A seasoned Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), Trimble was honored in the category of Exemplary Professional Practice. She helped pioneer the Pediatric Hematology Oncology Program at Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital. Colleagues and patients alike laud Trimble for her compassion, integrity, and wisdom.

In addition to her compassion, Trimble has played a critical role in enhancing quality and safe patient care. She developed and continues to lead a multidisciplinary Pediatric Oncology Quality Committee. One of her efforts involved leading the implementation of an electronic chemotherapy ordering system that allows for a personalized treatment plan using evidence-based protocols.

Thanks to Trimble’s collaboration with the Emergency Department through education and execution of an algorithmic approach, excellent outcomes have been maintained for patients presenting with presumed sepsis. Another crucial responsibility has been Trimble’s regular review of all adverse events, especially encompassing chemotherapy safety.

Additionally, Trimble committed herself to successfully educating every pediatric oncology nurse at Central DuPage Hospital in providing chemotherapy while championing equal access to treatment opportunities for patients. She sits on the Internal Review Board and was instrumental in the hospital’s journey to become a Children’s Oncology Group (COG) Affiliate Member institution.

WINFIELD, ILL. — Interra Realty has arranged the $44.2 million sale of Winfield Station in Winfield, about 35 miles west of Chicago. The newly built, transit-oriented apartment complex features 162 units and is situated near the Winfield Metra station. The property was 82 percent occupied at the time of sale. Amenities include a resident lounge, business center, fitness center and outdoor pool. Jon Morgan, David Goss and Joe Smazal of Interra represented the seller, an affiliate of Chicago-based Synergy Construction Group, which completed construction of the property in August 2021. Patrick Kennelly and Paul Waterloo of Interra procured and represented the buyer, Mango Shadow LLC.

WILMETTE, ILL. — Chicago-based Newport Capital Partners has sold Edens Plaza in the Chicago suburb of Wilmette for $110 million. Massachusetts-based WS Development was the buyer. The shopping center spans 350,000 square feet. Current tenants include The Fresh Market, Walgreens, Chicagoland Children’s Health Alliance, Starbucks and Big Blue Swim School. The property also comprises a two-story department store that was formerly occupied by Carson Pirie Scott and is currently vacant. Newport acquired Edens Plaza in 2018 and the vacant department store in 2019. WS plans to open the first-ever bricks-and-mortar store for online furniture retailer Wayfair in the department store. Joe Girardi of Mid-America Real Estate Group brokered the transaction.

SAN ANTONIO — New York City-based Dwight Capital has provided a $22.7 million HUD-insured loan for the refinancing of Stablewood Farms, a 252-unit affordable housing community in San Antonio. Built in 2002, the property comprises 16 two- and three-story buildings, five garages, a leasing office and a community center on a 22-acre site. The majority (75 percent) of the units are restricted to households earning 80 percent or less of the area median income (AMI), while 20 percent are reserved for renters earning up to 50 percent of AMI. Josh Sasouness of Dwight Capital originated the loan through HUD’s 223(f) program on behalf of the borrower, locally based nonprofit organization Merced Housing Texas.

PLANO, TEXAS — A joint venture between two California-based investment firms, Magma Equities and Franklin Templeton, has purchased Palencia Apartment Homes, a 281-unit multifamily property in the northern Dallas suburb of Plano. Built in 1996, the property consists of nine buildings housing studio, one- and two-bedroom units on a 9.6-acre site. Amenities include multiple pools, a clubhouse, fitness center, business center and picnic and grilling areas. The new ownership plans to implement a value-add program that will be primarily focused on unit interiors.

ARLINGTON, TEXAS — Marcus & Millichap has brokered the sale of Alpha Storage Centers, a 290-unit self-storage facility in Arlington. The property spans 88,107 net rentable square feet. Brandon Karr and Danny Cunningham of Marcus & Millichap represented the seller, a locally based private investor, in the transaction. An entity doing business as 10 Federal Self Storage purchased the asset for an undisclosed price.

The archbishop of Chicago is urging the Illinois attorney general to provide information about 125 newly uncovered cases of sexual abuse by clergy. (May 25) (AP Video:Paolo Lucariello, Luigi Navarra, Maria Grazia Murru)

ROME (AP) — The archbishop of Chicago urged the Illinois attorney general on Thursday to provide information about newly uncovered cases of clergy sexual abuse that were included in a statewide investigative report, saying he would gladly add the names on his list of credibly accused priests if the claims were substantiated.

In his first interview since the report was released Tuesday, Cardinal Blase Cupich expressed surprise that the 125 new cases involved some priests he had never heard of. He voiced dismay that the attorney general’s office hadn’t forwarded the new claims to the archdiocese to look into, as it had done during the five-year investigation.

“We thought we had that kind of relationship with the attorney general and so are disappointed that we’re hearing these for the first time,” Cupich said.

He spoke to The Associated Press during one of his periodic visits to the Vatican, where he sits on church committees and serves as a close adviser to Pope Francis.

In the report, investigators found that more than 450 Catholic clergy in Illinois’ six dioceses had sexually abused nearly 2,000 children since 1950, making clear the problem was far worse than the hierarchy had acknowledged in 2018 at the start of the state’s review. The archdiocese of Chicago, the third largest in the United States, had reported 68 abusive clergy in 2018. Over the course of the investigation, it added more names and went into Tuesday with 150 names on its list of credibly accused clergy.

Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s report found 125 additional abusers in the archdiocese, many of them religious order priests whose cases wouldn’t necessarily have been handled by the archdiocese but their religious orders. There was also the likelihood that victims went directly to the attorney general’s investigators, bypassing the church entirely to report claims.

Cupich said he would gladly add the names onto his list but needed information on how Raoul’s investigators substantiated the claims. Asked why it wasn’t sufficient for the church to accept cases that the attorney general’s office had substantiated, Cupich said the archdiocese just needed to understand the process.

“I can assure the public this: If these cases are substantiated and we’re given the information of how it was (done), we will put them on our website,” he said, speaking in the courtyard of the Pontifical North American College, the American seminary in Rome where Cupich stays when in town on Vatican business.

Cupich acknowledged the report laid bare a constant, structural problem in the way the Catholic Church handles abuse cases, with religious orders such as the Jesuits, Franciscans, Oblates and Marists often escaping scrutiny and accountability since they, and not the diocesan leadership, keep personnel files. Cupich concurred there was more the Holy See could and should do to bring religious orders into line.

“Should, in fact, there be more direction from the central office of the church to speak to religious orders? I would be in favor of that,” he said. “I want to make sure that we put everything out there, because I can tell you this: When we do that and a victim survivor sees it, it brings healing. That’s why I do it.”

Cupich said he would be willing to refuse to let priests of noncompliant orders work in his archdiocese, as recommended by the report, though he said he’d “rather use the carrot than the stick, because we do need these religious orders.”

On another recommendation from the report, however, Cupich was more defensive. Raoul’s investigators called for an independent mediation and compensation process for victims similar to what the archdioceses of Los Angeles and New York have established. The report argues that third-party process gives victims a “confidential non-adversarial place outside of the control of the diocese to be heard and to be financially compensated for the trauma inflicted on them.”

Cupich said he didn’t want to outsource the compensation process because that would deprive the church of the chance to provide pastoral care to victims. He said he would continue with the process he has had in place for years.

“My concern about contracting this out to a separate third party is that we turn ourselves into a business, not a church,” he said.

Situated amongst beautifully landscaped walking paths, a reflection pond, and a wooded river basin in the oxbow of the DuPage River, the new Ronald McDonald House will be a comforting 'home away from home' for families in need. Designed by Antunovich Associates, the craftsman style House utilizes natural materials including wood siding, shingles and rustic stone as an extension of its surroundings. The design builds a hierarchy from the low porches, trellises and overhanging roofs upward to high roof peaks and fireplace chimneys.

The House includes 12 guest rooms, each with a private bathroom. Eight rooms feature two queen beds, while the remaining four are suites, with a queen bed, twin bed and pull-out couch. In total, the Ronald McDonald House near Central DuPage Hospital will accommodate 52 people, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

"Being separated from our newborn was excruciatingly painful," said former RMH guest Betsey Doebler. "We knew we needed to be with him in order to ensure he felt loved and safe, and that he received the best care. Ronald McDonald House made it possible, and we were able to be with our little guy every step of the way."

The House is outfitted in earthy tones of green, rust, red and berry, complementing the natural wood floors. Common areas include comfortable living spaces, a spacious dining and kitchen area, fitness center, game room, laundry facilities, an outdoor patio and even a unique putting green, courtesy of the Illinois PGA.

Keeping in mind their youngest guests, the House also features a walk-in toy closet sponsored by longtime supporter Coldwell Banker, where each child can select a toy upon arrival. Multiple play spaces and a game room will also provide hours of entertainment.

Other stand-out features include a whimsical art glass display in the vestibule depicting fond family memories such as rain boots splashing in puddles and a kite flying high from artist Rita Shimelfarb, and a donor wall, created by artist Chris Duh, which features backlit birdhouses with lighting that changes to reflect the time of day.

A Winfield couple has written more than 260 jokes on a dry-erase board at the end of their driveway during the pandemic.

WINFIELD, IL — Like most people, Winfield residents Marybeth Sauter and her husband, Eric, were hit hard by the pandemic. Marybeth teaches fifth grade at Wheaton Christian Grammar School and Eric is an event technologist, so both Sauters had to adjust to some drastic changes in March 2020. One way of dealing with these changes has been to post a hand-written joke on a dry-erase board at the end of their driveway, in the 27W100 block of Evelyn Street, every day since April 11.

“It just felt like there was a lot of heaviness around,” Marybeth Sauter told Patch as to why they began posting the jokes. “Sometimes it's just the smallest thing that makes you have a little bit of hope and makes you feel better about your day," she added.

For inspiration, Sauter turned to joke books in her classroom. Since April, she and Eric have posted more than 260 jokes. Eric brings out the board with a new joke each night when he takes the couple's dog outside.

Sauter told Patch it's been heart-warming to see the reaction the jokes get from people. She said kids will run up ahead of their parents or ride their bikes by themselves to the home to try to sound out the jokes. Parents have told Sauter, "Our kids beg us to go on a walk to go past the joke house.”

Sauter said she and Eric have even met neighbors they never knew before because of how popular the jokes have been.

“Some of them are groaners, and some of them are better," Sauter said of the jokes. She said one of her favorite jokes was, "What's the difference between boogers and broccoli?" The answer? "Kids don't eat broccoli."

She and Eric now include a bit about national holidays, such as Taffy Day and Maple Syrup Day, and they try to tailor the jokes to match the current holiday thematically. Sauter plans to continue the tradition daily as long as the pandemic continues, and perhaps longer.

Sauter said “I hope [the joke board] says to people, ‘We see you. We know you need encouragement.’”
