lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in West Hollywood, CA, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your CA's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in West Hollywood, CA understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care West Hollywood, CA

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care

The City of West Hollywood announces the installation of Open Road, a temporary public artwork by Luciana Abait, installed in celebration of the Route 66 Centennial. The artwork has been commissioned as part of the City’s Creative Plan and will remain on view through November 2026. Photos of the installation can be found on the City’s official Flickr page.

This installation is the first of several ways the City of West Hollywood will celebrate the Route 66 Centennial in the coming months, including temporary art on select street poles along Santa Monica Boulevard, a temporary sculpture in Plummer Park, new WeHo Route 66 signs, and a classic car show.

Luciana Abait’s Open Road embodies the City’s Creative Plan Theme “Inventing Traditions” by reimagining the enduring legacy of the American road trip through a contemporary artistic lens. Drawing from her personal photographic archives and enhancing them with digital animation processes, Abait transforms familiar western landscapes into a vibrant, futuristic panorama that both honors and reinvents the iconography of United States Route 66.

As the nation approaches the Route 66 Centennial, a celebration of freedom, exploration, and the open highway, Open Road bridges past and present, stitching together a speculative vista that captures the exhilaration of moving fast, slowing down, and pausing in wonder. By merging pointillistic textures with sharp-focus details across an 80-foot storefront installation, the artwork invents a new visual tradition that connects historic travel narratives with the imaginative possibilities of today’s creative technologies. Positioned at the City-owned building located at 8315 Santa Monica Boulevard, Abait’s work invites passersby to engage with the cultural mythos of the open road while redefining it for a new generation.

Luciana Abait, born in Buenos Aires and based in Los Angeles, creates multimedia works addressing climate change, environmental fragility, and their effects on immigration. Her work has been exhibited internationally in galleries, museums, and art fairs, with solo shows including On the Verge at Hilliard Art Museum, Escape-Route at Laguna Art Museum, A Letter to the Future at LAX, and Nest at Lehigh University, among others. She has also completed major public and corporate commissions, such as the 24-foot mural Vistas for Miami-Dade Art in Public Places and Hong Kong Windows for Swire Properties.

This installation is part of West Hollywood's Bronze Silver Gold Creative Plan (Creative Plan) which outlines an authentic and bespoke vision for citywide cultural programming that centers artistic excellence and community engagement. The intent of the Creative Plan is to create immersive experience-cultural activity everywhere, all the time, and center the City of West Hollywood as a cultural hub during the three years leading up to and during the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Whenever a resident leaves their home, or a visitor steps outside their hotel, they will experience something unexpected. WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- A new section of pipeline has been installed in West Hollywood, replacing a 25-foot damaged section that ruptured, spewing millions of gallons of water and flooding busy streets on Thursday.

Crews worked inside a massive trench on Saturday, replacing the water main that burst and sent an estimated 17 million gallons of water rushing through West Hollywood, flooding garages, pushing cars down the street, shifting massive chunks of asphalt and concrete slab and damaging several businesses.

"I was in shock, honestly, like there was so much water. There was so much water, and it was just like, I wouldn't even say it was a river. It was like an ocean just pouring in," said WeHo resident Shani Nino.

The circa-1916, riveted-steel 36-inch-wide trunk line broke open at 3 a.m. Thursday on Sunset Boulevard at Holloway Drive. Now, Sunset remains closed between Sherburne Drive and San Vicente Boulevard, and at least two residential buildings are still without water and power. Other nearby streets were also closed.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) said Friday evening that a 25-foot segment of the pipe was cut out and will be hauled away. Video from overnight shows crews installing the new section of pipe.

Despite the progress, traffic disruptions could extend into the workweek, and some people may be stuck staying in hotels for a few more days as they wait for their water service to return.

The original goal was to have the temporary repair finished by the end of the weekend, but that timeline now appears to be slipping as crews work through the final steps before the pipe can go back into service.

Workers spent the night welding a new section of the 110-year-old water main into place. Now comes the careful part.

The pipe has to be pressurized, checked for leaks, disinfected with chlorine and tested to make sure the water is safe to drink before the trench can be filled and the street can be repaved, reopening the stretch of Sunset Boulevard.

"It's a slow process, but it's the most efficient way of getting it done as well," said Anselmo G. Collins, the COO of LADWP.

While the repairs continue, many of the people who live in the area are still waiting to get back to normal, and are worried about how long they may be displaced.

"Got no power. They said they were going to bring it on by yesterday evening, but they didn't. So we ended up in a hotel. And it's still off at the moment," said displaced resident Fletcher Crossman. "And we had some people, just came through, and they said we're going to have to take down the walls and replace the floor, because we're on the ground floor. And so, we're now just processing that. Because obviously that means we're going to have to find somewhere else to live. And all the little plans you make, and dinner parties, and all this stuff, you suddenly realize that everything has gone out the window for quite a long time."

"I think this is ridiculous. I think the city should've attended this way sooner. I think it could've been prevented," one person told Eyewitness News.

"They're doing a phenomenal job, as you can see, I mean, they're working 24-7," said WeHo resident Elaine Morrison.

LADWP officials said drinking water remains safe, though some nearby buildings are experiencing low water pressure. Residents and businesses near the break are being asked to conserve water while repairs continue and the area is supplied through a temporary, much smaller pipe.

Even after this fix is complete, this water main isn't done.

LADWP says the aging pipeline had already been slated for a full replacement, but that larger project isn't expected to start until 2031 and isn't expected to be completed until 2035. The full project includes replacing nearly 10 miles of water pipe.

"While repairs to the damaged 25-foot section are being completed now, LADWP will continue moving forward with the long-term replacement plan," the agency said.

Officials said anyone with property or vehicle damage can file a claim through LADWP at ladwp.com/claims.

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- Cleanup and repairs continued Friday after a massive water main break flooded parts of West Hollywood, but crews are making progress.

Surveillance video obtained by Eyewitness News captured the moment the water main ruptured just after 3 a.m. Thursday. Footage from Dialog Cafe near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Holloway Drive shows water suddenly bursting from the ground before streets in the area were overwhelmed by fast-moving water.

Crews remained at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Holloway Drive, where they were working to repair a large sinkhole that formed after a 36-inch steel water pipe burst.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said Friday evening that a 25-foot segment of the pipe has been cut out and will be hauled away. The damaged section will be replaced with a new part.

According to the LADWP, workers finished draining the 0.7-mile-long section of the pipe as well as the area surrounding the pipe break.

"About 195,000 gallons of water were removed from the repair site to begin the complex work, including excavation, shoring for safety and beginning work to cut and remove a 25-foot section of damaged pipe," LADWP said in a statement.

Repairs were expected to take time before a portion of Sunset Boulevard could reopen to traffic.

Sunset Boulevard remains closed with the area reduced to the section between Sherbourne Drive and San Vicente Boulevard. Other nearby streets are also closed.

"It's a huge disruption, obviously," said one West Hollywood resident. "Our water pressure is impacted in our apartment, but the streets are blocked off, so it's tough to get around."

Eyewitness News learned the pipe that broke was about 110 years old. An infrastructure improvement project had been scheduled for 2031 and was expected to be completed by 2035.

LADWP said the full project includes replacing nearly 10 miles of water pipe.

"While repairs to the damaged 25-foot section are being completed now, LADWP will continue moving forward with the long-term replacement plan," the agency said.

READ MORE: Water main that ruptured in West Hollywood was already slated for replacement under LADWP project

The break triggered widespread flooding in the area Thursday morning, with homes inundated and hundreds of vehicles damaged after underground parking garages filled with water. One person was temporarily swept away in the fast-moving floodwaters.

Residents described a chaotic and frightening scene as the water surged through the neighborhood.

"I thought this was an earthquake of some sort, a maybe a natural catastrophe," said Tehran Von Ghasri, a West Hollywood property owner. "I didn't imagine this was going to be a water main break, especially with the noises and the flooding."

"I've never experienced this before in the neighborhood, like a complete halt ... gridlock," said West Hollywood resident Ikill Orion. "You would think it was a hurricane or earthquake or something like that."

Same street, new blowout

As crews responded, ABC7 helicopter reporter Scott Reiff recalled covering another significant water infrastructure failure on Sunset Boulevard more than a decade ago.

It happened on July 30, 2014, in Westwood near the UCLA campus, where a water main break erupted in the middle of Sunset Boulevard. Video from the ABC7 archives shows the high-pressure break sending a massive geyser of water into the air as floodwaters rushed down Sunset Boulevard and onto the UCLA campus.

The flooding inundated parking garages and athletic fields, creating dramatic scenes that were captured from the air. With the water receded, residents on Palm Avenue spent Friday shoveling mud and debris from flood-damaged properties.

"Yesterday was the spectacle," said Ken Alan, whose building was affected by the flooding. "It was the waterfall, it was a man-made river. Today is the aftermath."

Alan said an underground parking area filled completely with water. Meantime, resident Arnie Perras said two of his vehicles were lost in the flooding. Another parking garage on Hancock Avenue that housed about 50 vehicles was also inundated during the flooding.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power has not confirmed when repairs will be completed.

LADWP officials said drinking water remains safe, though some nearby buildings are experiencing low water pressure. The mayor has asked residents and businesses near the break to conserve water while repairs continue.

Officials said anyone with property or vehicle damage can file a claim through LADWP at ladwp.com/claims.

LADWP claims staff will be available to assist Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 1010 Palm Ave. They'll be able to answer any questions about property damage and claims.

Additional updates could be provided during a press conference expected later Friday morning.
