We have a brother and his significant other who were living independently and when visiting them realized they had not been eating or keeping their home clean. Since we knew of Always Best Care and heard of their excellent reputation we contacted them. They immediately stepped in and assisted us in knowing what steps we needed to take. After taking both our brother and his significant other to the doctors and learning that they had the beginnings of Alzheimer’s disease, we met with Carmen who helped us set up a plan. They were very reactive; I called them, and the next day, they were at the house doing the assessment to see what was exactly needed. PRINCETON, NJ – A Princeton resident’s cat recently had a run-in with a garter snake.
Animal Control Officer Jim Ferry responded to a home and rescued the snake. While the cat was unharmed, the snake suffered some minor injuries and was taken to a wildlife center for evaluation.
As spring temperatures rise, garter snakes will become more active—and more visible around Princeton, ACO Ferry said.
“They're a super important part of our ecosystem, both for what they eat, which is bugs and rodents and things like that, but they're also an amazing food source for a lot of the raptors in New Jersey,” ferry said.
The garter snake is most common in New Jersey and comes in a couple of different color variations.
They are non-venomous and are identified by their checkered pattern and stripes.
Ferry told residents that the garter snakes are harmless and will not attack unless threatened.
“They are cold-blooded creatures. So when they start to emerge in the spring, they will seek sunlight, dark surfaces, such as roadways, walkways, things like that, because their blood has to heat up for them to metabolize and start getting their energy to where they can move a lot more quickly,” Ferry said.
Calling the garter snake a "pretty cool animal,” The ACO said they are “worth keeping around.”
Those who want to prevent snakes on their property can make sure there are no debris piles, such as wood piles, because they can take shelter underneath those and then come out in the sunlight.

PRINCETON — The search for a missing Princeton University student ended tragically with the discovery of his body Friday morning.
Lauren Blackburn, a member of the Class of 2026, was last seen entering Firestone Library early Saturday evening, according to undergraduate student dean Regan Crotty.
Blackburn's body was found in Lake Carnegie on Friday morning.
"Our hearts are heavy and we share our deepest condolences with Lauren’s family and friends," Crotty said in a statement. "It is during these difficult times that we must draw strength and support from one another and from those in our community who are available to us for counsel and care."
Crotty did not disclose details about the death.
Harrison Street, which runs between Route 1 onto the Princeton campus and crosses Lake Carnegie, was closed for several hours Friday morning.
A search was started at the lake early Tuesday morning after Blackburn's cell phone began pinging from there, according to 6 ABC Action News.
According to People magazine, Blackburn is from Corydon, Indiana, and was attending Princeton on a local scholarship that covered his tuition and expenses.

An increased law enforcement presence remains on Princeton University’s campus as the search for an undergraduate student who hasn’t been seen in nearly a week continues.
According to Princeton University’s Department of Public Safety, no one has spoken to or seen Lauren Blackburn, 23, since around 6 p.m. ET on April 19 in the vicinity of Firestone Library on the Ivy League campus. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing blue jeans with torn knees, a yellow t-shirt with a black zippered hooded sweatshirt and blue flat-bottom shoes.
Blackburn is 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs 170 pounds, the department said, adding that he also has brown eyes and black hair.
Authorities are focusing their search on Carnegie Lake, a reservoir close to Princeton’s campus, News 12 New Jersey and WPVI-TV reported. Blackburn’s cellphone was traced near the lake, according to the outlets.
The school’s Department of Public Safety shared social media updates on the search on April 23 and April 24, with both mainly asking for the public’s help in searching for Blackburn.
Blackburn is an Indiana native and former staff writer for Princeton University’s student-run daily newspaper, The Daily Princetonian, Fox News and News 12 New Jersey reported.
Before attending Princeton, Blackburn was a standout high school student chosen as one of 2,500 students for the National Merit Scholarship in 2019, according to WAVE.
“He can read a book and know everything in it,” Kate Robinson, an English teacher at Corydon Central High School, where Blackurn attended, told the outlet at the time. “I’m pretty sure he has a photographic memory.”
Following Blackburn’s disappearance, Vice President for Student Life W. Rochelle Calhoun wrote an email to Princeton undergraduate students, per The Daily Princetonian.
“I will share an update when we know more, but in the meantime, please hold Lauren in your thoughts as we attempt to locate him,” Calhoun wrote.

I have a feeling as soon as I can get my hands on this new bagel in Princeton, that everyone in the area is buzzing about, I'm going to have a new favorite to add to my list.

My first thought was use it as a cheeseburger bun.
You'd eat a pickle with a burger, or put pickles on your burger, so this is a great idea.
