Bowling Green, OH (July 15, 2025) – A 14-year-old girl sustained serious injuries Monday afternoon after she was struck by a vehicle on State Route 25 at Union Hill Rd, just outside Bowling Green in Wood County. The crash occurred around 4:16 p.m. and is currently under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Emergency responders quickly arrived and provided medical treatment before transporting the injured girl to a nearby hospital. She suffered serious injuries, though no additional updates on her condition have been released at this time.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — The city of Bowling Green will provide a special brush collection for residents following damage in the region incurred by Wednesday's storm.
According to a press release from the city, the special collection period will occur on Monday, June 23. Residents should place their brush on the curb by 7 a.m. on Monday for it to be collected.
Brush should not be mixed with leaves or other yard debris, and it should not be bundled. Rather, it should be placed by itself loosely on the curb, or will otherwise not be collected, the city said.
The city will also not collect entire trees placed in the right of way. In caul-de-sacs, residents should not place brush in the cul-de-sac green space, as it may block fire hydrants and be unmanageable for city equipment to remove.
The city also said residents could take brush to the Wood County Landfill's Yard Waste Disposal Area for a fee.

The Pork-A-Lean Fundraiser returns June 18 in Bowling Green, featuring the 'world famous' pork sandwiches to support the community's BG BOOM Festival and Fireworks.
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — A long-running tradition returns to Bowling Green to raise funds and community spirit by serving up some famous sandwiches.
The Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce and Belleville Brothers’ Meats are hosting the annual Pork-A-Lean Fundraiser on June 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. The Belleville Brothers’ Pork-A-Lean is a "world-famous" sandwich made from ground-up 100% whole hog patties.
Pork-A-Lean has been a local favorite for years and is the highlight of this donation-based event, which supports the community's BG BOOM Festival and Fireworks display.
The event will be held at the Northwestern Ohio Tractor Pullers Association property, located at 1150 Haskins Road in Bowling Green. Organizers noted the change in location for the drive-through style fundraiser.
"Every sandwich will help make this year’s display an explosion of excitement," event organizers said in a press release. "Everyone loves a beautiful firework display, and this is a great way for the members of the community to show their support while enjoying a freshly cooked local dinner."
Drivers will follow posted signage at the site to line up, place their order and enjoy a locally made sandwich, all without leaving their vehicle.
“Thank you to the Belleville Family for continuing to work with us year after year in support of an amazing event for our community," Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Mary Hinkelman said.
The chamber also thanked Walmart of Bowling Green for volunteering and donating supplies for the fundraiser, and the Northwestern Ohio Tractor Pullers Association for the event space.

The city of Bowling Green, Ohio, has changed recycling processors and expanded its list of recyclable materials. The city of Bowling Green, Ohio, has changed recycling processors and expanded its list of recyclable materials. Cincinnati-based Rumpke Waste & Recycling was awarded a 3-year recycling contract with the city, effective July 14.
Bowling Green’s recyclables will now be shipped to Rumpke’s Sandusky Recycling Transfer Station in Clyde, Ohio, before being transported to the company’s Columbus, Ohio, material recovery facility (MRF), the Rumpke Recycling & Resource Center, for processing, allowing for a larger accepted materials list. Phoenix-based Republic Services previously served as Bowling Green’s recycling processor.
The recyclable materials list has expanded to include clear thermoformed plastic containers, paper coffee cups and clear plastic cups. The program also accepts glass bottles and jars; plastic bottles and containers; aluminum and steel cans; and paper products, including newspaper, paper food containers and corrugated cardboard and paperboard.
According to the city of Bowling Green, this change will not impact the frequency of recycling pickups, and city trucks will continue collecting materials on a weekly basis.
“As one of North America’s largest recyclers, Rumpke is excited to process recycling for Bowling Green,” says Jeff Meyers, east area communications manager at Rumpke. “More than 70 percent of what we throw away can be recycled. We are looking forward to collaborating with Bowling Green to keep more waste out of landfills and put more of it to good use through recycling.”
The $100 million Rumpke Recycling & Resource Center opened in August 2024 and can process up to 250,000 tons of materials per year. The company says it is the largest and most technologically advanced MRF in North America, processing material from more than 50 Ohio counties.
