Grayson’s 37-22 loss to North Gwinnett (Ga.) at the 35th annual Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic was a one off, than Friday night likely sounded the alarm on the nationally ranked Rams. Or soon enough, previously nationally ranked Rams as Sandy Creek (Ga.) became the latest team to upend Grayson.
The Patriots overcame waiting out a weather delay and stunned No. 19 nationally ranked Grayson 21-13. For the second week in a row, the Rams fall as head coach Greg Carswell starts off his tenure at 0-2 and it doesn’t get too much easier in the coming weeks for Grayson.
When the game entered a lightning delay in the third quarter with less than 10 minutes remaining, the Patriots were up 14-7 on the Rams and were able to extend that coming out of the break. Sandy Creek pushed their lead to a two-score advantage when 2028 4-star cornerback Nathan Holston scored on a touchdown grab to push the Patriots ahead to 21-7.
The Rams continued to fight back and with less than four minutes left in the game were able to cut it to a one-score lead as 2028 3-star wide receiver Cameron Hurst scored on a touchdown throw from quarterback Deuce Smith to cut it to 21-13.
Though Grayson was able to get it down to a one-possession game, the Rams weren’t able to get another chance on offense as the Patriots were able to take a knee and run out the clock. Sandy Creek joins North Gwinnett as two teams that have surprised early on as Grayson looks to figure out things here in the early part of the season.
Both teams will go on the road next week as Sandy Creek will travel to take on Douglas County (Ga.) and Grayson will remain away from the friendly confines of home to face off against a very good Langston Hughes squad.

Miami Carol City's hopes of competing for a Florida high school football state championship have taken a major hit following a postgame brawl with Georgia powerhouse Grayson last Friday.
The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) has banned Carol City from postseason competition and suspended 15 players for their involvement in the fight, which erupted following the Chiefs' 10-9 loss to Grayson on Oct. 2 in Loganville, Georgia, according to a report from Rivals.com.
The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) has also disciplined Grayson, suspending four players for one game each following its review of the incident.
The penalties come less than a week after video of the altercation spread across social media, drawing widespread attention to an ugly conclusion to a closely contested matchup between two prominent high school football programs.
According to a report Thursday by Andy Villamarzo of On3/Rivals, the FHSAA imposed sweeping penalties against Carol City after reviewing the incident.
Four Carol City players were reportedly suspended for the remainder of the season, nine received five-game suspensions and two were suspended for one game.
The school was also placed on restrictive probation and fined $1,500, or $100 for each suspended player.
Most significantly, the FHSAA declared Carol City ineligible for postseason competition during the 2026-27 school year, effectively ending the Chiefs' opportunity to pursue a state football championship unless the ruling is overturned.
Carol City reportedly plans to appeal the decision Thursday.
The sanctions arrive at a particularly difficult time for the Chiefs, who are scheduled to face Miami Northwestern on Friday, Oct. 9, in one of South Florida's most anticipated rivalry matchups.
The availability of Carol City's suspended players for that game could depend on the status and outcome of the school's appeal.
Grayson, which escaped with a one-point victory in the Oct. 2 matchup, has also faced disciplinary action.
The GHSA suspended four Grayson players for one game each following its investigation into the altercation.
Unlike Carol City, Grayson has not been reported to have received a postseason ban or team-wide probation stemming from the fight.

The latest sanctions are not Carol City's first encounter with the FHSAA disciplinary process this fall.
In September, the association ruled transfer cornerback Jailen Hill ineligible through August 2027 following findings involving eligibility verification, participation before enrollment and living arrangements.
That earlier case resulted in a $3,700 fine, the forfeiture of Carol City's victory over Mainland and administrative probation through September 1, 2027.

Both teams got into an all-out fight during the postgame pleasantries, resulting in videos being posted on social media of what had occurred between the interstate foes.
Now one state association has laid down the law regarding penalties stemming from the altercation between the teams on Tuesday afternoon. The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) has penalized Grayson, suspending four unnamed Rams’ players for one game due to their involvements in the brawl that happened after the game with the Chiefs. All player suspensions are able to be appealed by Grayson.
The FHSAA is still investigating the matter with anticipated suspensions forthcoming for Miami Carol City from the incident. The GHSA in a joint statement with the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) announced a zero-tolerance stance towards any aggressive altercation-like behavior.
“The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) and the Georgia High School Association(GHSA) are united in their commitment to upholding the highest standards of sportsmanship, integrity, and student-athlete safety,” the joint statement signed by GHSA Executive Director Dr. Tim Scott and FHSAA Executive Director Craig Damon reads. “The conduct displayed during the recent incident is unacceptable and does not reflect the values of education-based athletics. Both associations maintain a zero-tolerance stance toward altercations, bench-clearing incidents, and any actions that escalate into or create the appearance of a brawl. Such behavior undermines the educational mission of interscholastic athletics and jeopardizes the safety and well-being of participants, coaches, officials, and spectators.
“Participation in high school athletics is a privilege that carries the responsibility of demonstrating respect, self-discipline, and good sportsmanship. Member schools are expected to ensure that student-athletes, coaches, and support personnel conduct themselves in a manner that reflects positively on their schools and communities at all times. The FHSAA and GHSA are each conducting a thorough review of the incident in accordance with their respective rules, policies, and procedures. Upon completion of those reviews, each association will take appropriate action regarding its member schools) and any individuals found to have violated association bylaws, policies, or expectations of conduct.
While competitive excellence is an important aspect of interscholastic athletics, it must never come at the expense of sportsmanship, respect, or safety. Both associations remain steadfast in their commitment to holding schools and participants accountable and to ensuring that high school athletics continues to provide a positive and educational experience for all students. Grayson entered the season with high expectations under first-year head coach Greg Carswell, but the Rams started the 2026 season struggling right out of the gates, losing to North Gwinnett at the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic and then the following week to Sandy Creek on the road. The Rams are currently 3-3 on the season and ranked No. 10 in the state, according to the latest Georgia High School Football Massey Rankings.
The FHSAA has yet to determine the penalties for Miami Carol City, but it would become the latest issue for the Chiefs as they have already received sanctions from the Gainesville-based governing body this 2026 season.
Senior four-star cornerback Jailen Hill, who had transferred to Carol City from St. John Bosco (Calif.) this summer, had been ruled ineligible through August of 2027. The FHSAA found that Hill was participating with the program prior to his official enrollment, his academic eligibility was unable to be verified and he was living with a representative of the school’s athletic interest.
Miami Carol City had been assessed multiple monetary penalties totaling $3,700 and forced to forfeit wins over West Boca Raton (preseason) and Daytona Mainland (regular season), respectively. It has also been placed on administrative probation for one calendar year, ending on Sept. 1, 2027.

The Florida High School Athletic Association has banned the nationally ranked program from the 2026 football postseason and suspended 15 players following a postgame brawl with Grayson (GA), delivering one of the most significant disciplinary blows to a high school football program this season.
The FHSAA announced the sweeping sanctions on Wednesday, Oct. 7, after reviewing video evidence of the Oct. 2 incident and a report submitted by Carol City. The association determined that violations of its sportsmanship standards occurred.
Four players received Level 3 suspensions and are ineligible to compete in any contest through Dec. 13. Nine players received Level 2 suspensions and will miss the next five varsity football contests, while two players received Level 1 suspensions and will miss the next varsity football contest.
Players were not named in the FHSAA's disciplinary letter, which was obtained by USA TODAY Sports.

The Carol City football program has been placed on restrictive probation and is prohibited from participating in football postseason competition during the 2026-27 school year. The school also was fined $1,500, which equates to $100 for each involved student-athlete. They also must host an Athletic Department Compliance Workshop.
The postseason ban means that, under the current ruling, the Chiefs will be ineligible for the state playoffs, including the new Open Division, regardless of how they finish the regular season.
Carol City can appeal the player suspensions to the FHSAA Sectional Appeals Committee. The restrictive probation, meanwhile, can be appealed to the FHSAA Board of Directors. If an appeal is filed, the school's superintendent, principal and head coach must be present at the hearing.
The Chiefs entered the season ranked inside the USA TODAY Super 25. A postseason berth in Florida's new Open Division would have provided an opportunity to compete for the state's top championship under first-year head coach Toro Wallace.
Instead, the program is now facing the possibility of having its season end after the regular season. This is not the first FHSAA issue to engulf Carol City this season.
Earlier this year, four-star Nebraska commit Jailen Hill was ruled ineligible by the FHSAA, creating another significant eligibility issue for the program. The case resulted in additional sanctions against Carol City, including forfeited games and monetary penalties.
That history makes Wednesday's decision particularly significant for the Chiefs, who now must deal with both the immediate impact of 15 player suspensions and a postseason ban that could end their championship hopes, pending an appeal.
What began as a handshake line between Grayson and Carol City football players following a one-point game quickly descended into a chaotic postgame fight Friday night, Oct. 2.
Grayson had just defeated Carol City 10-9 when tensions boiled over during the postgame handshake line.
Players from both teams exchanged words and began shoving one another before the confrontation escalated into punches after someone in the Grayson handshake line appeared to tell the Carol City side to "go back to 7-on-7." Within seconds, the altercation spread beyond the handshake line, with players from both teams becoming involved in multiple skirmishes across the field.
Video of the incident showed players running toward the commotion as the fight intensified.
In one of the most serious moments captured on video, a Grayson player was knocked to the ground as several Carol City players gathered around him. In the video, multiple players appear to strike the Grayson player while he is on the ground before a Carol City coach moves into the group and helps pull players away.
The fight continued to spread, with players pushing, grabbing and throwing punches as coaches and others attempt to separate them.
Eventually, the groups were pulled apart, and the field began to clear.
As previously reported by USA TODAY Sports, the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) has suspended four Grayson players for their involvement in the postgame altercation.
Those players will face one-game suspensions and will miss Friday's regional opener against Archer (4-2). Grayson has the right to appeal under GHSA guidelines.
"Identifying all participants was difficult because the game had ended and there was no video available showing the entire field," GHSA Executive Director Tim Scott said in a release. "As emphasized in the joint statement, participation in high school athletics is a privilege that carries a responsibility to demonstrate respect, self-discipline and good sportsmanship. Competitive excellence should never come at the expense of sportsmanship, respect or safety. The final whistle ends the competition, but the responsibility to demonstrate good sportsmanship does not end with it."
