What is Non-Medical Senior Care in North Wales, PA?

lm-check

Home is where the heart is. While that saying can sound a tad cliche, it is especially true for many seniors living in America. When given a choice, older adults most often prefer to grow older at home. An AARP study found that three out of four adults over the age of 50 want to stay in their homes and communities as they age.

lm-check

When you begin to think about why, it makes sense. Home offers a sense of security, comfort, and familiarity.

lm-check

The truth is, as we age, we begin to rely on others for help. When a family is too busy or lives too far away to fulfill this role, in-home senior care is often the best solution. Home care services allow seniors to enjoy personal independence while also receiving trustworthy assistance from a trained caregiver.

lm-check

At Always Best Care, we offer a comprehensive range of home care services to help seniors stay healthy while they get the help they need to remain independent. As your senior loved one gets older, giving them the gift of senior care is one of the best ways to show your love, even if you live far away.

Respite Care

Respite Care Services

According to AARP, more than 53 million adults living in the U.S. provide care to someone over 50 years old. Unfortunately, these caregivers experience stress, exhaustion, and even depression. Our respite care services help family caregivers address urgent obligations, spend time with their children, and enjoy nearby activities. Perhaps more importantly, respite care gives family members time to recharge and regroup. Taking personal time to de-stress reduces the risk of caregiver burnout. Doing so is great for both you and your loved one.

At the end of the day, our goal is to become a valuable part of your senior's daily routine. That way, we may help give them the highest quality of life possible. We know that staying at home is important for your loved one, and we are here to help make sure that is possible.

If you have been on the fence about non-medical home care, there has never been a better time than now to give your senior the care, assistance, and companionship they deserve.

Aging in Place: The Preferred Choice for Most Seniors

While it's true that some seniors have complicated medical needs that prevent them from staying at home, aging in place is often the best arrangement for seniors and their families. With a trusted caregiver, seniors have the opportunity to live with a sense of dignity and do so as they see fit - something that is unavailable to many older people today.

In-home care makes it possible for millions of seniors to age in place every year. Rather than moving to a strange nursing home, seniors have the chance to stay at home where they feel the happiest and most comfortable.

Here are just a few of the reasons why older men and women prefer to age at home:

How much does a senior's home truly mean to them?

A study published by the American Society on Aging found that more than half of seniors say their home's emotional value means more than how much their home is worth in monetary value. It stands to reason, then, that a senior's home is where they want to grow old.

With the help of elderly care in North Wales, PA, seniors don't have to age in a sterilized care facility. Instead, they can age gracefully in the place they want to be most: their home. In contrast, seniors who move to a long-term care facility must adapt to new environments, new people, and new systems that the facility implements. At this stage in life, this kind of drastic change can be more harmful than helpful.

Institutional care facilities like nursing homes often put large groups of people together to live in one location. On any given day, dozens of staff members and caregivers run in and out of these facilities. Being around so many new people in a relatively small living environment can be dangerous for a seniors' health and wellbeing. When you consider that thousands of seniors passed away in nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic, opting for in-home care is often a safer, healthier choice for seniors.

Aging in place has been shown to improve seniors' quality of life, which helps boost physical health and also helps insulate them from viral and bacterial risks found in elderly living facilities.

For many seniors, the ability to live independently with assistance from a caregiver is a priceless option. With in-home care, seniors experience a higher level of independence and freedom - much more so than in other settings like a nursing home. When a senior has the chance to age in place, they get to live life on their own terms, inside the house that they helped make into a home. More independence means more control over their personal lives, too, which leads to increased levels of fulfillment, happiness, and personal gratification. Over time, these positive feelings can manifest into a healthier, longer life.

More independence, a healthier life, and increased comfort are only a few benefits of aging in place. You have to take into consideration the role of cost and convenience. Simply put, it's usually easier and more affordable to help seniors age in place than it is to move them into an institutional care facility. According to the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, seniors who age in the comfort of their homes can save thousands of dollars per month.

In-home care services from Always Best Care, for instance, are often less expensive than long-term solutions, which can cost upwards of six figures per year. To make matters worse, many residential care facilities are reluctant to accept long-term care insurance and other types of payment assistance.

With Always Best Care's home care services, seniors and their families have a greater level of control over their care plans. In-home care gives seniors the chance to form a bond with a trusted caregiver and also receive unmatched care that is catered to their needs. In long-term care facilities, seniors and their loved ones have much less control over their care plan and have less of a say in who provides their care.

Affordable Care

In-home care is a valuable resource that empowers seniors to age in place on their own terms. However, a big concern for many families and their loved ones is how much in-home care costs. If you're worried that in-home care is too expensive, you may be pleasantly surprised to learn that it is one of the most affordable senior care arrangements available.

Typically, hiring an Always Best Care in-home caregiver for a few hours a week is more affordable than sending your loved one to a long-term care facility. This is true even for seniors with more complex care needs.

At Always Best Care, we will work closely with you and your family to develop a Care Plan that not only meets your care needs, but your budget requirements, too. Once we discover the level of care that you or your senior need, we develop an in-home care plan that you can afford.

In addition to our flexible care options, families should also consider the following resources to help offset potential home care costs:

If your loved one qualifies, Medicaid may help reduce in-home care costs. Review your PA's Medicaid program laws and benefits, and make sure your senior's financial and medical needs meet Medicaid eligibility requirements.
Attendance and aid benefits through military service can cover a portion of the costs associated with in-home care for veterans and their spouses.
Many senior care services like in-home care are included in long-term care insurance options. Research different long-term care solutions to find a plan that provides coverage for senior care.
Home care can be included as part of a senior's private insurance plan. Read over your loved one's insurance policy carefully or speak with their insurance provider to determine if in-home care is covered.
Depending on the life insurance plan, you may be able to apply your policy toward long-term care. You may be able to use long-term-care coverage to help pay for in-home elderly care.

Compassionate Care. Trusted Caregivers.

When you or your senior loved one needs assistance managing daily tasks at home, finding a qualified caregiver can be challenging. It takes a special kind of person to provide reliable care for your senior loved one. However, a caregiver's role involves more than meal preparation and medication reminders. Many seniors rely on their caregivers for companionship, too.

Our companion care services give seniors the chance to socialize in a safe environment and engage in activities at home. These important efforts boost morale and provide much-needed relief from repetitive daily routines. A one-on-one, engaging conversation can sharpen seniors' minds and give them something in which to be excited.

At Always Best Care, we only hire care providers that we would trust to care for our own loved ones. Our senior caregivers in North Wales, PA understand how important it is to listen and communicate with their seniors. A seemingly small interaction, like a short hug goodbye, can make a major difference in a senior's day. Instead of battling against feelings of isolation, seniors begin to look forward to seeing their caregiver each week.

Understanding the nuances of senior care is just one of the reasons why our care providers are so great at their job.

Unlike some senior care companies, our caregivers must undergo extensive training before they work for Always Best Care. In addition, our caregivers receive ongoing training throughout the year. This training ensures that their standard of care matches up to the high standards we've come to expect. During this training, they will brush up on their communication skills, safety awareness, and symptom spotting. That way, your loved one receives the highest level of non-medical home care from day one.

Assisted Living Referral Services

While it's true that many seniors prefer to age at home, sometimes in-home care isn't the best fit. For those seniors and their families, choosing an assisted living facility makes more sense. Unfortunately, finding the optimal care facility is easier said than done in today's day and age. That's when Always Best Care's assisted living referral services begin to make a lot of sense.

Assisted living is a form of housing intended for seniors who require varying degrees of medical and personal attention. Accommodations may include single rooms, apartments, or shared living arrangements. Assisted living communities are typically designed to resemble a home-like environment and are physically constructed to encourage the independence of residents.

Respite Care North Wales, PA

At assisted living communities, seniors receive help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, and eating. They may also benefit from coordination of services with outside healthcare providers, and monitoring of resident activities to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Caregivers who work at assisted living communities can also provide medication administration and personal care services for older adults.

Other services offered within assisted living communities can include some or all of the following:

  • Housekeeping
  • Laundry
  • Recreational Activities
  • Social Outings
  • Emergency Medical Response
  • Medication Monitoring
  • Family Visitation
  • Personal Care

NORTH WALES, Pa., (CBS) -- A North Wales boy is raising money through his Italian soda stand to visit his homeland of Ethiopia in September.

"It's just so delicious. I don't know how else to describe it," said Josh Yoder of Hatfield.

"Super refreshing. Something different. It keeps people coming back," said his wife Megan as they both stood with a sweet cold treat in their hands on a hot day.

Their drinks were served up by 10-year-old Biruk Sawtelle at Biruk's Italian Soda Stand. A simple recipe done right.

"Club soda, and then you put like three pumps of any flavor. And then sometimes if people want it, you can add cream and whipped cream," he said.

This young entrepreneur was adopted from Ethiopia by American parents who were determined he knows where he came from.

"Just to continue that identity he has with his home country," said his father Nathan Sawtelle, "With Ethiopia, and his orphanage, and the care that he received there."

Nathan said he used every opportunity to teach Biruk about his homeland.

"In fact, he just lost another tooth, and the tooth fairy always brings him a coin from Ethiopia," Nathan Sawtelle said.

After raising about $100 to visit Hersheypark this spring, Biruk's mother, Andrea, asked if he wanted to visit Ethiopia.

"I was like, 'Well, your plane ticket is going be like $1,200.' He was like, 'I made this much in one day. I think I can do that mom. I would like to go for that,'" his mother said.

At $2 a piece, friends and neighbors have purchased $300 in Italian sodas so far.

"I just think it is so cool that we are able to help out Biruk in more than just buying an Italian soda from him," Josh Yoder said. "And just using it on something that any other kid would use like a toy or something like that."

"So, the fact that he wants to do that on his own just is a testament to his heart, right? He has a heart of gold, so we love supporting that," Megan said.

The Sawtelles said they must let Biruk and his little sister from India know everything they can about their heritage.

"You have this identity of where you're from as part of the story," Nathan said. "That maybe you can tell your children one day or you can tell other people."

Biruk's Italian Soda will be open from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 24 through Wednesday, July 26 and Monday, July 31 and Wednesday August 2.

You can find the stand at 301 S. 8th St., North Wales, PA, 19454. You can also find the schedule on Facebook

From Philly and the Pa. suburbs to South Jersey and Delaware, what would you like WHYY News to cover? Let us know!

Motivated by the love and encouragement from her Grandma Gray, 11-year-old Taelyn Gray chose to take her love for tennis and fashion and merge them into a business that lets her stand out and make the sport she loves a more enjoyable experience.

With her brand LOVE U BUNCHES (LUB), Taelyn brings affordable and comfortable tennis wear to her tennis peers.

Taelyn started playing tennis at 5 — inspired by legend Serena Williams — and fell in love after her first racket swing. She attended her first US Open in 2023, and got a chance to see the pros she looks to one day emulate.

“I think the sky is the limit for Tae. I’m really proud of her,” said Frank Green, Taelyn’s tennis coach, who sees nothing but endless potential in the young tennis player. “It’s really special to see someone at such a young age find a way to channel their creative energy in a positive way, into two things that she loves, which is tennis and fashion.”

LOVE U BUNCHES, defined as a premier junior girls’ tennis apparel brand dedicated to providing affordable, high-quality tennis practice clothing. The brand says it’s committed to inclusivity and aims to inspire girls to achieve greatness through passion, confidence, growth, and power.

“At first I didn’t think she was being for real,” said Melanie Gray, Taelyn’s mother, recognizing that Tae was truly passionate about this project dedicated to her grandmother and her favorite saying, ‘Love You Bunches’. “Once she showed me the drawings, I thought, ‘Wow, she’s serious.’ So then I decided to go ahead and help her make her dream come true.”

“Every color means something different,” said Taelyn as she describes the meaning behind some of the colors that the attire comes in. “The red rush means ‘passion’, the yellow yolk is ‘confidence’, the green glide is ‘growth’, and the black blaze is ‘inner power.’ “All those things you can use in your normal, everyday life and I wanted to share that with the rest of the world.”

In addition to being a business owner and athlete, the young scholar is also an author. Taelyn’s first book, “Grandma’s Nuggets,” tells the story of a young tennis player named Tia, who struggles with self-esteem, but has her passion reignited after encouragement from her grandmother.

WARMINSTER, PA — A recent chemical spill in Lower Bucks County has not affected water quality for customers in Warminster with service from the North Wales Water Authority, said officials.

The latex spill into the Delaware River prompted officials in Bucks County and Philadelphia to send alerts recommending that certain residents only use bottled water for drinking and cooking. Click here for updates from the county, which says there are "currently no known adverse impacts to drinking water in Bucks County."

The North Wales Water Authority said its water supply is not affected by the spill, which happened at Trinseo Altuglas chemical facility in Bristol Twp, officials said.

"All retail service water customers served directly by the North Wales Water Authority, as well as all bulk customers receiving water from the NWWA and our Forest Park Treatment plant in Chalfont may rest assured that the recent split in the Bristol area of Lower Bucks County does NOT IMPACT the NWWA water supply in any manner," said the water authority.

"This notice includes our bulk water customers including the Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority, Horsham, Warwick, and Warminster Townships, none of which are impacted by the downstream contamination," said the North Wales Water Authority Water Supply on Monday.

The water supply explained that its water intake point at Point Pleasant is more than 35 miles upstream from the recent contamination location, "making it impossible for the contamination from the Bristol area in Lower Bucks County to reach and impact our water supplies."

The "latex emulsion product" was released from an Altuglas manufacturing facility Friday, shortly before midnight, into Otter Creek in Bristol due to an apparent equipment failure, according to its parent company, Trinseo PLC.

Residents in Bristol Borough, Bristol Twp., and Bensalem Township with questions should call their water provider.

Trinseo estimated 8,100 gallons of the solution — about 50 percent water and the remainder latex polymer — was spilled.

The latex emulsion is a white liquid used in various consumer goods, the company said. Altuglas and regulatory agencies were testing water samples in the surrounding area to confirm the material was not a threat to people or wildlife.

“We are conducting a thorough assessment of all of our systems and processes to identify and address potential vulnerabilities and will take the steps necessary to close any gaps,” Trinseo CEO Frank Bozich said in a news release Sunday. “The release of material has been stopped and our efforts are now focused on testing the local waterways.”

The Bristol facility manufactures acrylic resins for Trinseo’s Engineered Materials business. The plant employs about 110 people.

The incident is being investigated by the U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The Coast Guard advised residents to stay away from the area during the cleanup.

Sunak touts gigabit broadband rollout on ‘levelling up tour’ of North Wales

New data shows 1,006,800 homes, businesses and public buildings now have high-speed internet access, according to the Government.

Rishi Sunak is heading to North Wales on Thursday where he said his Government was “breathing new life into communities” through levelling up, as it was announced that one million UK properties had been connected to high-speed broadband.

The Prime Minister will meet engineers in Anglesey working to roll out faster internet, as well as businesses and communities during his two-day tour of the region.

New data shows 1,006,800 homes, businesses and public buildings can now access gigabit broadband under the £5 billion Project Gigabit, according to the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT).

The programme to improve digital inclusion in hard-to-reach parts of the UK began in 2012.

Most of the now-upgraded premises are in rural areas that have been too difficult or expensive for broadband suppliers to include in their commercial rollout.

The department said around 80% of the UK was now covered by speedy broadband and 85% coverage would be reached by 2025.

But the 2019 Tory manifesto said “we intend to bring full-fibre and gigabit-capable broadband to every home and business across the UK” by that date.

Growth in coverage in Wales over the past year has been among the fastest in the UK, the Government said, with nearly 70% of Welsh premises accessing a gigabit-capable connection.

Mr Sunak said: “Levelling up is about providing people with better opportunities to work, travel and feel proud of where they live.

“Upgrading one million premises with high-speed gigabit broadband is part of our long-term plan to deliver a brighter future by connecting people, businesses and regions across the entire United Kingdom.

“We’re breathing new life into communities across North Wales through greater connectivity, a brand new freeport, more cash for high streets and a £1 billion investment into North Wales rail.”

The Prime Minister visited the new Anglesey freeport last year, which he said would attract over a billion in investment and create thousands of jobs.

The electrification of the North Wales Main Line is being funded with £1 billion, while £20 million from the latest round of the levelling up fund will go towards regenerating town centres and developing areas in Denbighshire in north-east Wales.

Mr Sunak’s visit to the region is part of what Downing Street has dubbed a “levelling-up tour” as he seeks to underscore his commitment to the flagship policy to reduce regional inequalities – a key plank of the Tory party’s 2019 winning election campaign.

It comes after two influential think tanks last autumn questioned his Government’s efforts to reduce disparities across the country.

The Institute for Government said the machinery of central Government was not set up to deliver the promise of levelling up, while the Resolution Foundation said there was a lack of “seriousness” about the scale of the challenge.

As he gears up for the general election and his party languishes in the polls, Mr Sunak frequently attacks the performance of what he calls “Labour-run Wales”.

On Wednesday, he warned that the Welsh Government’s new farm subsidy scheme would “decimate farming communities” there.

Labour has long led the devolved government in the nation of three million people.

Labour’s shadow Welsh secretary Jo Stevens said: “Rishi Sunak will arrive in Anglesey to find that 14 years of Conservative government has delivered one of the worst coverage levels for gigabit internet, and speeds almost half the UK average.

“Wales continues to be an afterthought for the Conservatives. Only Labour will govern in the interest of the whole United Kingdom.”

A Perkiomenville non-profit no-kill cat rescue and surrender is bringing new life back to the old North Wales Pharmacy location in North Wales Borough as a thrift shop and adoption center.

Feline Frenzy Cat Rescue will hold a grand opening for its Feline Frenzy Thrift Shop & Adopt on April 1 at 107 South Main Street. All proceeds from the thrift shop will go to the rescue.

Anyone who comes out to the grand opening will be entered to win a Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia night out package valued at $409, which includes overnight accommodations at the hotel in a deluxe king room and a $100 property dining credit.

The rescue is now accepting donations of unwanted clothes, knick-knacks, household items, jewelry, kitchen items, furniture and more, according to its Facebook page. Donations can be scheduled for drop off by emailing [email protected]. The same email can be used to reach out for sponsoring a kitten.

According to its Facebook post, customers can peruse gently-used items while drinking complimentary coffee and petting all the cats.

At present, Feline Frenzy Cat Rescue is looking for volunteers to help at the new location by watching over the cat area to ensure kittens are happy and being treated properly. A volunteer application is available through the website.

According to their website, Feline Frenzy Cat Rescue is a no-kill shelter for kittens and cats that have been rescued or surrendered. The felines live cage-free at the adoption center on Cepp Road in Perkiomenville and provide for homeless kittens and cats until they find a “furever” home.

Feline Frenzy also accepts donations of cat supplies, including dry and wet food, new or used toys, litter boxes, pet carriers, litter, cat beds, scratching posts, and cleaning supplies.

Contact Feline Frenzy at 267-797-2045 or via email.
