The Cuyahoga Valley Community Chorus will present a concert event titled “A Season of Wonder” on Dec. 20 at 7 p.m. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 2121 6th Street in Cuyahoga Falls.
The holiday concert will feature the adult chorus along with a debut performance by the Cuyahoga Valley Children’s Choir. Special guest artists, violinist Amy Glick and cellist Greg Fiocca, will share their gifts as well. The concert will be conducted by artistic director Ted Shure and associate conductor Colleen Coyle Miller, who is also the music director of the Children’s Choir, with pianist, John Eley.
The Children’s Choir program began as a pilot program last season and, thanks to grant funding, the program was able to increase in scope to include the Dec. 20 appearance in addition to outreach concerts in the community.
Cuyahoga Valley Choral Arts, Inc., the parent company of both choruses, received a major ArtsForward grant from ArtsNow, an ArtsRise grant from the Ohio Arts Council (who also provided an ArtStart grant for general operations), and a grant from the Akron Community Foundation, which has made this year’s expansion of the Children’s Choir program possible.
“The arts are such an important part of a child’s education and we are able to reach out to these beautiful and talented children and provide them with a special experience through this invaluable choral adventure," Shure said. "We are so grateful for the support we’ve received from ArtsNow, Ohio Arts Council and the Akron Community Foundation, as well as the partnership we are enjoying with Urban Vision. I am also thrilled that we will be joined by Amy Glick and Greg Fiocca, both of whom I have had the privilege of working with as often as opportunities arise. They are consummate professional musicians and wonderful humans."
The concert will include music of the season including a stirring piece by Elaine Hagenberg, entitled “O Come Emanuel,” arrangements of well known carols, a trio for violin, cello, and piano, performed by Glick, Fiocca, and Shure, and a arrangement of “Mary Did You Know”, among others. The group will also lead a carol singalong featuring the audience.
There will be a reception for all concert-goers following the performance. The concert is free and donations to help support these performances are gratefully accepted.
St. Luke’s is accessible and the concert is family friendly.
