Our Story

In the mid-1990’s, just outside of Sacramento, California, Michael Newman felt frustrated by the lack of resources for seniors in his community. An owner and operator of facilities for seniors, he saw many seniors and their loved ones arrive at his facilities confused and overwhelmed after trying to find the right assisted living community. This frustration eventually shaped his vision: To create a company that would serve seniors in the community by providing trusted care, compassionate support, and professional advice.

In 1996, Michael acted on his vision and founded Always Best Care. Since that time, Always Best Care has become one of the nation’s leading providers of non-medical in-home care, senior living referral services and home health care. Always Best Care was formed with the belief and agenda of taking the burden off of the families’ shoulders and putting it on our own. People with passion have made Always Best Care what it is today. Although times may change, our foundation never will.

Care consultation

The first step in our process includes a personal consultation with a Care Coordinator. In our meeting we will thoroughly discuss your care needs, create a detailed care plan, and work with you on financing and logistics.

The meeting will consist of:

A thorough discussion of your care needs
A highly detailed personal care plan
A discussion with you, or your loved one to determine how best to meet your requirements
Assistance with billing of insurance providers

Individual care plans are constantly being assessed and updated to meet physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs of our clients.

We know that exceptional service sets us apart from all other home care companies. All of our team members and caregivers receive comprehensive training before being assigned to a care plan. Our standard is that "we only hire care providers we would have care for our own loved ones."

24-Hour Care

Always Best Care helps you find the perfect round-the-clock in-home care plan to fit your loved one’s circumstances and needs. 24-hour care is support that is available to anyone who needs extra help to carry on living at home. It can include help with shopping, cooking, cleaning, washing, dressing and all other daily tasks. The need for 24-hour care can be prompted by accident, illness, dementia, frailty, disability, or frailty caused by the aging process.
Bathing, Grooming
& Dressing

Bathing, dressing and grooming play a large role in a senior’s daily routines. Maintaining good personal hygiene can be vital in preventing sickness, while dressing can impact an elderly individual’s self-esteem. Grooming and dressing are integral to the activities of daily living.
Cognitive Impairments

Cognitive impairment is not an illness, but a description of someone’s condition. It means they have trouble with things like memory or paying attention. They might have trouble speaking or understanding. And they might have difficulty recognizing people, places or things, and might find new places or situations overwhelming.
Companionship

Companionship care is primarily emotional support and companionship for seniors who are generally healthy and who want to remain independent at home.
Errands & Transportation

Help with errands, shopping, and transportation falls under the category of Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADLs). These skills are necessary in order to live independently and that all of us do once we are up, out of bed, dressed, and ready to start our day. Transportation services for seniors can help maintain a level of independence without the need for the senior to drive themselves.
Escort to Activities

Escorting a senior to activities can help them if they feel unsafe or uncomfortable in public without accompaniment. Many trips are often used to assist seniors to utilize the services of health professionals and agencies that they otherwise would not be able to access.
Hospice
Support / End-of-Life

Hospice care is for people who are nearing the end of life. The services are provided by a team of health care professionals who maximize comfort for a person who is terminally ill by reducing pain and addressing physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs.
Hospital to Home

Following a discharge from the hospital, the first three days are critical. During this time frame and beyond, the support given to a senior and their family play a vital role in the recovery process at home. A hospital-to-home program offers a comprehensive and flexible solution that can provide the physical and emotional support needed to recover safely and comfortably.
Incontinence / Toileting

There are several types of incontinence, which include overflow incontinence, transient incontinence, stress incontinence, urge incontinence, and knowing a little about the different types can help the caretaker and the family make the best decisions about what levels of toileting assistance should be included in the care plan of their loved one.
Laundry Services

For seniors, laundry can be a challenge. As people age, they may have less energy and stamina. One of the biggest benefits of laundry services is that they can help seniors stay independent. Laundry services can also help keep seniors healthy by ensuring the are wearing clean clothing.
Light Housekeeping

Light housekeeping includes things like watering the plants, dusting of surfaces and knickknacks, as well as picking up newspapers, magazines and other clutter. It includes emptying the trash, vacuuming and sweeping of main walk areas. It can also include organizing drawers, shelves and closets. In a nutshell light housekeeping is completing the specific tasks required to tidy up areas that a client uses. Examples of what a light housekeeping service does not include are heavy-duty cleaning tasks that require moving heavy furniture, washing windows, cleaning carpets, or scrubbing floors. Nor does it cover outside chores, such as shoveling snow off sidewalks, raking, or mowing the grass.
Live-In Care

Live-in care is for seniors who need around-the-clock assistance from a caregiver. Assistance is generally non-medical and includes such tasks as medication management, shopping, and assistance with activities of daily living (ADL). Though caregivers sleep at the senior’s residence, they generally aren’t required for assistance at night.
Meal Preparation

Meal preparation and eating healthy and nutritional food is important for seniors. Meal preparation assistance for the elderly is not just about cooking, but involves so much more. Maintaining a regular and consistent schedule can also play a role in emotional and physical health.
Medication Reminders

Medication reminders are a nonmedical service provided by a caregiver or a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA). CNAs do not administer medications, or speak with a doctor or pharmacist about a senior’s medicine or regime—but they do ensure medication safety and regularity.
Mobility

Mobility is the ability to move or walk freely and easily — is critical for functioning well and living independently. As we age, we may experience changes to our mobility. There are many reasons for these changes, including changes in gait (how we walk), balance, and physical strength.
Nutrition Monitoring

Nutrition is an important element of health in the older population and affects the aging process. The prevalence of malnutrition is increasing in this population and is associated with a decline in functional status, impaired muscle function, decreased bone mass, immune dysfunction, anemia, reduced cognitive function, poor wound healing, delayed recovery from surgery, higher hospital readmission rates, and mortality.
Overnight Care

Overnight care revolves around a multitude of services which may include help using the restroom in the middle of the night, providing fluids and snacks in the evening, and assisting with preparing for bed. Elderly individuals may also receive help with transfer assistance throughout the night. Overnight caregivers can also prepare breakfast and offer morning care.
Safety Supervision

Because more accidents occur inside the home than anywhere else, seniors and their caregivers must do everything in their power to make sure their homes are as safe and secure as possible. Some of the steps that can be taken to ensure homes are safe for seniors and their families include removing clutter, adding better lighting, rearranging cabinets and drawers, and assessing the safety risks of the bathroom.
Technology Assistance

Technology can help the elderly live independently for longer by facilitating preventive care, early detection of, and response to, emerging health issues, as well as timely support for daily tasks. Technology offers a wide range of benefits to older adults. End of Life Care

End of life care services offer physical and emotional support for individuals with a terminal illness during their final stages of life. Professional caregivers aid your loved one while giving your family the support they need at this difficult time. While it’s a natural part of our life cycle, the process doesn’t make it any less difficult. An increasing number of people are choosing to spend their final days at home, so it’s important that families have access to compassionate and supportive home care. Our professional caregivers receive specialized training to understand this aspect of care. Always Best Care Senior Services will keep your loved one as comfortable as possible. While our program does not include hospice care, our caregivers can work alongside and support the hospice team.
Fall Prevention

In the United States, falls are the most frequent cause of accidental death in older adults. Always Best Care Senior Services will develop a care plan centered around interventions for preventing falls and fall-related injuries, based on the findings of a fall risk assessment and/or post-fall investigations. Our Lowe’s Livable Home program can help you identify risk factors in your loved one’s home and take steps to reduce the risks of suffering a fall. The team of professional caregivers can reduce your loved one’s risk of falls in several ways. We can help your loved one maintain a safe and tidy home, lend a helping hand with day-to-day tasks that may increase the risk of falls and assist with personal care services such as dressing, bathing, and mobility.
In-Facility Care

Always Best Care Senior Services offers a full range of care services to meet the unique care needs of each client and every family. In addition to in-home care services, our professional caregivers can provide edified care for those that live in retirement communities, independent living facilities or assisted living. With in-facility care services, your loved one is never alone. Our professional caregivers provide companionship and personal care. We also have technology services to help seniors stay safe and connected to loved ones. Each client has a custom care plan designed to work with their existing care team. Always Best Care Senior Services routinely collaborates with families as well as care teams at senior facilities, rehabilitation facilities, and many other healthcare facilities to implement this individualized plan of care. This team-oriented approach helps create a more efficient process and positive outcome for the client.
Neurological Disorders

Managing the progression of neurological disorders can bring a lot of confusion. We know just how to work with the muscle stiffness and tremors to prevent frustration and falls. Our goal is to be there for you as the disease progresses, providing as much or as little care as needed. Always Best Care’s specialized home care professionals know just how to work with the muscle stiffness and tremors to help prevent frustration and falls. We also help individuals with neurological disorders stand strong with beneficial daily mobility, exercise, personal care, nutrition, supervision, and home safety.
Palliative Care

Serious, long-lasting diseases and life-threatening illnesses require special attention, and our team of professional caregivers are trained for these situations. Assisting with pain treatments or other difficult symptoms is critical, but the family member’s emotional, spiritual, and practical needs must also be properly addressed. Always Best Care Senior Services team understands and complements palliative care services. We work in conjunction with the family and healthcare providers to identify goals and make certain that they are met. Providing symptom relief, helping with access to spiritual comfort, and facilitating improved quality of life are at the forefront of our efforts.
Post-Hospitalization Care

Our professional caregivers can help you or a loved one recover from a hospital stay and reduce the risk of re-hospitalization. Along with transportation services, we offer in-home care services such as medication reminders, fall prevention strategies, and assistance in staying mobile after surgery. Care may also include preparing nutritious meals and helping with other personal care tasks to keep you comfortable.
Post-Surgical Care

Post-surgical services include care after cosmetic, gastric bypass, orthopedic, or general surgery recoveries. Cosmetic surgeries such as face lifts, rhinoplasty, liposuction, breast augmentation, or weight-loss surgeries can be necessary and/or improve the quality of your life. But it can be very hard to recover from at any age. Most patients need to restrict their normal activities for a time following any surgical procedures. It takes time as well for the visible signs of healing to subside. The first week after cosmetic or reconstruction surgery is the most clinically critical and when rest is most important. After several days you may begin to feel restless and want to resume normal activities. This is a crucial period because your body is still recovering and very fragile. If your loved one is coming home from the hospital into an empty house, their risk of readmission is especially high. This opens them up to the possibility of worsening their condition and sending them back into the hospital. Ready-Set-Go Home is a multi-faceted support system for seniors on their way home from the hospital. Like all our senior care services at Always Best Care, our transitional care program can be customized to your loved one’s unique needs. Whether they need daily assistance with maintaining good hygiene and nutrition, or regularly scheduled reminders about medications and appointments, we can help. Our transitional care experts can even operate behind the scenes to make sure that meal or equipment deliveries reach them when they’re needed.
Rehabilitation

The road to recovery can be bumpy for seniors, so we offer professional caregivers with specific training and guidance to assist during rehabilitation. Recovery from acute illness or surgery is often daunting, as many seniors must cope with a loss of mobility and acclimation to walkers or other assistance. Mary (Katy) Larson is a Doctorally trained Nurse Practitioner with dual board certifications in Acute Care Adult/Gerontology and Medical/Surgical care with extensive experience in reconstructive and aesthetic medicine. She has over 15 years of acute care hospital experience and specialty training with palliative/hospice care.

When she’s not busy caring for patients she’s spending time with her husband and two little boys. She loves spending time outdoors, traveling the world, eating good food and furthering her education.
