ROSSFORD, Ohio (WTVG) - Rossford Schools is getting a new building with no cost to taxpayers. Renderings of the new school were unveiled to the board of education at a facilities committee meeting on Tuesday.
What is now a plot of land off of Lime City Road will soon be the home of the new $35 million Rossford Middle School that will house fourth through sixth graders. And taxpayers are not being billed.
“We’re positioning for the future,” said Rossford Superintendent Dan Creps. “When we look at that and we say we’re in a very strong financial space, we know that our enrollment is growing, we know our programming is expanding, let’s take a look at this and if we can do this, this would be the time.”
Part of the district’s funds come from enterprise zone agreements such as First Solar, the current Amazon fulfillment center and now another Amazon building being built along Route 20. With these new buildings, come new families, and students in the Rossford district.
“The expanded programming we’re seeing to meet the needs of our current students is another part of that. But with these housing developments coming in and more development seems to be on the horizon, once again, we didn’t want to be left with, oh, I wish we had moved on that,” said Creps.
The multipurpose facility, The R, was built in 2023, also without any cost to taxpayers.
“So to be able to pull that off with the multi-use building and now when we see a need for sure that with the growth and enrollment, to address that once again without having to go back to our voters, I think tells an incredible story for the community,” said Creps.
The middle school will be built between the elementary school and The R, keeping traffic flow, safety and security and close proximity all in mind.
“That’s ultimately the goal, that we can educate our students, simply put, and prepare them for the next step beyond graduation,” said Creps.
The projected date for students to be walking the halls is January 2028.
