From the widening of East Poplar Avenue to improvements along Shelby Drive, some major road construction projects are underway in Collierville.
And more are in the works for 2026 and beyond, from paving to widening to bridge replacements.
Here is a look at the major projects — both ongoing and future — to keep an eye on in Collierville.
Road construction projects underway in Collierville
Tennessee 57 (East Poplar Avenue) Improvements
Construction work on Tennessee 57 between Eastley Street and Tennessee 385 (I-269) is underway. The project will widen Tennessee 57 (East Poplar Avenue) from two lanes to five lanes for approximately one mile from Eastley Street/Collierville-Arlington Road to Tennessee 385 in Collierville. The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is managing the project, which is expected to be completed in the summer or fall of 2026.
Shelby Drive Improvement Project from Sycamore Road to U.S. 72
The initial work focused on erosion control measures and site preparation on the south side of the roadway began on May 19. Construction began May 27, with an estimated two-year timeline for completion. The $14 million project will be handled by local construction contractor Madden-Phillips Construction. The Shelby Drive project is designed to widen the existing two-lane rural roadway into a four-lane median-divided roadway.
The upgrade is expected to include features such as curb and gutter, sidewalks, bike lanes, street lighting, and improvements to water and sewer systems. The project will also include the replacement of two bridges and a major drainage culvert, as well as the replacement of the existing span wire traffic signal at U.S> 72 with mast arms.
The construction is expected to be done in two main phases to reduce disruption. Phase 1 will allow two-way traffic to continue on the existing lanes while the south half of the road is being built. The south half will be the future eastbound lanes. During Phase 2, two-way traffic will be shifted to the new lanes, allowing for the demolition of the existing road and construction of the north side.
The project aims to allow TDOT to improve traffic flow and roadway safety between Sycamore Road and U.S. 72.
Shelby Drive will be closed to thru traffic from the eastern Collierville High School driveway to Quinn Road. Westbound traffic on Shelby Drive will be able to turn left onto Quinn Road.
The closure will remain in place through Aug. 1 to allow for installation of a new sewer line, approximately 30 feet deep in areas, which cannot be completed safely with present thru traffic. The Town of Collierville is managing the project.
“The closure is timed to avoid impacting the school year and will allow critical infrastructure work to be completed before fall,” said Tim Gwaltney, Collierville’s deputy town engineer.
Road construction projects planned in Collierville
Town officials noted that this fairly large mill and overlay project should be ready to bid in July and go to construction by October. The project will involve repaving the following street segments:
Shelby Drive widening from Jasper Park to Shelby Post
The project would widen Shelby Drive from an existing two-lane rural road to a six-lane divided roadway. The project is nearing the end of the design phase and about to enter the right-of-way acquisition phase, according to Town of Collierville officials. Construction is anticipated to begin in late 2026 or early 2027.
Shelton Road bridge replacement over Wolf River Lateral J (just east of Peterson Lake)
The project is nearing the end of the design phase and about to enter the right-of-way acquisition phase. The project involves bridge replacement, widening the south side of Shelton from Peterson Lake to Yorktown Road and a complete overlay of Shelton from Peterson Lake to Yorktown. Construction is anticipated to begin in late 2026 or early 2027.
Collierville-Arlington Road bridge over Wolf River
The Tennessee Department of Transportation is planning to replace this bridge in late 2026 or early 2027. According to the Town of Collierville, the project is 100% managed by TDOT and dependent on available funding.
