When construction is finished, the park will complete a gap in the Naperville Riverwalk system by connecting the south extension of the Riverwalk, Washington Street and the North Central College campus via the Moser Covered Bridge.
The North Central College Riverwalk Park project is a result of a 2015 agreement between the City and North Central College and is part of the College’s 2024 Master Land Use Plan and the Naperville Riverwalk 2031 Master Plan to revitalize the Riverwalk. This project is an example of a public-private partnership between the City of Naperville and North Central College for the mutual benefit of the broader community.
The project is estimated to cost $2.1 million. Funding for this project is provided in part by $1.3 million from the State of Illinois. The remaining funding comes from the City's Capital Project Fund.
2012: North Central College acquired the land at 430 S. Washington in 2012 and, in partnership with the City of Naperville, removed the empty commercial building on the property.
2020: The Naperville Riverwalk Commission adopted the Riverwalk 2031 Master Plan, and the plan was approved by Naperville’s City Council.
2022: The College received approval from the Naperville City Council to erect an archway sign on the property.
2023: The Washington Street Bridge Replacement Project began. Given the impact of the Washington Street Bridge Project, work on North Central College Riverwalk Park was deprioritized to ensure the Washington Street Bridge Project would be completed before the park opened.
2024: North Central College included the park in its updated Master Land Use Plan, which was approved by the Naperville City Council and incorporated into the City’s comprehensive land use plan.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Swig, the home of the "original dirty soda," will expand into the Chicago area with 13 locations, including in Naperville, owners told Patch.
The beverage brand has signed multi-unit franchise operators Derek and Michelle Hincks to expand Swig across Chicago's southwest suburbs, according to a news release.
Planned locations announced last week include stores in Naperville, Bolingbrook, Crest Hill and Romeoville.
Derek Hincks told Patch that the Crest Hill location will open next month at 1701 N. Larkin Ave., Unit 800D. Locations in Naperville, Bolingbrook and Romeoville will open in 2027.
"We've admired Swig for years, not only because it created the dirty soda category, but because of the way the brand brings people together and makes every visit a fun, memorableexperience," Derek Hincks said in the news release.
"As longtime fans of the brand, becoming franchisees felt like a natural next step after meeting the experienced Executive team. Their passion and commitment to the business were contagious, and we knew we wanted to be a part of what they were building."
Hincks said he is eager to introduce Swig to the Chicago area and become part of its communities.
"Derek and Michelle bring the entrepreneurial mindset, franchise experience, and community-first values that we look for in our franchise partners," Alex Dunn, CEO of Swig, said in the news release. "Their passion for creating meaningful guest experiences and investing in the neighborhoods they serve makes them an outstanding addition to the Swig franchise family, and we look forward to supporting their growth throughout the Chicago market."
Swig has a drive-thru-centric footprint, according to the news release. The locations can operate in as little as 800-850 square feet.
"We continue to see strong demand from experienced operators who recognize the long-term potential of the Swig brand," Todd Smith, president of Swig, said in the news release. "Chicago represents an exciting growth market for us, and Derek and Michelle are well-positioned to introduce the Swig experience to new guests while building lasting connections within their communities."

The husband-and-wife team of Derek and Michelle Hinks owns Sip City Social LLC, and said they were looking forward to the new venture.
“We’ve admired Swig for years, not only because it created the dirty soda category, but because of the way the brand brings people together and makes every visit a fun, memorable experience,” said Derek Hincks in the news release. “As longtime fans of the brand, becoming franchisees felt like a natural next step after meeting the experienced Executive team.”
Swig President Todd Smith said he appreciated the Hinks seeing the brand’s “long-term potential.”
“Chicago represents an exciting growth market for us, and Derek and Michelle are well-positioned to introduce the Swig experience to new guests while building lasting connections within their communities,” said Smith.
Started in 2010 in St. George, Utah, Swig is home to the “dirty soda,” adding flavors, fresh fruits, purees, and creams to favorite pop beverages.
The company now also serves water-based “Refreshers” and customizable energy drinks called “Revivers,” along with snacks.
The brand has 150 locations across 16 states. The new Chicago locations will be its first offerings in Illinois.
