and incurable disease rendered my sister completely paralyzed—wheelchair bound, unable to speak, bathe, eat or even lift a finger to do anything for herself. Shameka did what most caregivers would not or simply could not do because of the stamina and patience required to care for Victoria. Before Shameka, we hired a multitude of caregivers who came and went—sometimes only after one day—because of how strenuous and taxing being a caregiver to my sister was. Day after day, Shameka arrived for the job with a smile on her face and the patience and commitment to go with it. My sister Victoria grew to love Shameka, as we all have. It was a great comfort to us because we knew that if Shameka was on duty, my sister was in good hands. Shameka’s character, integrity, humor, honesty and professionalism are beyond reproach. She is an extremely caring individual who is always upbeat, optimistic, and patient. She was an answer to prayer for our family and became more than a caregiver—she became part of our family. She has my highest recommendation for any task or client that may be placed before her. And we will be forever grateful. Kindest Regards, Pamela Meek North Richland Hills, TX”

What is Non-Medical Senior Care in Arlington, TX?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local Restaurant506 or visit Top O' Hill Terrace, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Arlington, TX, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your TX's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.
 Senior Care Arlington, TX

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Arlington, TX understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care Arlington, TX

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
 Caregivers Arlington, TX

At Always Best Care, our representatives can match your senior's emotional, physical, and financial needs with viable assisted living communities nearby. Results are based on comparative data, so you can select the best choice for you or your loved one.

Always Best Care works closely with local senior living communities to gain valuable knowledge that we then use to help seniors and their loved ones make informed decisions. This information can include basic care and rent, resident availability, and services provided. Because Always Best Care is compensated by these communities, we provide senior living referral services at no extra cost to you.

Some of the most popular assisted living communities to consider in our area include the following:

  • The Waterford on Cooper
  • Meadowbrook Memory Care Community
  • Colonial Oaks at Arlington
  • Morada Lake Arlington
  • Bethesda Gardens Assisted Living Arlington
  • Brookdale Pecan Park
Home Care Arlington, TX

For many seniors, moving into a senior living community revolves around how and when they want to make a transition to more involved care. Some seniors are more proactive about transitioning to independent living. Others choose to remain home until their care needs or other requirements are satisfied. Remember - our staff is here to help. Contact our office today to learn more about assisted living communities and how we can find a facility that exceeds your expectations.

At this point, anytime there's a post that features a photo of Ray Davis, it doesn't bode well, does it?

I've kind of put off doing this, because I don't want to think about the Texas Rangers' payroll situation for 2027, or their budget, or the looming lockout, with Rangers owner Ray Davis reportedly being one of the salary cap hawks on the ownership side.

That being said, we are going to take a look at the Rangers' current payroll situation this morning. As always, Cot's Contracts is our invaluable source for most of this information.

As a sidenote…the past few seasons, when we have done this exercise, we have looked at both the actual payroll and the payroll for luxury tax purposes, in order to get a handle on where the Rangers are relative to the luxury tax thresholds. Given that the organization has made it clear that ownership is not going to spend close to the current luxury tax levels,* there's no reason to deal with that.

* With the CBA expiring, we don't know what the luxury tax threshold will be in 2027, or even if there will be a luxury tax anymore. However, if the luxury tax threshold moved up at the same rate it did throughout the expiring CBA, teams with over $247M in luxury tax payrolls in 2027 would pay the luxury tax. Each team pays roughly $20M in player benefits and the pre-arb bonus pool, so that would mean a team could get to approximately $227M in player payroll without paying the tax, in that scenario.

Texas currently has five players under contract for the 2027 season:

Jacob deGrom — $37,000,000

Corey Seager — $31,500,000

Nathan Eovaldi — $24,000,000

Brandon Nimmo — $20,500,000

Danny Jansen — $8,000,000

In addition, the Rangers have $1M due to Kyle Higashioka to buy out his mutual option for 2027, and $1.25M due to Jakob Junis to buy out his mutual option for 2027.* There's a mutual option with Joc Pederson, as well, but no buyout.

* Mutual options are almost never picked up, since a club is either going to decline the option as being more than they are willing to pay, or a player is going to decline the option because they think they can do better on the open market, or at least want to explore their options.

Those commitments total $123.25M.

The Rangers also have ten players who are arbitration-eligible for 2027. Those ten players, along with their projected arbitration salaries in 2027 (per MLB Trade Rumors), are as follows:

MacKenzie Gore — $8,700,000

Jake Burger — $6,900,000

Josh Jung — $5,200,000

Ezequiel Duran — $4,000,000

Wyatt Langford — $3,300,000

Logan O'Hoppe — $3,100,000

Jacob Latz — $3,000,000

Evan Carter — $1,700,000

Cody Bradford — $1,300,000

Robert Garcia — $1,100,000

In looking at this list, there are only two players who I see as being potential non-tenders — Jake Burger and Logan O'Hoppe.

The Rangers got Burger two offseasons ago for three prospects who the team doesn't miss (and who don't appear in the current BA Marlins top 30 list), and he's given the team two cheap seasons of middling performance at first base. $6.9M is in the ballpark of what middling first basemen cost on the open market — it does not, at first blush, appear to be the sort of discount against market value you hope to capture with players in their arbitration years.

Complicating things for Burger is that Sebastian Walcott is knocking on the door. Were it not for his elbow injury, which cost him most of 2026, Walcott may have already kicked the door down and staked a claim for a major league job. Still, his strong performance over the final couple of months, when he returned to action (though primarily at DH), as well as his Arizona Fall League performance, would suggest he may be a viable option for an infield job in the majors in 2027.

The Rangers could move Josh Jung — who graded out as below average defensively in 2026, and has been underwhelming with the glove the past three years — to first base, opening up the third base position. The hope, I imagine, would be for Walcott to earn the spot in spring training, with Cody Freeman, Justin Foscue (who would be at second base, pushing Ezequiel Duran to third base), and an NRI or two also vying for the job.

That would theoretically make Jake Burger expendable. Of course, the Rangers still don't have a DH, and we all know about the durability concerns with Jung, so a team that isn't pinching pennies might see Burger as having value as the DH and backup first baseman.

My guess is that the Rangers look to sign Burger to a modest raise from the $3.2M he made in 2026 — say, $4.5 to $5M — and let him know he'll be non-tendered at the November 20 contract tender deadline if he doesn't agree. It would make for a difficult decision for Burger, who is old for an arb-eligible player (he turns 31 in April), has a skill set and profile that doesn't tend to be financially rewarded by the market, and who would be on the market for less than two weeks before the lockout hits.

As for O'Hoppe, the Rangers got him from the Angels, along with Chase Silseth, for little other than taking on his salary (which was offset by the Rangers dumping Josh Smith and his salary in the subsequent deal with the Jays, and if you're curious, MLBTR projects Smith as getting $3.875M in arbitration this year). The DMN reported just this past week that they view him as a long-term project on defense, which would suggest that they are interested in keeping him around and working with him. Given the lack of catching depth in the upper levels, keeping O'Hoppe around, even as a third catcher who you can option to the minors, would make sense, if you think the defense is salvageable.

O'Hoppe made $2.63 million in 2026. My guess is that the Rangers do with O'Hoppe what I am guessing they do with Burger, offering him around $2.5 million — perhaps on a split contract — and non-tendering him if he doesn't accept. Catchers are always in demand, but with the concerns about O'Hoppe's receiving, I don't know what the market for him would be like, and he could end up landing in the pile of fungible veteran catchers who get NRIs every spring.

To head off any comments about Gore being a non-tender candidate, he's made 96 starts over the past three seasons, is lefthanded, and has quality stuff. He'd get more than one year at $8-9 million if he were a free agent. And that's without even getting into the fact that the Rangers traded five prospects for him last offseason, and non-tendering him would be an admission of failure that I don't think the front office wants to make.

So let's assume that the Rangers keep all ten of their arb-eligible players, at the MLBTR projected salaries, except for Burger and O'Hoppe, who we would slot in at $5M and $2.5M, respectively.

That would put us at $159.05M for 2027 payroll. Add in roughly $12M for the rest of your pre-arbitration players rounding out the active roster and the 40 man roster, and that's a $171.05M payroll

To put this in perspective, Cot's has the Rangers' 2026 year-end payroll at $191.7M. So if the Rangers were to keep payroll static, they'd have $20 million to spend this offseason.

That is not a lot.

On the other hand, the lineup and starting rotation don't have a lot of holes right now. You're bringing back all your starters in the lineup except for Pederson at DH, though if you are moving Jung to first base and Burger to DH, that problem is solved.

You probably want a righthanded hitting outfielder who can play center field to either platoon with Evan Carter, or push him to the bench if he continues not to hit, though they could opt to put Duran in the outfield — at least against lefties — and use Justin Foscue or Cody Freeman at DH. Or, hell, they could let Burger go and put Foscue at DH, now that I think about it.

And you also need a backup catcher, unless you decide you're confident in O'Hoppe, though if they have Jansen and O'Hoppe and feel like O'Hoppe is a potentially viable backup option, they could just go with some veteran NRIs and, if O'Hoppe doesn't have the Chopp-es behind the plate in Surprise, have one of them back up Jansen.

The rotation currently features deGrom, Eovaldi, Gore, Jack Leiter, Kumar Rocker, and Cody Bradford. The latter three all have questions and concerns, but overall, I don't see the Rangers spending money on adding starting pitching. There will be your usual collection of NRIs brought in as depth, of course, but I can't see the Rangers going out and spending money to add a middling innings eater, given where things stand now.

The bullpen, of course, is the bullpen, and once again, the Rangers will be going out into the market to get cheap, functional arms. That said, they are bringing back Garcia, Silseth, Jacob Latz, and Peyton Gray, which would represent half of their projected Opening Day bullpen. Young, Fenstermaker & Co. will probably need to add three or four relievers, and will likely do it, as they have the previous couple of seasons, on the cheap.

So if the Rangers are looking at a 2027 payroll in line with what they had in 2026, they don't have a lot to spend, but would be able to fill the holes.

The problem, of course, is that the Rangers don't have the financial resources to make any real upgrades or improvements to the roster in this scenario. They'd essentially be running it back — something that the front office seems to have signaled they don't want to do. If they want to upgrade a spot, they'd likely need to increase payroll from 2026, make a trade that would cost prospects and/or current major league pieces, or move one of the four veterans with large salaries in an effort to re-allocate those funds elsewhere.

Its a conundrum. And its made all the more difficult by the pending lockout, and the uncertainty of the future financial landscape with a new CBA.

As Texas faces increasing flood risks, a newly published statewide guidance manual can help local leaders, planners and practitioners incorporate nature into resilience strategies. The Nature-Based Solutions for Flood Resilience in Texas guidance manual, developed by the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) with support from The Nature Conservancy in Texas (TNC), Freese and Nichols, Inc. and other partners, provides practical, science-based guidance for planning and implementing approaches that reduce flood impacts while delivering benefits for people and nature.

Nature-based solutions use or mimic natural features and processes to improve resilience to flooding and other environmental challenges. Working alongside traditional infrastructure, these approaches can help slow, store and absorb floodwaters while also improving water quality, promoting biodiversity and creating healthier places to live.

The new guidance manual synthesizes information on nature-based flood mitigation strategies into a single statewide resource designed to help local governments, planners and practitioners evaluate, plan and implement projects that reduce flood risk. It provides a framework for identifying appropriate nature-based solutions and assessing project feasibility while considering design, construction, operation, maintenance and adaptive management needs.

“Too often, nature-based solutions are overlooked in conversations about infrastructure and flood mitigation. The Nature-Based Solutions for Flood Resilience in Texas guidance manual helps change that by providing practical, science-informed guidance for integrating nature into flood mitigation strategies. I’m proud to be part of an effort that makes these approaches more accessible to decision-makers across Texas,” said Justin Kozak, nature-based solutions project manager for The Nature Conservancy in Texas.

The manual serves as a resource for organizations seeking to incorporate nature-based approaches into planning efforts and infrastructure investments, too. An accompanying resource, Example Model Ordinance Language for Nature-Based Solutions for Flood Resilience, was developed as an additional tool for local governments interested in incentivizing or requiring these approaches through local regulations and is available upon request from the TWDB.

Users can also explore TWDB’s Interactive Dashboard, which helps identify and evaluate potential flood mitigation opportunities through mapping tools, planning resources and site-specific data. The dashboard features a series of video case studies that showcase projects from across the state, providing decision-makers with real-world examples of how natural infrastructure can reduce risk while improving water resources, habitat and quality of life. Support for this was made possible in part by Lyda Hill Philanthropies.

“We’re deeply grateful to Lyda Hill Philanthropies and the Texas Water Development Board for investing in nature-based solutions and helping make this guidance available to communities across Texas,” said James McGuire, state director of The Nature Conservancy in Texas. “This manual, together with the video case studies and other supporting resources, will help local leaders identify and implement effective strategies that protect people, strengthen economies, enhance water resources and support wildlife habitat.”

The Nature-Based Solutions for Flood Resilience in Texas guidance manual is available for download online from the Texas Water Development Board.
