KINSMAN, Ohio (WKBN) — A township in northern Trumbull County is seeing growth in the form of new businesses. In the last month, three new businesses have opened up in Kinsman, all within a half-mile stretch of Main Street.
Whiskey & Wool is one of the new businesses in town.
“It was just the right alignment that everybody decide to do it all at once,” said Kay Burr with Whiskey & Wool. “We welcome any fiber art, whether you crochet or you knit [or quilt] to come and join us, and just have time to sit around and do our arts together, bounce ideas off of one another, and to be with like-minded people.”
Located inside a historic home, the primitive fiber arts shop offers hand-dyed wool and other supplies for cross stitching, rug hooking, and punch needling.
“Even if you don’t do any of our crafts, if you want to learn, we’re happy to teach you, and if you just want to sit and watch, that’s fine, too,” said Stacey Banning with Whiskey & Wool.
Diagonally across the street, Red Plum Pizza & Pasta is serving up pies at its second location in the county.
Just down the road in what was the township’s first pharmacy, Jade’s Events & Design Company opened its doors. Upstairs, there’s a thrift store and a rental hangout room. Other small businesses without brick-and-mortar stores are renting space or shelving on the first floor.
Owner Emily Harnett will also be using the building to teach cooking, home design, and thrifting classes.
“I think Kinsman is coming alive again,” Harnett said. “It just gives the community a place to come to do something fun, an interactive activity, and people are excited about it.”
The new storefronts are a welcome sight for Kinsman.
“We live in the community, therefore we are invested in the community,” Burr said. “A lot of things are happening right now in Kinsman, and we’re happy and proud to be a part of the small community.”
