DIXON, CA (MPG) - City officials, business leaders and residents attended an afternoon July 8 ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the grand opening of Independence in Dixon, a new rental community developed by the Lewis Group of Companies.
The 4:30 p.m. event marked the official launch and honored several community leaders, introducing them to the Lewis Management staff.
“It’s a happy day for us,” said Lewis Management Corporation President Richard A. Lewis. “We’re looking forward to great opportunities in the city of Dixon. We’re glad to be here.”
Located in the heart of the city, 1905 N. First St., Independence in Dixon intends to bring a total of 186 modern rental homes to the area, starting with 22 units in November.
Lewis Management provided donations to four Dixon-based organizations. These include $1,000 to John Knight Middle School, $1,500 to Dixon High School, $1,500 to the JA Taylor Foundation and $1,000 to Dixon High School FFA. Rob White, Lewis Management’s Planned Communities vice-president, said that November is an estimated date and completion times could vary. The property will offer a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans. Two-bedroom rentals start around the high $2,000 range, whereas three-bedroom rentals start at the mid $3,000 range.
The community features an upscale amenities area, called the impact area. This area includes a resort-style heated pool, jacuzzi, spa, fitness center and outdoor grills.
“One-hundred-and-eighty-six total units in duplexes, so that makes 93 buildings plus the impact area. We plan to open 22 units a month, called turns,” White said.
White led much of the discussion regarding the new property, addressing attendees and the City of Dixon as a whole. White went on to recognize Lewis staff and various local organizations and representatives that make a difference in the community.
Present parties included the Dixon Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and president, Councilmember Kevin Johnson, Councilmember Don Hendershot, Superintendent Brett Barley, William Duncan representing Representative Mike Thompson and Mohamed Umbashi representing Assemblymember Lori D. Wilson.

Each group expressed their thanks for the donation.
Mayor Steve Bird thanked Lewis Management and welcomed them to the community.
“I think this is a momentous occasion in the sense that it is a new, fresh opportunity in the City of Dixon. Thank you, Lewis; you are officially part of our community,” Bird said.
Board chair Crystal Rico of the Dixon Chamber of Commerce also addressed the crowd, reinforcing Bird’s words. Lewis Management is a generational family business that is now a member of the Chamber of Commerce. Independence in Dixon is the first product of its kind in the Lewis Management portfolio and Lewis staff will operate almost the entire facility, alongside local hires.
