A video shared on X (formerly Twitter) shows the train has burst into flames, and huge clouds of black smoke can be visible from certain kilometres. Firefighters and passengers were seen nearby it as chaos in the area after the evacuation of 350 passengers.
The blaze was reported underneath a Wilmington/Newark Line train near the station. The six-car train carried approximately 350 passengers from Philadelphia to Wilmington. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Due to the incident, several trains were delayed from Amtrak to Wilmington, Delaware, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A passenger from the SEPTA train described the incident, saying everything was going normal when the train left Philadelphia. After a few minutes, a strange smell came from somewhere between Ridley Park and Norwood in the car coach she was riding in.

PENNSYLVANIA (WABC) -- Amtrak service along the Northeast Corridor was impacted after a SEPTA train traveling from Philadelphia to Wilmington went up in flames Thursday night.
It happened around 6 p.m. near the Crum Lynne Station in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania.
The six-car train was carrying roughly 350 people when it caught fire. An image shared with our sister station, Action News in Philadelphia, showed smoke billowing out of the windows.
According to SEPTA spokesperson Andrew Busch, as the train was being evacuated it was learned the first car was catching fire.
"Very quick action by our crews that that helped allow this to be a safe outcome," Busch said. "We don't know where this started, just that it was in the area underneath the train and then obviously engulfed the train in flames."
Passengers said smoke was reported several minutes after leaving Philadelphia.
Service to Wilmington has been halted at this time.
Amtrak says service between Philadelphia and Wilmington has resumed after experiencing delays due to the fire, but residual delays were expected due to rail congestion.
Travel Resumption: The Fire Dept has released the hold on the tracks. All services operating between Philadelphia (PHL) and Wilmington (WIL) have resumed travel. Residual delays may occur due to rail congestion.

The passengers evacuated the train safely after it caught fire in Pennsylvania.

It happened around 6 p.m. near the Crum Lynne Station in Ridley Park, Pennsylvania.

Passengers said smoke was reported several minutes after leaving Philadelphia.
"I could smell a weird smokey, sulfury smell," recalled Cynthia Kayati, of Smyrna, Delaware. "I thought it was the train, normal stuff, but it was getting really strong especially as we got to Crum Lynne."
"I started to smell it too after a little while. I think we got two stations down from here and then people were really starting to notice it, starting to panic a little bit," added Alvan Hurley, of Newark.

Passengers are grateful workers acted quickly to get everyone out of harm's way.
"I think they do an amazing job of making sure we're good," said Kayati.
Service was halted for several hours before it resumed just after 11 p.m.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Over 325 passengers safely evacuated the SEPTA regional rail train that burst into flames at the height of the Thursday evening commute in Ridley Park.
SEPTA spokesperson Andrew Busch said the cause is under investigation but does not appear suspicious.
“It appeared to come from under the train but investigators don’t know what started it,” he said. “We have the train at rail yard. We will certainly want to know more about what caused this.”
One car, a fourth generation Silverliner was destroyed in the fire.
Busch said that era electric motor car was built approximately 1973-75 and is considered very reliable, with those cars making up two-thirds of SEPTA’s regional rail fleet.
Busch said the images of the burning train are scary but passengers were evacuated before the flames engulfed the car.
It was about 6 p.m. when the six-car Wilmington-Newark-bound train stopped a couple a hundred feet south of the Crum Lynne station as the train filled with smoke.
The two conductors and one engineer on the train safely evacuated the passengers, Busch said.
Busch said after the evacuation flames could be seen and fire crews moved passengers away, cutting a hole in the chain-link fence for them to get away.
Passengers on that train and one train behind were taken onto shuttle buses to complete their trip.
As it was being towed to the railyard about midnight, it briefly reignited in Prospect Park.
One car was destroyed. There was no indication of flame damage to the others cars but they are being looked at.
“The bright spot in this was the quick and calm response of the crews and passengers,” Busch said. “They orderly got people off the train, cut a hole in chain link fence to get passengers off the track. Escorting over 300 people. The ground was wet and it’s tricky getting down. They acted quickly and calmly.”
The train line resumed Friday after maintenance crews inspected track and mechanisms.
About 8 p.m. Thursday, a second train became disabled in the area of the same station, and cars holding 63 passengers were evacuated by the crews still onsite from the earlier incident, according Delaware County fire radio traffic.
