PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. — World Market celebrated the grand opening of its Palm Beach Gardens location Friday, bringing its signature collection of globally-inspired home goods and international foods to South Florida.
The new store at the Prosperity Centre shopping center represents a significant milestone for the California-based retailer, which has been planning and preparing for the opening in Palm Beach Gardens for two years.
"We are beyond excited to be here. It's been a long journey, but we are thrilled to be in the community," said Carrie Crooker, World Market's senior vice president of stores. Crooker, a 20-year veteran of the company, traveled to Palm Beach Gardens to personally oversee the launch of the new location.
Among the eager customers lining up for the grand opening were Michael and Heather Sharin, local residents who live just over the bridge from the new shopping center.
"When we go to Tallahassee to visit our son, there's been a World Market there, and that's the first place I want to go," Heather Sharin said. "And when I heard it was coming here, well, here I am. It's opening day!"
The decision to establish World Market's South Florida presence in Palm Beach Gardens was thanks to the welcoming community.
"This community is just an amazing, it has everything to offer," Crooker said. "It has diverse clientele here, lots of customers that have traveled all over the world that want to experience fun things. They are explorers and entertainers, and it fits our brand."
For shoppers like the Sharins, World Market's appeal lies in its unique product mix that sets it apart from traditional retailers.
"I like to look at things that are from all over the world," Heather said. "But also they have food, and they have beverages, and different kinds of drinks that I've never seen anywhere else. It's just kind of unique. It has things that the other stores don't have."
Michael Sharin echoed his wife's sentiment about the store's distinctive offerings.
"It's not just a supermarket, it's not just a furniture store— It's the everything store," Michael said.
The Palm Beach Gardens location transforms the former Office Depot space into World Market's signature shopping experience.
"They will find a lot to explore. It's quite a treasure hunt here," Crooker explained, describing what first-time visitors can expect.
The store features World Market's trademark international food department with products sourced from around the globe, alongside an extensive selection of furniture, home décor, and seasonal items. With Halloween and holiday merchandise already on display, the timing of the opening allows local shoppers to explore everything from harvest decorations to early holiday shopping options.
"So whether you are getting ready for a big Halloween party, getting ready for the fall and Thanksgiving, or you want to get some early shopping done for holiday, we're here for you," Crooker said.
The arrival of World Market also contributes to the continued revitalization of the Prosperity Centre shopping plaza, including the opening of Plum Market next door in March.
"I'm just happy because it makes this shopping center full again," Heather Sharin said.
Friday's grand opening featured samples from around the world, giving visitors a taste of the international experience World Market brings to the Palm Beach Gardens community. The celebration marked not just the opening of a new retail location, but the arrival of a brand that Crooker believes fills a unique niche in the local market.
"We're here to bring something to Palm Beach Gardens that I think the community needs, and I think they are going to have so much fun in our stores," Crooker said.
The Palm Beach Gardens store operates Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m, and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Koepka, the Palm Beach County native who lives in Jupiter, returned to the PGA Tour agreeing to several conditions for 2026, including having to play his way into Signature Events and not being eligible for the playoff. Koepka had an uneven season with one top 10, and six top-25 finishes, in 16 starts. He did not play in any of the eight Signature Events.
Koepka's highest finish was tied for ninth at the Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches.
The Skins Game, a made for television event, returned last year at the Jack Nicklaus and Justin Thomas designed Panther National in Palm Beach Gardens with Keegan Bradley, Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry and Xander Schauffele.
The competition returns to the original format of the Skins Game, which debuted in 1983, with each player starting with $0. Last year, the players started with $1 million and the amount went up or down based on whether a player won or lost a hole. Bradley won 11 skins for a total prize of $2.1 million, Tommy Fleetwood earned $1.7 million, Lowry made $200,000 and Schauffele was shut out.
Jupiter's Matt Kuchar is the defending PNC champion, having won in 2025 with son Cameron. He returns in 2026 to play with son, Carson. Boca Raton's Bernhard Langer, a six-time winner of the event, will play for the first time with daughter, Christina DeJong.
The event could mark the return of Tiger Woods to competitive golf. Woods was charged with DUI following a crash near his home on Jupiter Island on March 27. He entered a plea agreement Sept. 2 at a hearing in Martin County. Woods pleaded no contest to the reduced charge of reckless, willful driving. His driver's license was suspended for five years.
Woods has played the PNC five times with son Charlie, a senior at The Benjamin School. They finished runner-up twice, losing in a playoff to Langer and his son, Jason, in 2024.

The fast-growing bakery chain Crumbl Cookies has hit a rough patch that could change the number of places Florida residents can get the signature oversized cookies with rotating flavors.
The company's fortunes have changed dramatically since it became a social media sensation, drawing millions of followers and customers eager to try its latest limited-time flavors.
Crumbl has closed at least 57 stores in 2026. Customer traffic has fallen sharply and one franchise operator has filed for bankruptcy, according to industry reports. An effort to boost sales by adding dirty sodas — soft drinks mixed with flavored syrups, cream and other ingredients — has also fallen short of expectations.
The company has not published a complete state-by-state list of closures. However, closures confirmed by Fast Company include locations in 10 states, including California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, and Pennsylvania. An unofficial tracker also lists stores in Alabama and New Jersey.
None of that means every location is struggling. The chain operates through independently owned franchises, and performance can vary substantially from one market to another.
The only Florida location to close thus far has been in Jupiter at 1695 West Indiantown Road.

The experience of a Kentucky couple illustrates how quickly things have changed.
In February 2024, Rick and Emily Diamond were celebrating the opening of their third Crumbl location in the Louisville area.
Their first two stores were thriving, ranking among the top 25 percent and 15 percent of Crumbl locations for sales, according to a Nation's Restaurant News profile published at the time.
Rick Diamond, a former accountant, had wanted to become his own boss after the pandemic. Emily became interested in Crumbl after visiting the company's original Utah store.
The couple liked the cookies, the company's attention to detail and its social media appeal. They were confident enough in the business to open a third store, next to a Kroger grocery store.
But the picture looks much different two years later.
Red Sheep St. Matthews LLC, the company behind their third location, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection on Oct. 1 in federal court in Kentucky, seeking to liquidate its assets.
The business reported more than $352,000 in liabilities, according to Inc. magazine.
The bankruptcy involves the St. Matthews franchise operation, not Crumbl's parent company. The couple's two other stores were not part of that filing.
Crumbl's difficulties extend beyond one franchise.
Sales in August 2026 were 70 percent lower than two years earlier, according to an internal company document cited by Restaurant Business.
Customer traffic across the chain's more than 1,000 locations was down 32 percent from a year earlier, according to data from location analytics company Placer.ai cited in an earlier Inc. report.
The downturn follows years of rapid expansion that transformed Crumbl from a single Utah bakery, founded in 2017, into a national franchise.
That growth has brought its own challenges. Restaurant franchise experts say expanding too quickly can leave operators competing for customers in markets that cannot support so many locations.
Crumbl's new drink lineup failed to boost sales as expected.
In 2025, CEO Jason McGowan projected that dirty sodas would increase sales by 20 percent and boost average annual store revenue from $1.1 million to $2 million.
The beverages were meant to drive visits outside of weekly cookie releases.
