TESTIMONIALS

“I am a current client of this provider My brother is getting service from Always Best Care of Jersey South. So far, they've been good and responsive. The way that we have the care set up, they come two hours in the morning and two hours at night. There aren't many care providers that do the split hours, but it's necessary for our situation and they've done that. The cost is comparable, they all seem to be charging the same amount. In the three weeks, there were two times that the provider came at the last minute. There was a car accident, it happened twice, and in both situations, they found a replacement to come out.”

What is Non-Medical Senior Care in Voorhees Township, NJ?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. So, if you've always wanted to eat at the local Library II or visit Indian King Tavern Museum, don't feel bad. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in Voorhees Township, NJ, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your NJ's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in Voorhees Township, NJ understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care Voorhees Township, NJ

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care
 Caregivers Voorhees Township, NJ

At Always Best Care, our representatives can match your senior's emotional, physical, and financial needs with viable assisted living communities nearby. Results are based on comparative data, so you can select the best choice for you or your loved one.

Always Best Care works closely with local senior living communities to gain valuable knowledge that we then use to help seniors and their loved ones make informed decisions. This information can include basic care and rent, resident availability, and services provided. Because Always Best Care is compensated by these communities, we provide senior living referral services at no extra cost to you.

Some of the most popular assisted living communities to consider in our area include the following:

  • The Residence at Voorhees
  • Brandywine Living at Voorhees
  • Brookdale Evesham
  • Brookdale Echelon Lake
  • Voorhees Senior Living
  • Lions Gate
Home Care Voorhees Township, NJ

For many seniors, moving into a senior living community revolves around how and when they want to make a transition to more involved care. Some seniors are more proactive about transitioning to independent living. Others choose to remain home until their care needs or other requirements are satisfied. Remember - our staff is here to help. Contact our office today to learn more about assisted living communities and how we can find a facility that exceeds your expectations.

Brad Caleb Kane On Making ‘Crystal Lake’ A “Small-Town Show” In Same N.J. Locations Where ‘Friday The 13th’ Filmed, “Faithfully” Re-Creating An Iconic Scene & “Twin Peaks-y” Plans For Season 2

As Crystal Lake brings Jason Voorhees fans to his roots, the Peacock prequel series takes the Friday the 13th franchise back to where it all began.

Series creator Brad Caleb Kane told Deadline “the amazing thing” about filming the eight-episode show — all episodes now available to stream — where the original 1980 slasher also filmed in Blairstown, NJ, is that the township “hasn’t changed in 45 years.”

“It’s still exactly the same,” explained Kane. “The structures are the same, maybe some paint jobs are different, and we had to do a little bit of that. But basically, it’s exactly the same town intact as it was 45 years ago, which is amazing.”

Fans of the original Sean S. Cunningham-helmed horror film might remember one of the opening scenes, in which camp counselor Annie Phillips (Robbi Morgan) hitchhikes through Crystal Lake, crossing a small bridge and cutting a corner in downtown Blairstown with a noticeable round red payphone on the sidewalk and visiting Trudy’s diner before meeting her demise.

In episode 4, “A New Beginning,” writers Evan Endicott and Josh Stoddard re-created the scene with a hitchhiking hippy named Willow (Oona Roche), even rebuilding the interior of Trudy’s diner on a soundstage.

Kane also emphasized the importance of filming in New Jersey, “because honestly, like trees look different in Jersey. You can’t re-create that feel anywhere else, so we wanted to re-create that feel and the only way to do it is in the same state.”

Although the nearby Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco, which is still an active camp and horror fan destination, was not available to stand in for Camp Crystal Lake as it once did in 1980, Kane and directors Celine Held and Logan George were able to rebuild the camp’s boathouse on a soundstage in order to “faithfully” re-create movie’s opening kill with his own twist in episode 5, “The New Blood”.

“It’s still there and it’s still intact, and we walked through it, because we couldn’t shoot there,” explained Kane. “And obviously now that you’ve seen the show, you know that we re-create a scene in that boathouse, shot-for-shot from the movie. Our great production designer Lester Cohen rebuilt it from scratch to the exact specifications at Camp Ocawasin in New Jersey, which was our campground that we created for the show.”

In addition to re-creating some memorable scenes and locations in the series about Jason Voorhees’ grieving mother Pam (Linda Cardellini), Crystal Lake also revisits some fan-favorite locals from screenwriter Victor Miller’s slasher in its cast of characters, including diner owner Trudy (played by Dorothy Kobs in the first movie, Bernadette Quigley in the prequel series), police officer Dorf (Ron Millke, Cameron Scoggins) and hermit Crazy Ralph (Walt Gorney, Nick Cordileone), as well as new faces, including Pam’s romantic interest, Officer Levon Brooks (William Catlett), his reporter sister Brianna (Devin Kessler) and Pam’s single friend Rita (Joy Suprano).

Kane found it “exciting” revisiting Crystal Lake and its residents through the series, which he envisions through a “Twin Peaks-y vibe.”

“I mean, this is a world that I return to over and over and over again,” he said. “I return to these movies, we all do, somehow. They became iconic for a reason. But there’s a lot we don’t know about the town. We meet these really colorful characters in the first movie, we meet Trudy and Officer Dorf and so-called Crazy Ralph, even though he turns out to have a point. But we don’t see that much of them ultimately. Some are dispatched, some are just there for momentary common comic relief.”

Kane continued, “And, you know, with a show like this, we have the opportunity to open it up and spend a little more time with them. Everybody loves a small-town show, and within the world of Friday the 13th, that just becomes more amplified and interesting.”

With a wealth of characters to explore (and eventually slaughter), Kane hopes to revisit Crystal Lake for another season. “I do have ideas for Season 2 in mind,” he confirmed.

“Obviously, it’s not just Pam’s story, it’s Crystal Lake, so you have all of the peripheral characters who are interesting to me,” explained Kane. “You have the opportunity for this to be more of a Twin Peaks-y kind of vibe, with Ralph and with Dorf and Trudy and all of those characters. There’s a lot more to get into with them. But obviously, the nexus is always gonna be Pam and Jason and their story.”

After giving fans “a little dopamine hit” with his nods to the original movie, Kane noted that the show “could run into the events” of Friday the 13th (1980) if Peacock gives them enough time.

“It wouldn’t happen in a second season,” Kane clarified. “There’s more story to tell, for the residents of Crystal Lake and to the extent that Linda wants to continue the journey with us, with Pam. So, we’ll see.”

As for Cardellini, she joked that she’s game to continue the show until Pam “kills every resident” of Crystal Lake.

Eleve Behavioral Health Explains How Its Intensive Outpatient Program Works for South New Jersey Patients

Eleve Behavioral Health published a plain-language explanation of its Intensive Outpatient Program, the level of care most adults in Camden County ask about first because it treats mental health and substance use conditions without an overnight stay. The program runs from the practice’s office at 1307 White Horse Rd Ste# A103, Voorhees Township, NJ 08043, serving Voorhees, Cherry Hill, and the wider South New Jersey area.

An intensive outpatient program sits between weekly therapy and full-day treatment. Patients attend structured group and individual sessions several days per week for a set number of hours, then return home the same day. At Eleve Behavioral Health the IOP treats anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, bipolar disorder, substance use disorders, drug rehab including alcohol, opioid, and stimulant addiction, and gambling disorder, with co-occurring conditions treated together rather than referred out.

Clinical programming combines cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, and acceptance and commitment therapy in group and individual formats. Psychiatric services and medication management run alongside therapy, and medication-assisted treatment with Suboxone, Subutex, or Vivitrol is available where clinically indicated. Patients who need more structure can step up to the practice’s Partial Hospitalization Program; patients completing treatment step down into aftercare with a written plan.

A typical week in the program combines group sessions with individual therapy and psychiatric check-ins scheduled across several weekdays. Gambling disorder treatment runs through the same structure, which matters in New Jersey, where legal online betting has widened the population seeking structured outpatient care. Family involvement is built into treatment where the patient consents to it, and pharmacogenetic DNA testing is available where medication response is a clinical question. The practice’s Joint Commission accreditation and LegitScript certification apply to the IOP as they do to every program it operates, and clinical content the practice publishes about the program carries medically reviewed bylines — both credentials are independently verifiable at their issuing organizations.

The program is built for adults who need treatment to fit around a job and a family: an intensive outpatient program in South New Jersey requires attendance several days a week, not a month-long absence from work and home.

Sessions are scheduled across several weekdays in daytime blocks, which is what separates the IOP from weekly outpatient therapy on one side and the full-day Partial Hospitalization Program on the other. Patients are reassessed on a set schedule, and the program a patient starts in is adjusted as clinical need changes rather than fixed at admission.

Candidacy for the program is confirmed in a clinical assessment before admission, and the practice verifies insurance coverage in advance. The full program description is published by Eleve Behavioral Health, where each condition treated has its own program page with candidacy criteria and treatment detail, and the practice profile is available through Eleve Behavioral Health on Google.

Bold but balanced Central Indian cuisine is the draw at this Voorhees strip mall star

For seekers of hauntingly complex sauces, there is one dish — the famously fiery Saoji curry simmered with goat — that is worth the drive to the Voorhees strip mall where Nagpuri Saoji serves up a rare taste of Central Indian cuisine.

But the sensation that lingered most in my imagination after my first visit to the restaurant was actually a memory of touch: the tactile pleasure of holding the pebbled surface of a warm sabudana fritter encrusted with tapioca pearls, then cracking the fryer-crisped baubles open to reveal steamy white centers of mashed potatoes laced with ginger, cilantro, and chilies. With a creamy pink chutney enriched with peanuts on the side, it was one of the most comforting starters I’ve nibbled this year.

For Swapna Sagdeo, the chef who co-owns this restaurant with husband Neeraj Sagdeo, the sabudanas offer a vivid portal to her childhood in Nagpur, India, where the fritters are a much-anticipated treat for children to snack on while adults fasted for religious holidays.

“Everybody [where I come from] has a childhood memory associated with it,” she said. “That is what we want to do here, to bring out that nostalgia.”

What distinguishes Sagdeo’s mission from so many other Indian restaurants in our area is her focus on the flavors of Central India. It’s a region that’s virtually unknown to many Americans who’ve long enjoyed the creamy curries and tandoor-roasted meats of Northern India and, especially over the past two decades, come to embrace the crispy dosas, coconut-kissed stews, and tamarind-tanged dishes of Southern India.

“Indian food in the U.S. is often represented through cuisines associated with cities and regions that have already established strong identities internationally, like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Hyderabad,” she said. “There’s so much culinary diversity beyond these places, and I think people from other regions want their food, culture, and identity to be recognized in their own right.”

Nagpur, the 13th largest city in India, is part of the state of Maharashtra and sits smack in the middle of the country — “like Kansas City,” Sagdeo said. Its culinary traditions are distinct, characterized by gravies spiced with earthy dried chilies; rustic flatbreads such as bakhri, made from grains like millet; and gram flour from dried chickpeas, which gets mashed with onions and spices into the traditional farmer’s lunch of zunka, which Nagpuri Saoji also serves.

Gram flour also factors into crispy pastry tubes called Nagpuri kothimbir vadi that get stuffed with well-spiced fistfuls of chopped cilantro. It’s an appetizer so rarely seen locally that one of Nagpuri’s customers made a point of stopping by our table on her way out to enthusiastically insist I try it. I bit into a freshly crisped order — it was like a hearty spring roll packed entirely with herbs — and was thrilled I followed her advice.

The namesake Saoji curry here is undoubtedly this restaurant’s primary draw. The Saoji style of cooking originated from the Halba Koshti community of weavers who migrated in the late 19th century from neighboring state Madhya Pradesh to work in the textile mills of Nagpur, where their fiery cooking, a local staple for millworkers, became widely popular.

The Sagdeo family’s rendition is an exercise in intricacy and balance, a blend of 27 different toasted spices, including multiple kinds of cumin and cardamom, poppy seeds, mace, star anise, cinnamon, fennel, bay leaves, a lichen known as blackstone flower, and two varieties of incendiary Bhiwapuri dried chilies. They’re all simmered into a fragrantly earthy chocolate-brown brew that is so famous for its tongue-scorching spice that I’ll admit to a little disappointment when Nagpuri’s standard rendition did not instantly set my lips ablaze.

“The one that we do is the mildest level we can go to,” concedes Sagdeo. “I prefer a ‘level zero’ myself, but we can go five levels up to ‘Nagpuri taste’ and that is what people eat back home.”

I’ll cautiously request one or two notches higher on my next visit. But what most impressed me was not so much its burn potential as how this curry made an effective canvas to amplify the natural flavors of whatever protein simmers inside it, like a prism. The chicken version of Saoji was noticeably lighter in body and flavor while the goat’s handle-like bones and tender meat infuse the sauce with a rustic, deeply magnetic savor.

The Sagdeos, who moved to South Jersey in 2011 to work in IT, initially launched their venture with weekend specials for subscribers out of a commissary kitchen in Atco in 2016 before landing in their current Voorhees restaurant space in late 2020. They opened a larger sibling restaurant by the same name with a bar in bustling Iselin, in North Jersey, in 2023. After closing their Voorhees location for year-long renovations and an expansion, they reopened this BYOB earlier this year with 80 seats.

The restaurant was fairly quiet during most of my visits, except during a special-event weekend buffet when both sides of the dining room were bursting with families. Regular Friday night karaoke sessions, when the crowd favors boisterous Bollywood tunes on the open mic, are also lively.

For maximum audience appeal, their menu also includes solid renditions of familiar dishes from other parts of India, including samosas (albeit spiced to their regional style with whole coriander seeds), chili-garlic chicken momo dumplings, creamy dal makhani, and tender lamb chops spiced with vivid red kashmiri chilies that arrive at the table in full sizzle on a cast-iron skillet.

You can skip the chicken tandoori quesadillas, a fusion dish created for the restaurant’s younger customers that isn’t worth it (unless you order it pressed between Indian chapati rather than the default flour tortillas). There are so many other more interesting dishes to consider instead, including a creamy methi curry flavored with fenugreek and filled with meaty, tender cashews.

Sagdeo’s family also has roots in the Southern coastal state of Goa, and I enjoyed several dishes typical of that region, including a pair of silver pomfret fish imported from India that were pan-fried whole in a zesty semolina crust. A vibrant green sauce called cafreal made from cilantro, mint, and chilies was fantastic with cubes of paneer cheese.

There were also several other Central Indian curries we enjoyed, including a deep red chili-based kolhapuri that we savored with vegetables. A creamy Malwani coconut curry from the Konkan coast of Maharashtra is tanged with the sour kokum fruit and is perfect with either chicken or fish. Patodi rassa, a Maharashtrian fritter made with chickpea flour, offered a satisfying vegetarian alternative to bask in that rich Saoji curry.

Misal pav was another Maharashtrian specialty I couldn’t get enough of, a brothy, well-spiced bowl of tomato-y curry steeped with bay leaves, coriander and three kinds of sprouted beans. Once you mix in the side dishes — crunchy farsan snacks, chopped red onions, and filament-thin strands of snappy chickpea pastry called sev — the broth thickened enough that it worked like a dip for the pillowy soft pav dinner rolls on the side.

With such boldly flavored dishes, sweets are an essential finale to the meal, and Nagpuri Saoji delivers them with the dramatic fanfare of dry-ice smoke, whether it’s a classic gulab jamun dusted with crushed pistachios, housemade mango kulfi ice cream, or, my favorite, cardamom-flavored shrikhand (hung yogurt) turned golden with saffron, which can also be served with puffed poori bhaji flatbreads on the side.

“It’s a dessert typically made for holidays, but nostalgic for people living here,” said Sagdeo. “Because it reminds you of family.”

VOORHEES, NJ — The plan for a new Wawa along Route 73 is set to be heard at the Voorhees Township Planning Board meeting on Oct. 14.

The hearing follows a lawsuit, years-long debates, and approvals in other towns.

The new store would be right at the border of both Voorhees and Berlin townships at the intersection of Route 73 and Cooper Road.

Along with installing gas stations, plans for the new "super" Wawa include the left-turn stacking lane on Cooper Road extended to ease traffic, new landscaping while preserving existing trees, and stormwater upgrades that improve runoff quality and enhance groundwater recharge.

Mayor Rick Miller of Berlin Township called the project "a significant visual improvement of the existing conditions."

After already denying the plans due to concerns surrounding noise and traffic, Voorhees officials were met with a lawsuit from the developer.

By extending the actions, the Berlin Township Planning Board was able to approve the plan on Aug. 18, paving the way for this new chance for Voorhees to give its approval.

Construction cannot move forward without both approvals.

"Welcome to the Berlin Township business family, Wawa," Miller said later that night. "We're looking forward to seeing this project move forward and the positive impact it will have for our residents."
