Opened just 2 ½ years ago in Haddonfield, Gouldsburger’s yesterday opened their sixth location (Sicklerville) and have 5 more in the works including Marlton, Glassboro and Cinnaminson!
I stopped in at the new Cross Keys Road Sicklerville location for Gouldsburger’s yesterday around their Grand Opening time to find an already very busy restaurant serving up incredible cheesesteaks, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, truffle fries and more.
The new Sicklerville location which opened just yesterday is at 685 Berlin Cross Keys Road in a small strip of stores directly across from the Royal Farms… with Gouldsburger’s moving in next to the Breakfast Nook.
While the original Haddonfield location is take-out only, for Sicklerville they have enough space to have put a front dining area in with several tables in the space and two wall counters.
Gouldsburger’s was founded by Walter Gouldsbury and Dave Murray… and for the Sicklerville location it’s a franchise location owned by Dave’s brother Mike!
Mike is bringing the entire delicious Gouldsburger’s menu and design to Sicklerville Gloucester Township, but he’s added his own significant touches utilizing his graphics art skills to decorate the walls with dozens of iconic South Jersey logos and fun images. You’ll notice something new with each visit!
It was supposed to be a quiet first day with a post ahead of the opening at Mike’s personal Facebook page, which then got picked up by Marilyn of South Jersey Food Scene.
I waited for opening day and stopped in around 11:30 and did a live stream at my Facebook page which so far has been seen by over 65,000 people! (Facebook Livestream)
Dave tells me the first day ended up jam-packed serving hundreds of customers, and already that busy Sicklerville restaurant crowd has carried into today Friday.
Gouldsburger’s – Super South Jersey Success Story
If you’re unfamiliar with Gouldsburger’s, they are an incredible sandwich success story for South Jersey and the Philadelphia area, where the initial star of the show was their delicious burgers.
But what has really catapulted them into the upper stratosphere of success in such a short amount of time is their cheesesteaks which feature the highest quality prime beef, Cooper sharp cheese and freshly baked rolls with a very unique delicious twist.
Well as a background, everything on the Gouldsburger’s menu is premium ingredients, recipes and preparation. Their slogan in fact is “Good Food, Done Right”.
So for the cheesesteaks it wasn’t enough to use ribeye.. they had to go with a prime cut of beef which is of the level you would find at a top big bity steakhouse. and then they jam-pack the sandwich!
And while you have some choices of cheese their standard recipe option is cooper sharp which does add a nice little extra flavor to the bite. And of course you have to round out the experience with freshly grilled opnions!
But it’s the rolls that caught everyone’s attention which when tasted they quickly went from “well that’s a bit adventurous” to… “oh this makes so much delicious sense”!
Finally to the big secret.. the signature roll for Gouldsburger’s cheesesteaks are coated with Everything Bagel Seasoning!
I have to be honest yesterday was the first time I tried a Gouldsburger’s cheesesteak and I absolutely get it!
To be clear it’s not a full coating of Everything Bagel seasoning, but there’s enough across the entire roll to give every bite a little extra flavor profile that you don’t find in any other cheesesteak in the Philadelphia area.
The idea for this came from their other restaurant in Haddonfield, Crumb… where that menu offers everything bagels. One day just experimenting in the kitchen they thought “why not make a cheese steak on Everything bagel?”
Everyone who tried it thought it was delicious… so absolutely the next step in the process was to create a roll with the everything seasoning baked into the outer crust.
The menu also features burgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, truffle fries and more.
During my visit yesterday I had a chance to meet again with Mike who I’ve met a couple times before, his wife… and then of course Walter and David the founders.
Gouldsburger’s – New Locations
I had already known that Glassboro was on the radar, but I didn’t know the location at the time.
Earlier this week Walter and David were featured in Philadelphia Style magazine, where in the article they talked about the start of the restaurant, the success they are having and where they are headed.
They mention that six new locations were planned, and then when the team shared the article to their Instagram page… they added in that South Jersey locations are also coming to Glassboro, Marlton and Cinnaminson!
I’m scouring the internet and I don’t think anybody knows about these locations!
And then what really surprised me is they list timing for these location and have Marlton as December 2025!
As of right now I don’t know where Marlton and Cinnaminson are opening but I do know that Glassboro is coming to High Street, and will be taking over the space which has been home to Cono Pizza and Ice Cream.
This general area in Glassboro is seeing a lot of focus from development such as across the street new Townhomes are currently being developed, and in the corner directly next to the new Gouldsburger’s Glassboro location a new bar, restaurant and event space was approved…. which will be operated by the Bogey’s restaurant family of Pitman.
I have another message in to Dave regarding the Marlton location because with December being only 2 months away, I think we should be able to lock in a location!
More on that later
