Home Care In Landrum, SC

Home Care Landrum, SC

They say that your golden years are the best years of your life. For most older Americans, that's how it should be - a time to relax, reflect, and live life in a familiar place. After all, senior citizens in the U.S. have worked tirelessly to build a better economy, serve their communities, and raise families.

However, as seniors grow older, completing daily tasks like showering and enjoying activities such as visiting the historic Landrum Depot gets harder without someone by their side. Unfortunately, many older Americans aren't able to rely on their adult children for help. The reality in today's world is that family members do not have the skills or time to dedicate to caring for their parents. That's where Always Best Care Senior Services comes in.

Our in-home care services are for people who prefer to stay at home as they grow older but need ongoing care that family or friends cannot provide. More and more older adults prefer to live far away from long-term, institutionalized facilities and closer to the place where they feel most comfortable - their home. Home care in Landrum, SC is a safe, effective way to give your loved ones the care they need when they need it the most.

The Always Best Care Difference

Since 1996, Always Best Care has provided non-medical in-home care for seniors to help them maintain a healthy lifestyle as they get older. We are proud to have helped more than 25,000 seniors maintain higher levels of dignity and respect. We focus on providing seniors with the highest level of in-home care available so that they may live happily and independently.

Unlike some senior care companies, we genuinely want to be included in our clients' lives. We believe that personalized care is always the better option over a "one size fits all" approach. To make sure our senior clients receive the best care possible, we pair them with compassionate caregivers who understand their unique needs. That way, they may provide care accordingly without compromising their wellbeing.

The Always Best Care difference lies in life's little moments - where compassionate care and trustworthy experience come together to help seniors live a fruitful, healthy life. Whether you are an aging adult that can't quite keep up with life's daily tasks or the child of a senior who needs regular in-home services, Always Best Care is here to help.

“Bruce at Always Best Care was amazing to work with. He was patient and understanding of my dad's reluctance to accept assistance. When my dad finally agreed to assistance, it was over the weekend and it was an emergency situation. Bruce assembled a team, working through the weekend, to assist my dad as quickly as possible. Before the team was able to come help my dad, he suffered chest pains and was admitted to the hospital. Sadly, he passed away four days later. Nonetheless, Bruce was there with me every step of the way offering support and advice to ensure my dad received the best care in the hospital. Though we never got to use Bruce's services, I would 100% hands down recommend using them if your loved one needs care and support. They are professional, compassionate, and truly care about their clients--even when they aren't yet clients. You won't find a more dedicated team to ensure your loved ones are cared for.”

“I was looking for 24 hr home care for my mother who was living alone after my Dad's passing. My mother also had Dementia. ABC was recommended by her PCP. I was immediately impressed with my 1st meeting with their Senior Program Coordinator. She took detailed notes about the daily routine. My mind was set at ease when she explained their COVID protocols which included wiping down surfaces, mask requirements and unannounced periodic supervisor check-ins on caregivers. Daily each caregiver maintained meticulous documentation on my mother's daily routines - when she got up - what she ate. They also handled mail sorting and other sensitive confidential information. I was particularly impressed with the professional and caring demeanor of the caregivers. Shift changes overlapped allowing caregivers time to share pertinent information and there was often training from senior caregivers to junior team members about handling transfers and safety. ABC is a first class well run home care providing company.”

“When my father fell and broke his arm, we needed help quickly as my mother has Alzheimers. We meet with Bruce on Monday and by Wednesday, we had caregivers in the home 7/24. I've been a recruiter for 22 years and I know that finding good people is hard work. ABC has some fantastic employees and they have been a welcome addition to the home during this transition to Assisted Living. Bruce and his team answered our call day and night and responded quickly and professionally. There are always bumps when you are starting a new project, but it's how you handle them that is important. I have the utmost respect for Bruce and his team and I recommend them if you need care for a family member.”

“So I have known Bruce Meyer for quite some time now. He came at a time where I was struggling to find a job. God sure does work in amazing ways. He was the reason I said yes to the job. It wasn’t just another interview where they just hired anybody. It was a place where I could feel comfortable and not nervous and leave the “interview” knowing I had found a wonderful place to work for. I’ll never forget that day when I agreed to take it because of the words he spoke to me. He said “God is calling you to walk through the doors. “ That alone will tell you how wonderful he is and the care that he gives to those he believes is a good fit for the job. I have been working for Always Best Care since September of 2020. Ever since I started I knew I was in the right hands with the best company I could have ever asked for. They go above and beyond to give exceptional care/ support to the clients, families, and staff.I have heard nothing but positive feedback from anyone I come In contact to that receive their services. I am truly blessed to call this not only my job but my family.”

What is Non-Medical Senior Care in Landrum, SC?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local Stone Soup or visit Klickety-Klack Bridge, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Landrum, SC, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

 Elderly Care Landrum, SC

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your SC's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.
 Senior Care Landrum, SC

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Landrum, SC understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

The Best Things To Do In Landrum, South Carolina

Landrum is known for its gorgeous landscapes, so you won’t want to waste a second indoors. Start with a drive to see Campbell’s Covered Bridge, which is the state’s only remaining covered bridge. Constructed between 1909 and 1911, snag some photos with the iconic red pine covering that spans across Beaverdam Creek. A short drive away, you’ll find Poinsett Bridge, the oldest remaining stone bridge in South Carolina and one of the oldest in the South. Some say the bridge is haunted, but regardless of if you’re not a fan of the paranormal, you’ll want to see 16-foot Gothic archway for yourself.

After a short driving tour, get out and stretch your legs at the Blue Wall Preserve, a 575-acre preserve where hiking trails crisscross all around the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains. A favorite hike to check out is the Palmetto Trail at Blue Wall, an easy 2.7-mile route along the Blue Wall Passage of the Palmetto Trail. The extended hike runs through downtown Landrum and Lake Lanier for 14 miles. If you visit Landrum in the late spring or early summer, be sure to make a stop at Elf Leaf Farm, a family-owned operation offering you-pick lavender. While Landrum offers a fair share of excellent Southern and homestyle cooking, that’s not the only cuisine the tiny town excels in. Head to Soulisa’s Fine Thai Dining for a creative menu of Thai, Japanese, and fusion eats. Order the Pad Karee Roast Duck and decide how hot you want your curry on a scale of 1 to 10. Sushi lovers will also be pleased to find an extensive selection. A platter for two includes two specialty rolls, two orders of nigiri, and two orders of sashimi for just $55.

Each cottage is equipped with a full kitchen, elegant chandeliers, 11-foot ceilings, and a whirlpool tub. Your refrigerator is stocked with eggs and milk for breakfast, and there’s also a daily delivery of pastries from a local bakery. Home away from home has never been sweeter.

LANDRUM, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - As winter sports teams compete for state championships, Landrum High School sent off its girls basketball team to its first state title game since 1975.

Students and teachers lined the hallway this morning to clap and cheer on the historic team.

“To walk through basically a tunnel of their classmates and teachers and them sharing a moment. I’m not going to lie, I may have gotten a little misty-eyed there at one point,” Landrum High School Principal Kegan Flynn said. “It was just exciting to see all the work they’ve done pay off.”

After boarding the bus, the players soaked in the moment while yelling proudly in their seats.

“I’m very excited, very anxious,” Landrum High School Athletic Director Mike Gentry said. “I can’t sit down, I’ll be up on my feet just like I was last Saturday in Florence, I can’t sit down for this.”

“See you in Florence!” several players shouted out the bus window at their supporters.

Landrum took its 27-3 record on the three-hour trip to Florence while looking for its first basketball state championship, boys or girls, in school history.

But they came up just short. Landrum lost 78-60 to Andrew Jackson for the Class 2A state title.

“I’m just so proud of these girls. They just played really well this year,” Landrum Head Coach Jared St. Charles said. “We put a great season together. We came up just short today, but that Andrew Jackson team is really good.”

Landrum cut the lead to only three points a few times in the second half, but it wasn’t quite enough to make even more school history. Players and coaches hugged each other tightly with tears rolling down their faces after the tough loss.

Losing the final game doesn’t erase the pride and performance they showed the state.

“My girls never quit,” St. Charles said. “I’ve had lots of good teams. But this team is right up there. As far as never quitting, they’re right up there towards the top.”

Principal Flynn said the coach of the Landrum girl’s team from the only other time they made the state championship game in 1975, Harry McMillan, came by the school this week and rattled off names of girls he coached in that game 50 years ago. He felt the same pride in this year’s team and town that he felt back then.

Have you been thinking about checking out Campbell’s Covered Bridge? This bridge is the last remaining covered bridge in South Carolina. At this Greenville County property, you can explore the bridge, enjoy a picnic by the creek and even get in a short hike.

The area of the park near the bridge is currently undergoing renovation and restoration. Access to that portion of the park may be limited.

Campbell’s Covered Bridge was built in 1909 by Charles Willis Irwin. Signage in the park says the bridge was named for Lafayette Campbell who owned the land at the time of its construction. Today, it is owned by Greenville County and the property has been turned into a small but lovely park.

Where is Campbell’s Covered Bridge?

171 Campbell Covered Bridge RoadLandrum, SC 29356

While the bridge address is in Landrum, it is really quite close to northern Greer and Taylors. As you pull into the main entrance of the park off Pleasant Hill Road (114) you’ll pull directly into a gravel parking lot. My GPS wanted me to turn onto a private road before I was quite to the parking lot for Campbell’s Covered Bridge. I just had to continue driving a few seconds before I saw the well-marked entrance.

As soon as you open your car door you’ll hear Beaverdam Creek and feel like you are off relaxing by a mountain creek somewhere much, much farther away. We’d had a rough morning and opening that door was like instant calm. You’ll see Campbell’s Covered Bridge from the parking lot, as it crosses the creek.

What can you do at Campbell’s Covered Bridge?

This park has a beautiful half-mile nature trail. It is unpaved and not suitable for strollers. While it is a bit hilly it is definitely walkable for little ones. You’ll walk along the creek and turn up a hill and around to a clearing on a hill with a pretty view of the bridge and some benches. The path continues on through the woods and exits at the parking lot.

The bridge is open to walk on and you can get down to the creek from either side of the bridge. The creek is shallow and fairly wide with lots of flat rocks to sit on while you look at the water. This area is all shaded by trees making it quite cool.

Off to the side of the bridge along the creek is the foundation from the grist mill that was located on this property. It’s fun to explore and quite picturesque. There’s a picnic table in the center of this foundation, which we thought was a pretty spectacular place for a picnic. You’ll find other picnic tables spread around the property, as well as benches throughout the park, both in the shade by the creek and up on the hill in the sun. While there are lots of great picnic spots here, there are no restrooms, so you’ll want to plan ahead for that.

This park also doesn’t have a playground. But the kids will be entertained hunting around the banks of the creek, examining the bridge, and walking on the trail. There are also some great spots with the perfect scenery for family photos at this park.

Tip From A Reader: About 6 miles from the covered bridge, is David Jackson Park. You’ll find bathrooms and a playground at David Jackson Park. Swing by before or after your visit to the covered bridge for some playtime and a restroom!

Drawbacks:

This park is a great stop to enjoy the outdoors for an hour or so. Sure it doesn’t have a playground, but the other unique features add some variety to a typical park day. We love this one for its woodsy feel and of course the bridge and the creek. So check it out and let us know what you love about Campbell’s Covered Bridge!

LANDRUM, S.C. —

An Upstate chef is now a two-time Food Network competitor.

Sarah McClure, chef and co-owner of Southside Smokehouse in Landrum, recently competed on the popular competition show "Guy’s Grocery Games" for the second time.

In 2020, McClure’s first episode aired. She came in second place with a shrimp and grits dish.

The latest episode, which aired last week, was a "redemption" episode and featured other chefs who didn’t take home the title the first time around.

McClure says even though she didn’t end up in the final two this time, she is always proud to represent the Upstate.

“I’m obviously super proud to represent Landrum and South Carolina and just the South in general. Southern cooking is really having a moment right now, but I think a lot of times it’s still very pigeon-holed,” she said. “People outside of the South tend to think it’s gotta be a certain way– it’s gotta be unhealthy. It’s gotta be fried. It’s gotta be greasy or, you know, they have these very old school interpretations of southern food. So, showing people that even someone who is not classically trained, someone who is from a small family restaurant, someone who is from a small town, can compete on a national stage with people from all over the country.”

McClure says she is not the first chef from Landrum to appear on the show.

She says Chef Shawne Shell, who has worked at the Hare & Hound in Landrum, competed on the show several years ago, as well.

“I think it’s pretty cool that a really small town like Landrum that you may not really think of has two people that have been on a Food Network show,” she said.

McClure says since appearing on the show, she has received several frequently asked questions from fans and foodies alike.

“The biggest thing that people always ask me is, they’re like, ‘Is it really that much of a surprise? Did you really not know what you were going to get beforehand? Is it really only 30 minutes?’ And the answer to that is 100% yes. It is—really, really, truly,” she said. “And like, when you see them messing with the time clock–like in our episode, they were distracting us and counting down before we actually started running through the store- that is for real. That really took away like two minutes of our shopping time.”

In fact, in the latest episode, McClure was so pressed for time, she didn’t even get a chance to taste her dish. But, she says she was so excited to cook with the unique ingredients that she special-ordered them when she arrived back in South Carolina and prepared the same dish right here in the Upstate.

“We actually have this dish on the menu at the smokehouse right now. You can try the dish that I cooked on Food Network,” she said. “And I got it on [the menu] for the first time last night. A couple of my bar regulars said it was fabulous, so hopefully, if you guys come and check it out, you’ll agree.”

According to Southside Smokehouse’s Facebook page, the dish is “petite lamb chops, fiddlehead ferns shoots, morel mushrooms and Merguez sausage over ricotta whipped sweet potato and a ricotta mint cream sauce.”

If you missed McClure’s first episode of "Guy’s Grocery Games," you can watch it online.

McClure says the most recent episode is not posted online yet, but you can watch it again on the Food Network on Wednesday, June 28, at 8 p.m. ET and Thursday, June 29, at 3 a.m. ET.
