CLEVELAND, Ohio — Northeast Ohio got its first taste of winterlike weather Thursday night as lake-effect snow churned through the region.
Spotters with the National Weather Service recorded 8 inches of snow overnight in Highland Heights, the most in the area. Lyndhurst had 6.6 inches and Concord Township in Lake County had 6.3 inches.

Lake, Geauga and eastern Cuyahoga counties — the heart of the snow belt — took the brunt of snow, which continued falling heavily in some areas into early Friday morning. The totals were widespread. Chardon, generally considered the heart of the snow belt, had 4 inches. Areas to the west had less than an inch, if any snow.
There were more than 4,000 reported power outages in Lake County Friday morning, with over 1,600 in Mentor. In Cuyahoga County, Euclid had just over 1,100 outages.
The snow won’t last. The forecast for Friday is calling for temperatures near 50 degree, rain and wind gusts close to 40 mph, so the snow should disappear quickly.
