A popular Mexican restaurant has spread its wings to open a second location in another part of South Jersey.
Julio’s on Main has been a staple in Vineland for years. A second location, Julio's Casa de la Birria, has launched in Sewell.
The restaurant had a soft opening Jan. 17 and a regular opening four days later at 309 Fries Mill Road in the Echo Plaza, a space where Boardwalk Grill & Pizzeria once operated.
“We opened in Sewell, Washington Township area, due to the customer demand,” Julio’s co-owner Cesar Hernandez said in an email response to the Courier-Post. “We have tried several times to find a location north of Vineland to keep spreading our cuisine throughout South Jersey.
"This location in Echo Plaza finally made sense. Financially and logistically."
According to Hernandez, they'd first looked at this site a few years ago, then returned to it as an option when others didn't meet all of their criteria.
"We are very fortunate to have such great support in Cumberland County and throughout South Jersey,” he said.

Julio’s on Main, which also runs a food truck, has been known for its birria tacos and other authentic Mexican food.
Last year, Julio’s on Main moved a few spaces down in Vineland’s Magnolia Court shopping center, occupying a much larger space that was once Main Meat Market. The move enabled it to transition from a small takeout restaurant to a full BYOB sit-down restaurant.
Hernandez said that their operation continues to grow and expand, and that they have plans in the works for more locations to come.
“There should be another location mid-to-late year,” said Hernandez, who co-owns the restaurants with his wife, Christine Dahl. “The new locations starting with this will be called Julio’s Casa de la Birria.
"So of course, we will specialize in our birria that is ever so popular but also keeping staple dishes like our empanadas, tamales and of course the street corn.”
